RESPONSE TO THIRD PARTY GEOTECHNICAL REVIEW, PROPOSED RESIDENTIAL
DEVELOPMENT, SOUTHWEST CORNER OF PARK DRIVE AND HILLSIDE DRIVE,
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA (APN 156-160-15)
The following comments are in response to a third-party geotechnical review of reports
issued by this office in support of a proposed residential development at the referenced
property conducted by Hetherington Engineering, Inc. dated April 7, 2021. A copy of the
Heatherington Engineering, Inc. review letter is enclosed herein as Attachment A. Our
responses are provided in the same order as listed by the reviewer:
1. Site grading and earthwork construction will not impact the adjacent properties and
public right-of-way provided our recommendations are incorporated into the final
designs and implemented during the construction phase.
2. The direct shear used was in conformance with ASTM D3080.
3. Recommended remedial grading should encompass all areas planned for new fills,
structures and improvements.

analyses and/or response by the Geotcchnical Consultant.
REVIEW OF GEOTECHNICAL REPORT
1. The Consultant should provide a statement regarding the impact of the proposed·
grading and construction on adjacent properties and improvements.
2. The Consultant should provide the ASTM standard used for the direct shear
laboratory testing.

3. The Consultant should clmify if the remedial gradjng recommendations should
include all areas of proposed fill or are limited to 5-feet beyond the building and
improv~ment envelope.
