GRADING RESULTING IN THE PONDING OF WATER IS NOT PERMITTED. ALL EARTHEN SWALES AND DITCHES SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM ONE PERCENT SLOPE. 25. THESE PLANS ARE SUBJECT TO A SIGNED AND APPROVED SET OF EROSION CONTROL PLANS. EROSION CONTROL SHALL BE AS SHOWN AND AS APPROVED BY THE CITY ENGINEER OR AS DIRECTED BY THE PROJECT INSPECTOR. 26. ALL SLOPES SHALL BE TRIMMED TO A FINISH GRADE TO PRODUCE A UNIFORM SURFACE AND CROSS SECTION. THE SITE SHALL BE LEFT IN A NEAT AND ORDERLY CONDITION. ALL STONES, ROOTS OR OTHER DEBRIS SHALL BE REMOVED AND DISPOSED OF AT A SITE APPROVED OF BY THE CITY ENGINEER. 27. ALL SLOPES SHALL BE IRRIGATED, STABILIZED, PLANTED AND/OR HYDRDSEEDED WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS OF THE TIME WHEN EACH SLOPE IS BROUGHT TO GRADE AS SHOWN ON THE APPROVED GRADING PLANS. 28. LANDSCAPING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED ON ALL DISTURBED SLOPES AS REQUIRED BY THE CITY OF CARLSBAD LANDSCAPE MANUAL, THE LANDSCAPING PLANS FOR THIS PROJECT, DRAWING NO. SECTION 2: MATERIALS 2.01 Definitions: A. Structural Geogrid-a structural geogrid formed by a regular network of integrally connected tensile elements with apertures of sufficient size to allow interlocking with surrounding soil, rock, or earth and function primarily os reinforcement. B. Segmental Concrete Facing Units-a Keystone segmental concrete facing unit, machine mode from Portland cement, water and mineral aggregates. C. Cap Unit-a Keystone segmental concrete cap unit. D. Unit Fill-granular fill which is within the segmental concrete facing units. E. Reinforced Backfill-compacted soil, which is within the reinforced soil volume as outlined on the plans. F. Foundation Soil-compacted or in-situ soil beneath the entire wall. G. Leveling Pad-a level compacted grovel footing upon which the first course of segmental concrete facing units are placed. 2.02 Base Leveling Pad Material and Unit Fill for Block: A. Base Leveling Pad Material: Material for leveling pads shall consist of compacted sand, grovel, crushed rock or any combination thereof (use USCS soil types GP, GW, SW, SP or SM), a minimum of 6 inches in thickness, constructed to the minimum dimensions shown on the construction drawings. non-reinforced concrete may be used as an alternate. B. Contractor shall prevent excessive mud, wet cement, epoxy, and like material which may affix themselves to the grid work, from coming in contact with the geogrid material. 4. Rolled geogrid material may be laid flat or stood on end for storage. 5. Geogrlds shall be stored according to manufacturer's recommendations. B. Segmental Concrete Facing Units 1. Contractor shall check the units upon delivery to ensure that proper materials have been received. 2. Contractor shall prevent excessive mud, wet cement, epoxy, and like material from coming in contact with and affixing to the units. 3. Contractor shall protect the units from damage (i.e. cracks, chips, spoils). The foundation soil shall be excavated to the lines and grades as shown on the construction drawings. Overexcovoted areas shall be filled with compacted backfill material. Foundation soil shall be approved by a qualified Geotechnical Engineer prior to backfill and geogrid placement. - 3.02 Subgrade Preparation: A. Subgrade shall be excavated as required for placement of the leveling pad as shown on the construction drawings, or as directed by the Engineer. B. Subgrade shall be examined and approved by a qualified Geotechnical Engineer to confirm that the actual foundation conditions met or exceed assumed design assumptions. As a minimum, soil shall be proof-rolled before construction proceeds. Subgrade e;onditions not meeting the required strength shall be removed and replaced with acceptable material. C. Over-excavated areas shall be replaced with compacted granular backfill material or soils, approved by a qualified Geotechnical Engineer to the lines and grade shown on the construction drawings. 3.03 Base leveling Pad: A. Leveling Pod materials shall be placed as shown on the plans, upon undisturbed soils or compacted subgrade, to a minimum depth of 6 inches. B. Leveling Pad shall be prepared to insure complete contact of retaining wall units with the. base. C. Provided that compaction Is maintained, leveling pad materials may be extended linearly beyond the profiles shown on the plans to accommodate full-sized facing units. 3.04 Segmental Concrete Facing Unit Installation: A. The first course of Keystone segmental concrete facing units shall be placed on top of and in full contact with the leveling pod. The units shall be checked for proper elevation and alignment. B. Units shall be placed side by side for the full length of the wall. Proper alignment may be achieved with the aide of a string line or offset from baseline. C. Fiberglass connecting pins shall be installed and the voids in the units filled with tamped unit fill. D. Lay up each course insuring that pins protrude into adjoining courses above. Pull each unit forward, away from the embankment, against the pins in the previous course and backfill as the course is completed. Repeat procedure to the extent of wall height. 3.05 Cop Installation: A. Place Keystone Cap units over protecting pins from· units below. Pull forward to set b_ack position. Backfill and compact to finished grade. B. As required, provide permanent mechanical connection to wal_l units with construction adhesive or epoxy. Apply adhesive or epoxy to bottom surface of cop units and install on units below. 3.06 Structural Geogrid Installation: A. Geogrid shall be oriented with the highest strength axis perpendicular to the wall alignment. EROSION CONTROL NOTES 1. Rubber-tired equipment may pass over geogrid reinforcement at slow speeds, less than 10 mph. Sudden breaking and sharp turning shall be avoided. G. No changes to geogrid layout, including, but not limited to, length, geogrid type, or elevation, shall be made without the approval of the Engineer. 3.07 Reinforced Backfill Placement: A. Reinforced backfill shall be placed, spread, and compacted in such a manner that minimizes the development of slack in the geogrid. B. Reinforced bockfill shall be placed and compacted in lifts not to exceed 12 inches. C. Reinforced backfill shall be compacted to a minimum of 90 percent of the maximum density os determined by ASTM D-1557. The moisture content of the backfill material prior ta and during compaction shall be uniformly distributed throughout each layer and shall be within a range of 3% below, to 3% above optimum moisture content. D. Reinforced backfill shall be compacted in all areas to the lines and grades shown on the plans including all sloped areas above or between wall tiers. E.
