Dear Mr. Taylor: In accordance with your request, we have prepared this Final Compaction Geotechnical Report for the residential property located at 167 Cherry Ave, Carlsbad, CA 92008. We have completed geotechnical testing and observation of the sewer line trenches backfill performed at the subject property. Our testing and observation was limited to the upper two feet of backfill material. The compaction of the upper two feet of backfill for the sewer line trenches was in accordance with the grading and construction plans developed according to the City of Carlsbad requirements. The following report presents a description of the grading activities and the results of our observations and testing. We appreciate this opportunity to be of service. Should you have any questions, please call our office at (6 I 9) 258-9000. Sincerely, cc: (2) copies Bernard J. Geotechnical design criteria for this project was previously presented in the report entitled: -Geotechnical Investigation for the Subject Property Located at 167 Cherry Avenue, Carlsbad, CA 92008 dated March 22, 2017 by Applied Consultants Our scope of work is limited to the geotechnical design, observation and testing, and consulting services for the upper two feet of backfill for the sewer line trenches. The following services were performed by us during the construction of the project: • Compaction of the engineered fill was tested (100% of compaction tests) in accordance with the Sand Cone Method (ASTM D 1556). • Laboratory testing was performed throughout the project to check existing soil and imported fill conditions and strength parameters for design purposes. Tests included moisture-density relations and relative density of cohesionless soils (ASTM D 1557) . • Geotechnical consultation -geotechnical consultation, including attendance at construction meetings was provided for the duration of construction. 1.2 Project Description and Identification The sewer lines were installed at the subject property located at 167 Cherry Ave, Carlsbad, CA 92008. The submitted plans for this project are referenced by: Designed by: R. Balentine Consulting San Diego, CA 92191 P.O. Compaction testing was performed at 12" below grade to ensure compaction greater than 95% of maximum density. After compaction at 12" below finish grade was approved, imported base class 2 aggregate was compacted from 12" below finish grade up to finish grade. The local soils and approved imported base class 2 aggregate was compacted with a vibratory rammer. The backfill operations for the sewer line trenches of the subject property were completed on December 11, 2017. 1.4 Scope of Services We provided geotechnical engineering inspection services for the upper two feet of the sewer line trenches backfill. The geotechnical engineering characteristics of the local and imported soils were determined according to: • Test Method for Density and Unit Weight of Soil in Place by the Sand Cone Method - ASTM D 1556 • Test Method for Moisture-Density Relations of Soils Using a Modified Effort -ASTM D 1557 Geotechnical engineering inspections and observations were conducted by a representative from our firm. 2.0 As-Graded Conditions 2.1 Geologic Conditions The geologic condition that was encountered at the site was as anticipated in our geotechnical report for the subject property. We encountered grade a fine to medium graded, orangish brown, silty sand (SM). Imported material consisted of Base class 2 aggregate supplied by Escondido Materials. No groundwater was encountered at this site during grading operations. 2.2 Geotechnical Conditions The grading at the subject property did not require stabilization fill, buttress fill, or subsurface drainage. 167 Cheny Avenue-Final Compaction Report (Sewer line trenches) JLVG/BJL 7,'31/18 Page 4 of 5 3.0 Fill Placement and Compaction Testing During our observations we conducted in-place soil density tests and conducted geotechnical inspections for the upper two feet of the sewer line trenches backfill. Our tests for compaction of the fill materials were in accordance with ASTM guidelines. The engineered fill underwent the scrutiny of: -In-Place Density Test (Sand Cone Method) ASTM-1556 The following is a summary of our density tests: Test Elevation (ft)/ Date Relative Notes # Location Compaction S-1 1' below finish grade / 11 -Dec-l 7 <95% Fail.
