REVISED AND/OR CHANGED. SECTION 308 LANDSCAPE AND IRRIGATION INSTALLATION. 308·2 Earthwork and Topsoil Placement Trench Excavation and Backfill. ADD the !allowing: 308-2.2.1 Trenches for pipe lines and conduits shall be made of sufficient dep1hs 10 provide the minimum cover from finished grade as follows: 1 _ Pressure Lines: a Less than 3" in diame1er -18" cover b. 3" -5-1/2" in diameter -24" cover 2. Laterol Lines: 12" cover 3. Sleeves Under Roads: o. 6" or less in diometer -36" cover b. Greater 1han 6" in diameter -48" cover 4 Sleeves under Paving (non-roads): same as 1 above. 5. Direct Burial Control Wires: same as 1 above (install alongside pressure line as much as is possible). 308-2.2.2 Backfilling. Initial backfill on all lines shall have no foreign matter larger than (1 /2") in size Backfill shall be sufficiently damp to permit thorough compaction. Backfill for trenching shall be compacted to dry density equal to. 90% ~f adjacent undisturbed soil and shall conform to adJacent grades, without dips, sunken meas, humps. or other irregularities. Settling of backfilled trenches, which may occur during one year period after initial acceptance, shall be repaired by the contractor, including the complete restoration of all damaged planting, paving, or other improvements of any kind, to Owner's satisfaction at no additional expense. 308-2.3 Prepara1ion Topsoil Preparation and Conditioning: DELETE· Topsoil 3082.3.1 General: /\DD the following: Prior to plan1ing, the contractor slrnll apply Pre-Emergent, Translocative, Systemic Herbicde ("ROUND-UP". or Equal) to kill all broad-leaf weeds and grasses presrJnt in planting areas, according to manufacturer's directions. Herbicide: applicator shall be licensod by thr; State of California. 308-2.3 2 Fertilizing and Conditioning Procedures: ADD the following: The soil conditioning materials shall be evenly spread at the following rates per 1.000 square feet over all planting areas: Type 4 Or,;anic Soil Amendment Gypsum Pre-PI ant Fertilizer Iron Sulfc1te 6 cubic yards 50 pounds 40 pounds 25 pounds Rate of applic;,tion is for bidding purposes only. Tl1e Contractor shall submit a binding unit price tor each itemized soil amendment which will be used to determine changes to the contract amount in the event of modifications to the rates of applications as specified herein. Tho approved recommendations for amendments and backfill shall be incorporated into the landscape prior to start of construction and shall become part of approvr;d plans. Soil test shall indicate (but not limited to the following): 1 organic matter 2. Nitrogen. Pl1osphorus. Potassium 3. PH 4. EC 5. Soil texture (clay, silt, sand) 6. Recommendations for amendments -leaching, maintenance, and fertil,zation 308-2.4 fl NISH GRADING ADD tt,e following: The top four inches (4") of all planting areas shall be completely free of rocks and clods larger than one inch (1 ") in their largest dimension, c1nd all othnr groW1h or debris shall be rwnoved from the site All undulations and irregularities in the planting surfaces resulting from tillage, rototilling and all other operations shall be leveled and floated out before planting operations are initiated. The contractor shall take every precaution to protect and avoid damage to sprinkler heads, irrigation lines, and other underground utilities during leis grading and conditioning opera1ions All depressions where water will stand, all voids, erosion, settled trenches and excavations, and all ridges and rises which affect the maintenance or which visually are evident shall be filled with conditioned topsoil and/or removed by contractor, leaving a smooth, even finish grade. 308-4 PLANTING 308-4.1 General: ADD the following: Actual planting shall be performed during those periods when weather and soil conditions ore sui1able and in accordance with locally accepted horticultural practice. No planting shall be done in any area until the area concerned has been satisfactorily prepared in accordance with these specifications. Soil moisture level prior to planting shall be no less than 75% of field capacity. The determination of adequale soil moisture for planting shall be the sole judgment of the Landscape Architect and his decision shall be final The contrac1or shall obtain approval of planting pits before planting operations shall begin If the soil moisture level is found to be insufficient for planting, all planting pits shall be filled with water and allowed to dmin before starting planting operations. No more plants shall be distributed in the plonting area on any day than can be planted and watered on that day. All plants shall be planted and watered as herein specififld immediately after 1he removal of the containers. Containers shall no1 be cut prior to placing the plants in the planting area. 308-4 2 Protection and Storage: ADD the following: The contractor's on-site plant storage area shall be approved by the Landscape Architect prior to tlie delivery of any plant materials. Any plant determined by the Landscape Arcl1itect to be wilted or otherwise damaged shall be rejected at any time during the project, whether in the ground or not. All plants that has been l1andled by its trunk or stem shall be rejected. 308-4.5 Tree and Shrub Planting: ADD the following: Fertilizer planting tablets {21 gram size) shall be placed with each plant at the following rates· One (1) Tablet Two (2) Tablets Four (4) Tablets One (1) Tablet per per per per each 1 gallon container 5 gc1llon container 15 gallon container 2 inches of box size container One (1 )~5 gram fertilizing tablet (20-10-5) shall be placed per each fla1 size plant. Pruning shall be limited to the minimum necessary to remove injured !wigs and branches, and to compensate for loss of roots during transplanting, but never to exceed one-tenth the branching structure. Pruning may be done only with the approval of, and in the presence of, the Landscape Architect Cuts over three- quarters of an inch (3/4") sh;ill be painted with c1n approved tree wound paint. Bark Mulching. All parkway planting areas shall be mulched by covering the planting areas with a three inch (3") minimum deep layer of Type 2 bark mulch. 308-4.6 PLANT STAKING AND GUYING 308-4.6.1 Method A Tree Staking: DELETE 308-4.6.2 Method B: Tree Staking: DELETE 308-4.6.3 Guying: DELETE 308-4.6.4 Tree Staking ADD the following: All trees 24" box and smaller shall be staked as per planting and staking details (as indicated on plans). The stakes shall be driven in plumb and secure. Special care shall be taken that the driving in of the stake does not damage the tree roots or rootbflll. Tree ties shall be fastened to each tree at 2 or 3 times the diameter of the tree and by tc1cking the back of the tie to the stake. (See Detailed Drawing) The staking shall be accomplished by the Contractor in such a manner as to insure the proper and hec1lthy growth and safety of the plants, property and the public. 308-5.2 Irrigation Pipeline Installation 308-5.2.3 Plastic Pioeline. ADD the following: All PVC pressure pipe 3" and larger, polyvinyl chloride or asbestos cement, shall have t_he correct sized concrete thrust block installed at every abrupt change of alignment; at gate valves, at tees, elbows and crosses. and at ends of pipe runs; or wherever the field engineer deems one to be necessary. All connections to mainlines shall be made horizontally. All pressure pipe shall have a continuous warning tape placed directly on top of the pipe longitudinally and shall be centered. The warning tape shall be installed continuously for the entire length of tl7e pipe and shall be fas1ened to each pipe length by plastic tape banded around the pipe, with fasteners no more than 5 feet apart. Taping attached to the sections of pipe before laying in the trench shall have flaps sufficient for continuous coveraae All risi>rs between the mainline and control valves shall be installed with warning tape. A second warning tape running continuously above piping to be installed 12 inches above reclaimed wnter line. Irrigation mainline and lateral line is shown diagrammatically. Install in planting areas wherever pos.sible, as directed on drawings. Sleeves. Where reclaimed and potable water pressure mainline piping cross, the reclaimed water piping shall ba installed below the potable water piping in a Class 200 "Alertline" purple colored sleeve which extends a minimum of 10 feet on either side of the potable water piping and provide a minimum vertical clearance of 12 inches. Conventional (white) PVC pipe may be used tor sleeving material if it is taped with 3 inch wide red warning tape which reads "CAUTION RECLAIMED WATER" 308-5.3 Equipment Installation of Valves, Valve boxes and Special ADD the following: 308~5.3.1 Installation of Remote Control Valves and Master Control Valves, Plumb into lateral piping in locations as shown on the drawings and as detailed, Fit with valve box and locking purple cover as detailed. 308-5.3.2 Installation of Valve Boxes. Install valve boxes as shown on detail Install no more than one valve per box. 308·5.3.3 Installation of Pressure Regulators. Install as detailed in the detail drawings. Fit pressure regulators with valve box and locking cover as detailed. 308-5.3.4 Installation of Backflow Preventer Assembly. Backflow preventer assembly shall be installed two feet (2') away from an) obstacles and in accordance with manufacturer's specifications, located as directed on drawings. and shall conform to all applicable code and ordinance requirements. Exact location and positioning shall be verified and approved by Field Engineer. Plumb risers as shown on plans. INSTALL BACKFLOV', PREVENTER OUTSIDE OF PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY 308-5.3.5 Installation of Anti-Drain Valves. Anti-drain valves sliall be installed in the riser assemblies of sprinkler heads as detailed and as required. 308-5.3.6 Installation of Swing Check Valves and Spring Check Valves. Valves shall be installed in the lateral lines approximately where shown, sized according to line size BENCHMARK: 308·5.3. 7 Installation of Valves Install quick coupling valves, gate and ball valves, and remote controi valves adjacent to walks in shrub planting areas where possible, and as directed on plans. INSTALL ALL VALVES OUTSIDE OF PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY. 308-5.5 Au1omatic Control System Installation. ADD the !allowing. 308-5 5 2 Installation of the Direct Burial Wires. ADD TO! RFPIACE with the following All wiring shall follow the pressure niain insoli!r as possible. Wire splices shall be made according to manufacturer's instructions, and placed in pull boxes as specified hereinbefore. All wiring in pull boxes shall be loose and shall not come within three inches (3") of pu:I box lid. 308-5.5.3 Installation of the Automatic Controllers 'A' and 'B'. The Controllers shall be installed as per manufacturers directions within the specified pre-assembled enclosure and as shown and as directed (see legend and details). Final location shall be approved by the field engineer Controller shall be tested with complete electr1cc1I connections. The Contractor shall be responsible for temporary and permanent power to the controller for operation and testing purposes of controller and min-sensing device Connections to control wiring shall be made within automatic controller enclosure. All wire shall follow the prnssure mai1 insofar as possible. Electrical supply wiring shall be in a rigid galvanized steel conduit from power source to controller The Contractor shall be responsible for inst;,lling oil wiring to the sub-panels, clocks, or elsewhere as required 1n ardor to complete this installation. A main disconnect switch shall be included on t11e supply side of the controller. Numbering and tagging of wiring: Identify direct burial control wires from remote control valves to terminal strips of contco'ler at terminal strip by tagging wire with number of connected valve,; Control wires under paving shall be installed in sleeves per Section 212-2 1 3 and at depths per Section 308 2.2.1, keep separate lrom water line sleeves 308-5 5 4 Controller Charts. When completed and reviewed by t11e Landscape Architect. the chart shall be hermetically seci'ed between two pieces of plastic. each piece being a minimum 1 O mils thick These charts shall be completed and approved prior to final inspection ol the irrigation system. 308-5.5 5 Wire connections Neutral, pilot and spare wires shall be installed with a 2'-0" coiled excess wire length at each end enclosure. Each and every wire splice shall be encased in the waterproof epoxy ol the "Sco1h-pac" or "pen-t1te" connectors Wire splices shall be made only 1n valve or pull boxes, or controller enclosure. 308-5.5 6 Multiple Controller Installations. In multiple controller installations. enclosures shall be sized accordingly. No 11 O volt wire runs shall pass from controller c;ihinet to c;ih1net E,ich controller shall have a separate electrical service through ci r:iceway. Provide one power olf"on switch 1or each controll,lr. 308-5.6 Flushing and Testing. 308-5 6.2. Pipeline Pressure Test. ADD the following: Water pressure test shall be performed in the presence of the Carlsbad Municipal Water District Inspector and Landscape Architect. Contractor shall request the test at least forty t>ight (18) hours in advance of testing. Test to be accomplished a11he expense of the r.ontractor. Center load piping with small amount of backfill to prevent arching or slipping under pressure. Al! fittings and couplings to be totc1lly exposed. Apply a continuous and static water pressure when welded plastic joints have cured at least twenty four (24) hours Mainline to be tested for four (4) hours at 125 p.s.i. Repair leaks resulting from tests, and retest until system meets specified test. 308-5 6 3 Sprinkler Coverage Test. ADD the following. The coverage test and drip system operational test shall be performed in the presence of the Carlsbad Municipal Water District and the Landscape Architect. Adjustments to the irrigation equipment sh;,11 be m;,de and operc1te properly before any planting operations commence. EL[vAllON 46.67 ~.S.L. 308-6 MAINTENANCE AND PLANT ESTABLISHMENT. ADD the following: Any day upon which no work is required as determined by the Landscape Architect, the day will be credited as one of the plant establishment working days, regardless of whether or not the contractor performs plant establishment work. The contractor sliall provide complete landscape maintenance of all planting areas. The work sh;ill include, but not be limited to, watering, litter control. weed control, stc,ke repair, cultivating, repair of irrigation systems, and control of diseases and pests. The plant establishment period shall be for a period of 90 calendar days. At the direction of the Landscape Architect, the contractor shall control disease and pest infestations in the planting areas. The Landscape Architect shall approve all methods and materials for such control Upon approval, the contractor shall implement the control measures exercising extreme caution in using pesticides and taking all steps to ensure the safety ol the public. Only licensed personnel will be permitted to perform toxic spraying work. During the establishment period. the contractor shall furnish sufficient men and equipment on a daily or weekly basis to perform the work required by this section. Any day when the contractor fails to adequately carry out specified maintenance work, as determined necessary by the Landscape Architect. the d,1y will not be credited as onfl of tl1e plant establishment days. 308-7 GUARANTEE: ADD the following: All trees installed under the contract shall be guaranteed to live and grow for one (1) year from the day of final acceptance ol contract work. All other plant material shall be guaranteed to live and grow for a period of sixty (60) days from the day of final c1cceptance of the contract work. Any material found to be dead , missing or in poor condition during the establishment period, shall be replaced immediately. The Landscape Architect shall be the sole judge as to the condition of t11e material Material found to be dead or in poor condition within the guarantee period shall be replaced by the contractor, at his expense, within fifteen (15) days of written notification by the Developer. Replacements shall be made to the same specifications reouirAd !or the origin~! pl,mtinqs ADD NEW SECTION· 3 O a.g Temporary repairs. The Owner reserves the right to make temporary repairs as necessary to keep the sprinkler system in operating condition. The exercise of this right by the Owner shall not relieve the contractor of his responsibilities under the terms of the guarantee. ADD NEW SECTION. 308-10 Site Observations 1. In all cases where observation of the irrigation system is required and/ or where portions of the work are specified to be performed under the observation of the Carlsbad Municipal Water District. It will be the sole responsibility of the landscc1pe contractor to notify the Carlsbad Municipal Water District two (2) working days in advance of the time such observations am required. 2. Failure to call for any one of the observations called for below will constitute immediate stoppage of all performance payments to the contractor Observations are required for the following: 1. Upon installation and testing of mainlines. 2. Upon 1nstallat1on of lateral lines. 3. A comptete mainline pressure test and sprinkler <ilOverage test of entire system at final observation.
