GENERAL NOTES RECLAIMED WATER NOTES ALL WORK SHALL BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICTS "CARLSBAD RECLAIMED RULES & REGULATIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF RECLAIMED WATER MAINs" DATED OCTOBER 1993. ALL PUBLIC FACILlil'IES SUCH AS COMFORT STATIONS, DRINKING FOUNTAINS, ETC. SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM SPRAY BY RECLAIMED WATER. NO PONDING, RUN OFF OR OVERSPRAY IS PERMITTED. HOSE BIBS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED. ON-SITE CROSS-GONNECTIONS BETWEEN RECLAIMED WATER LINES AND POTABLE WATER LINES IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED. NO SUBSTITUTION OF PIPE MATERIALS WILL BE ALLOWED WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT. ALL ON SITE PIPES SHALL HAVE WARNING TAPE PER CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT RULES AND REGULATIONS. THE IRRIGATION SYSTEM SHALL RUN BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 10:00 PM AND 6:00 AM THE FOLLOWING MORNING (SPOT IRRIGATION COULD BE DONE AT A DIFFERENT TIME WITH QUALIFIED SUPERVISION PERSONNEL ON SITE). PROVIDE A MINIMUM OF AT LEAST 18 INCHES OF COVER OVER ALL WIRING AND PIPING. PRIVATE LOTS SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM CONTACT FROM RECLAIMED WATER, WHETHER BY WINDBLOWN SPRAY OR BY DIRECT APPLICATION, THROUGH IRRIGATION OR OTHER APPROVED USE. LACK OF PROTECTION, WHETHER BY DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION PRACTICE OR SYSTEM OPERATION, IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED. CONTRACTOR SHALL ADJUST HEADS TO PREVENT OVER-SPRAY ON ALL SIDEWALKS, STREETS, AND PRIVATE LOTS. QUICK COUPLING VALVES SHALL HAVE A SPECIAL COUPLE KEY PER CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT'S RULES AND REGULATIONS. METERS SHALL BE SIZED BY THE CITY OF CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT. 14. ALL IRRIGATION PIPE SHALL BE STENCILED. COLOR CODED (PURPLE), AND LAID WITH WARNING TAPE AS PER THE CITY OF CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT'S RULES AND REGULATIONS. 15. ALL POTABLE WATEJR AND RECLAIMED WATER PIPING SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH THE STENCILING ORIENTED TOWARD THE TOP OF THE TRENCH. 16. WHEN POTABLE Wl'iTER LINE AND RECLAIMED WATER LINE CROSS, THE RECLAIMED LINE SHALL BE INSTALLED WITHIN A PROTECTIVE SLEEVE. THE SLEEVE SHALL EXTEND 10 FEET FROM EACH SIDE, FROM THE CENTER LINE OF POTABLE LINE, FOR A TOTAL OF 20 FEET. 17. A 10 FOOT HORIZONTAL SEPERATION BETWEEN POTABLE WATER AND RECLAIMED WATER MAINS MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES. THE POTABLE LINES MUST BE INSTALLED ABOVE THE RECLAIMED LINE. 18. A MINIMUM OF 12 INCHES OF VERTICAL SEPERATION BETWEEN UTILITIES MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES. 19.• DEVELOPER / CONTRACTOR SHALL CONDUCT A CROSS-CONNECTION TEST AND COVERAGE TEST AS DIRECTED BY THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT ENGINEER OR THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PRIOR TO ANY USE OF RECLAIMED WATER, 20. QUICK COUPLING VALVES USED IN RECLAIMED WATER SYSTEMS SHALL CONFORM TO THE FOLLOWING. 21. 22.• 23.• 24, A. MONITOR AND MAINTAIN THE SYSTEM TO MINIMIZE EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL FAILURE. BROKEN SPRINKLER HEADS, LEAKS, UNRELIABLE VALVES, ETC. SHOULD BE REPAIRED AS SOON AS THEY BECOME APPARENT, 5. EDUCATE ALL MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL ON A CONTINOUS BASIS OF THE PRESENCE OF RECLAIMED WATER. PERSONNEL MUST BE INFORMED THAT RECLAIMED WATER IS MEANT FOR IRRIGATION PURPOSES ONLY, AND IS NOT APPROVED FOR DRINKING PURPOSES, HAND WASHING, CLEANING OF TOOLS, ETC. GIVEN THE HIGH TURNOVER RATE OF EMPLOYEES IN THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY, IT IS IMPORTANT THIS INFORMATION BE DISSEMINATED ON AN ALMOST DAILY BASIS. Store plant material in shade and protect from weather. 2. Maintain end protect plant material. C. Hondllng I. Do n1ot drop plant materials. 2. Do not pick up container plant material by stems o,.-trunks. 1.04 JOB CONDITIONS A. Planting Perform octuol planting only when weather and soil conditions ore suitable in accordcnce with locally accepted practice. B. Scheduling Install trees, shrubs, and liner stock plant moterlal befo,.-e hydrouflc-seeded lawn areas are installed. 1.05 SAMPLES AND TESTS A. Landscape Architect reserves the right to toke and analyze samples of materials for conformity to speclflcatlons at any time. Conte-actor shall furnish samples upon request by Landscape Architect. Rejected moter-ials sholl be immediately removed from the site at Contractor's expense. Cost of testing of moteriols not meetln,;i specifications shall be paid by Contractor. B. Tests and Reviews Owner's representotlve reserves the right to evaluate materials for conformity to this Speclflcatton. Furnish test samples upon request. Rejected materials shall be removed from the site at no cost to the Owner. C. Agronomic Soils Testing I. Take• 3 samples of site soll at a depth of 5 to 12 Inches, within proposed planting areas, af+e,.-completion of rough gr-adlng and pr"iOr" to week control and soil preparation. 2. Toke one m sample of imported topsoil (where applicable I from each source obtained. 3. B,.-lng samples to on agronomic soils testing laboratory registered by the State of California & approved by the City Landscape Inspector. 4. Request testing for fertlllty and suitability analysis with written recommendations for soil amendment, fertlllzer and chemical conditioners, application rates for soil preparation, planting backfill mix, hydrosproy, and post-maintenance fertilization programs. 5. Soils repo,.-+ r-ecommendations shall be approved by the City Landscape Inspector prior to installation, and toke precedence over the amendment and fertilizer application rotes specified in this Section. 6. Cost of soils testing shall be paid by contractor. D. Percolation Testing: I. Upon completlon of the rough grading of the site, the Owner's representative shall identify a typical location for one of the largest specimen box trees and the contractor shcilexcavote the pit for the tree per the project specifications ond details. 2. With the Owner p,.-esent, the contr"actor shall fill the pit with wate, to o depth of 12', If posslble. The length of time required for the water to percolate into the soll, leovlno the pit empty, wlll be measured by the contractor and verified by the Owner's representative. 3. Within six hours of the time the water-hos drained from the pit the contractor, with the Owner present, shall again fill the pit with wa+e,.-to a depth of 12'. If water does not completely percolate Into the soil within 9 hours a determination will be made by the Owner as to whether or not a drainage system to each tree wlll be required. 1.06 GUARANTEE ANO REPLACEMENTS A. Guarantee All plant moterlol lnstolled under-the Contract shall be guaranteed ooalnst any and all poor, inadequate or inferior mo+e,.-lols and/or workmanship for a per"lod of one yeor. Any plant found to be dead or in poor condition due to faulty moterlals or workmanship, as determined by the Landscape Architect, shall be replaced by the Contractor ct hls expense. B. Replacement Any materials found to be dead, missing or in poor condition during the establishment period shall be replaced Immediately. The Landscape Architect shall be the sole judge as to the condition of mote,iol. Materiel to be r"eploced within the guarantee period shall be replaced by the Contractor within 15 days of Wr"ltten notification by the Owner. PART 2 -PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIAL A. General I. The size of the plants will correspond with that nor-molly expected for species and variety of commercially ovalloble nu,sery stock or as specified ln the special conditions or drawings. In preparing palm trees for relocation, all dead fronds shall be removed and the entire trunk skinned clean to the height of the green fronds. All excavated holes shall hove vertical sides with roughened surfaces ond shall be of a size that is twice the diameter and 24-inch minimum to 4-foot maximum deeper in the ground than the palms originally stood. Schedule 48 hours in advance with the Construction Manager and the lrrometer company, on installation meeting to review and to assist in the i,rometer instollotlon of each zone to be installed. C. lrromete, Instructions shall be Installed as approved by the Manufacturer's Representative. I. Remove turf by uslng the enclosure as a potter. Examine root system of the removed sod to determine most desirable depths. 2. Prepare holes for ir,ometers by driving o 7 /8 in. 0.D. rod 11/2 in. galvanized pipe) into the ground so that the tip, when Inserted, will be located at the desired depth. Do not drive installing tool beyond the length of the ir,ometer to be Installed. Remove tip covering and Insert lrromete,-into hole making sure that the tip makes solid contact with the soil. 3.
