HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-04-01; Arts Commission; MinutesMEETING OF: DATE OF MEETING: PLACE OF MEETING: ARTS COMMISSION CARLSBAD SPECIAL ARTS COMMISSION MEETING Thursday, April 1, 2021 Teleconference CALL TO ORDER: Chair Laurenn Barker called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: Commissioners Barker, Snyder, Jadhav, Chamberlain, Nassiri, Chung and Miringoff. STAFF PRESENT: Richard Schultz, Cultural Arts Manager Karen McGuire, Gallery Curator Daisy Hernandez, Senior Office Specialist APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the Arts Commission meeting held March 4, 2021. Motion by Commissioner Snyder, seconded by Commissioner Jadhav, to approve the Minutes of the special meeting held on March 4, 2021. Motion carried, 5/0/0/2 (Chung and Miringoff- Abstained). PUBLIC COMMENT: None. INTRODUCTION OF NEW ARTS COMMISSIONERS: Commissioners Chung and Miringoff introduced themselves, spoke about their backgrounds and shared why they were interested in being a part of the Arts Commission. WILLIAM D. CANNON GALLERY UPDATE: The Commission received a sneak peek of the upcoming exhibit, Material Pulses: Seven Viewpoints, which will open Tuesday, April 6 with social distancing and safety protocols. The new Qless software will be utilized to make reservations. Karen McGuire also updated the commissioners on the upcoming 2021 Juried Biennial exhibit, which is accepting applications through April 23, 2021. CHAIR REPORT: Chair Barker wanted to call the commissioner's attention to the workshop that was referenced in the FY 2021-22 Arts Commission Workplan. She hopes the other commissioners are looking forward to working together on this future meeting. CULTUAL ARTS MANAGER REPORT: Manager Schultz welcomed Commissioners Chung and Miringoff. He reviewed the Foundant Technologies software to manage the Community Arts Page 2 of 2 Arts Commission Minutes of the April 1, 2021 Meeting Grants. The 2021-22 Community Arts grants cycle opens April 12 and the application deadline is May 24. He also informed the commissioners on the upcoming presentation to the City Council on April 13. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS: Commissioners shared the highlights of their participation and attendance at local virtual arts events and programs.
