Public comments are still being accepted via mail or email through Oct. 22, 2021. Outreach to Spanish speaking community members is ongoing and includes offering the on line survey in Spanish and outreach at the city's Library Learning Center, local schools and upcoming community events. Focused stakeholder outreach is also underway to local service providers and other organizations that can help reach traditionally underrepresented groups. Presentations are also planned in October and November to organizations including the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Carlsbad, Carlsbad Village Association and the San Diego Building Industry Association. In addition, staff has mailed letters to school districts in the City of Carlsbad to provide notice of the effort to rezone properties to accommodate the forecasted growth. The letters note the opportunity for school districts to review and comment on the environmental preparation and analysis for the rezone effort. More information on the overall engagement effort is available on the Housing Plan Update webpage: www.carlsbadca.gov/housingplan Next Steps Staff will prepare a Public Input Report with a summary of all public involvement efforts and input received for the City Council's consideration. The summary will be made available on the project website and shared with those who provided input. In early 2022, the City Council is expected to meet to review the input and consider endorsing final map(s) for environmental review. The environmental document prepared will include an evaluation of public facilities for the potential rezones, including evaluation of potential new students and school district capacities.
