As of Sept. 27, 2021, the survey has received more than 700 responses. Public comments are still
being accepted via mail or email through Oct. 22, 2021.
Outreach to Spanish speaking community members is ongoing and includes offering the on line
survey in Spanish and outreach at the city's Library Learning Center, local schools and upcoming
community events. Focused stakeholder outreach is also underway to local service providers and
other organizations that can help reach traditionally underrepresented groups.
Presentations are also planned in October and November to organizations including the Carlsbad
Chamber of Commerce, Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Carlsbad, Carlsbad Village
Association and the San Diego Building Industry Association.
In addition, staff has mailed letters to school districts in the City of Carlsbad to provide notice of
the effort to rezone properties to accommodate the forecasted growth. The letters note the
opportunity for school districts to review and comment on the environmental preparation and
analysis for the rezone effort.

Next Steps
Staff will prepare a Public Input Report with a summary of all public involvement efforts and
input received for the City Council's consideration. The summary will be made available on the
project website and shared with those who provided input.
In early 2022, the City Council is expected to meet to review the input and consider endorsing
final map(s) for environmental review. The environmental document prepared will include an
evaluation of public facilities for the potential rezones, including evaluation of potential new
students and school district capacities.
