Inc., Dated March I, 2018. Dear Mr. Snyder: In accordance with your request, we have reviewed the referenced geotechnical report to address the City of Carlsbad issues of concern in their review of documents for the proposed single- family residence at the subject site. 1. Based on an estimated R-value of 50 for the on-site soils and the assumed traffic indexes, the following concrete pavement section is recommended for the proposed driveway, walkways and patio at the subject site: Location Traffic Index Pavement Section Driveway 5.0 6" PCC on Compacted Subgrade Walkways and Patio 4.5 4" PCC on Compacted Subgrade The upper 12 inches of subgrade should be moisture-conditioned within 2 percent over optimum and compacted to at least 95 percent relative compaction (ASTM D 1557). PCC pavement should be a minimum of 3,500 psi concrete. It is recommended that steel reinforcement be provided for PCC pavements which will be subject to heavy impact loading, such as trash and fire trucks. Minimum reinforcement should consist of #3 deformed rebar placed at 18-inch centers each way. Placement of concrete, control/ expansion joints, and any reinforcement should be conformance with AC! specifications and the Structural Engineer's design. CDP 2018-0019 James M. Snyder/ 1781 Skimmer Court/ Carlsbad Proj ect No. 18-l / 27£5 2. As presented in the referenced geotechnical report, we recommended overexcavation and recompaction to a minimum depth of 2 feet below the bottom of the proposed footings (i.e. 3.5 feet) following clearing and grubbing, i.e the removal of vegetation and concrete waste from the demolition of the remaining foundation and slab. The bottom of the excavation should be scarified, moisture-conditioned within 2 percent above the optimum moisture content and compacted to a minimum of 90 percent relative compaction (ASTM Dl 557 test method). Compacted fills should consist of approved soil material, free of trash debris, roots, vegetation or other deleterious materials. Fill soils should be compacted by suitable compaction equipment in uniform loose lifts of 6 to 8 inches. Unless otherwise specified, all soils subjected to recompaction should be moisture-conditioned within 2 percent over the optimum moisture content and compacted to at least 90 percent relative compaction per ASTM test method DI 557. If we can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our office. Respectfully submitted, ;_~ou ~ GE 27 XP __ _ . (. - Mamadou Saliou Diallo, P.E. RCE 54071 , GE 2704 MSD\md 2
