Dyna-Thread sprinkler pipe represents an engineering advancement for the sprinkler pipe industry. It combines the safety and longevity of traditional Sch-40 pipe with quality and superior hydraulic advantages. Dyna-Thread's inside diameter is up to 3.6% larger than Sch-40 giving it superior hydraulics. And, when used in combination with Dyna-Flow pipe, down sizing often occurs. Dyna-Thread is fully listed and approved by UL, ULC, and FM for fire sprinkler applications. The life expectancy of Dyna-Thread and Sch-40 are equal based on the calculated wall thicknesses per UL. The consistent quality of steel used to make Dyna-Thread facilitates smooth threading and lower maintenance costs. The exterior of Dyna-Thread is protected by a clean, durable mill coating for extended shelf life and easy paint application. (9 <~> @ Listed Approved Listed With its increased strength and lighter weight, Dyna-Thread reduces installation fatigue and is ideal for retro-fit applications. Corrosion Resistance Ratio (CRR) is a UL (Underwriters Laboratory) term for the estimated life expectancy of a pipe joint. This is based on the calculated wall thickness at the base of the first exposed thread, assumed to be the weakest point of the pipe length. Dyna- Thread and Sch-40 have the same calculated wall thicknesses at this point and are both assigned the same CRR of 1.00. The internal surface of all black Allied Tube & Conduit Fire Sprinkler pipe products up to 4.5000" in diameter is coated with our new Antibacterial Formula, 'ABF'. In scientific laboratory test, ABS proved to have superior resistance to microbial colonization of pipe walls, thereby delaying or possibly preventing the onset of Microbiologically Influenced corrosion (MIC) when the First Sprinkler System is first installed. More wall thickness at the thread (CR.R=1.00) gives Dyna-Thread better life expectancy than lightwall threadable pipe joints. Unlike lightwall threadable pipe, Dyna-Thread has no thread gauge warning. Dyna-Thread is approved for standard hanger spacing (15 ft. O.C.), can be used as earthquake sway bracing, and is safe to use as drops. Dyna-Thread is safer to weld on. Dyna-Thread is more widely accepted than lightwall threadable where Sch-40 is specified. Super 40/Dyna-Thread pipe is manufactured to meet: ASTM A-135, Grade A and is in compliance with NFPA- 13. All sizes of Super 40/Dyna- Thread are rated at 300 psi working pressure. Super 40/Dyna-Thread is UL and ULC Listed for wet, dry deluge and pre-action sprinkler systems and FM Approved for use in wet systems. Super 40/Dyna-Thread can be "hot-dip" galvanized to meet FM requirement for dry systems. Super 40/Dyna-Thread is approved for all threaded couplings and welded outlets and is suitable for all roll-grooved, and plain-end fittings. (See listing information). Specifications NPS Nominal I.D. They are stronger and more corrosion resistant than cast iron fittings. The additional strength is provided by the ductile properties and by adding mag- nesium while the iron is being poured into the final cast shape. Although tighter than standard cast iron, the fit- tings have an added advantage of be- ing less susceptible to cracking due to their added strength. The Series 800, California, and Figure 719 Threaded Pipe Fittings are a re- designation for the Central Series 800, California, and Figure 719 Threaded Pipe Fittings. WARNINGS The Threaded Pipe Fittings described herein must be installed and main- tained in compliance with this docu- ment, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Pro- tection Association, in addition to the standards of any other authorities hav- ing jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for maintain- ing their fire protection system and de- vices in proper operating condition. The installing contractor or sprinkler manufacturer should be contacted with any questions. NOTE Installers who have not used ductile iron threaded fittings should be in- structed that the fittings are stron- ger than the pipe and overtightening the fitting can create leaks and cause damage to pipe threads. In general, there Is about one-half turn difference between cast iron and ductile iron fit- tings. Apply Teflon tape or high qual- ity pipe joint compound on the male pipe threads and tighten two to three turns beyond hand tight. If an auto- matic make-on machine is being used, please exercise caution in setting the machine to the proper parameters pri- or to tightening fittings onto the male pipe threads. It is the best choice for archi- tecturally sensitive areas such as hotel lobbies, office buildings, churches, and restaurants. Each unit includes a Cover Plate As- sembly that conceals the sprinkler op- erating components above the ceiling. The separable two-piece design of the Cover Plate and Support Cup Assem- blies allows installation of the sprin- klers and pressure testing of the fire protection system prior to installation of a suspended ceiling or application of the finish coating to a fixed ceiling. They also permit removal of sus- pended ceiling panels for access to building service equipment without having to first shut down the fire pro- tection system and remove sprinklers. Also, the separable two-piece design of the the Sprinkler provides for 1/2 inch (12,7 mm) of vertical adjustment, to reduce the accuracy to which the length of fixed pipe drops to the sprin- klers must be cut. The Series RFII Sprinklers are shipped with a Disposable Protective IMPORTANT Always refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP 700 for the "INSTALLER WARNING" that provides cautions with respect to handling and instal- lation of sprinkler systems and com- ponents. Improper handling and in- stallation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo- nents and cause the sprinkler to fall to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. Cap. The Protective Cap is temporarily removed for installation, and then it can be replaced to help protect the sprinkler while the ceiling is being in- stalled or finished. The tip of the Pro- tective Cap can also be used to mark the center of the ceiling hole into plas- ter board, ceiling tiles, etc. by gently pushing the ceiling product against the Protective Cap. When the ceiling in- stallation is complete the Protective Cap is removed and the Cover Plate Assembly installed. As an option, the Series RFII Standard Response (5 mm bulb) "Royal Flush II" Concealed Pendent Sprinklers may be fitted with a silicone Air and Dust Seal (Ref. Fig. 5). The Air and Dust Seal is intended for sensitive areas where it is desirable to stop air and dust travel through the cover plate from the area above the ceiling. WARNINGS The Series RFII Concealed Pendent Sprinklers described herein must be installed and maintained in compli- ance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Association, in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the per- formance of these devices. The owner is responsible for maintain- ing their fire protection system and de- vices in proper operating condition. At this point the Deflector sup- ported by the Guide Pins drops down to its operational position. The glass Bulb contains a fluid that expands when exposed to heat. When the rated temperature is reached, the fluid expands sufficiently to shatter the glass Bulb, activating the sprinkler and allowing water to flow. Design Criteria The RFII (TY3551), 5 mm Bulb Type, Concealed Pendent Sprinklers are UL and C-UL Listed as standard response - standard spray sprinklers for use in accordance with the current NFPA standard. They are FM Approved as standard response - standard spray sprinklers for use in accordance with the current FM Loss Prevention Data Sheets. The Series RFII must not be used in applications where the air pressure above the ceiling is greater than that below. Down drafts through the Sup- port Cup could delay sprinkler opera- tion in a fire situation. Installation The Series RFII must be installed in accordance with the following instruc- tions: NOTES Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch (1,6 mm) for the 155°F/68°C and 3/32 inch (2,4 mm) for the 200°F/93C tem- perature ratings. A 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a minimum to maxi- mum torque of 7 to 14 ft.lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). Higher levels of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet with conse- quent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to compensate for in- sufficient adjustment in the Sprinkler Assembly by under- or over-tightening the Sprinkler/Support Cup Assembly. Readjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. Step 1. The sprinkler must only be installed in the pendent position and with the centerline of the sprinkler per- pendicular to the mounting surface. Step 2. Remove the Protective Cap. Step 3. With pipe thread sealant ap- plied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 4. Wrench tighten the sprinkler using only the RFII Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 3). The RFII Sprinkler Wrench is to be applied to the Sprin- kler as shown in Figure 3. Step 5. Replace the Protective Cap (Ref. Figure 4) by pushing it upwards until it bottoms out against the Support Cup. The Protective Cap helps prevent damage to the Deflector and Arms dur- ing ceiling installation and/or during application of the finish coating of the ceiling. It may also be used to locate the center of the clearance hole by gently pushing the ceiling material up against the center point of the Protec- tive Cap. NOTE As long as the Protective Cap remains in place, the system is considered to be "Out of Service".1 A * Registered Trademark of DuPont Step 6. After the ceiling has been com- pleted with the 2-1/2 inch (63,5 mm) diameter clearance hole and in prepa- ration for installing the Cover Plate As- sembly, remove and discard the Pro- tective Cap, and verify that the Deflector moves up and down freely. If the Sprinkler has been damaged and the Deflector does not move up and down freely, replace the entire Sprin- kler assembly. Do not attempt to mod- ify or repair a damaged sprinkler. Step 7. When installing an Air and Dust Seal, refer to Figure 5, otherwise proceed to Step 8. To attach the Air and Dust Seal, verify the angle of the outside edge of the seal is oriented according to Figure 5. Start the edge of the Retainer in the grooved slot of the Air and Dust Seal and continue around the retainer until the entire Air and Dust Seal is engaged. NOTE The Air and Dust Seal is only to be installed on the periphery of the Re- tainer. Step 8. Screw on the Cover Plate/Re- tainer Assembly until the Retainer - Figure 2 (or Air and Dust Seal - Figure 5) contacts with the ceiling. Do not continue to screw on the Cover Plate/Retainer Assembly such that it lifts a ceiling panel out of its normal position. If the Cover Plate/Retainer Assembly cannot be engaged with the Support Cup or the Cover Plate/Re- tainer Assembly cannot be engaged sufficiently to contact the ceiling, the Sprinkler Fitting must be repositioned. Care and Maintenance The Series RFll must be maintained and serviced in accordance with the following instructions: NOTES Absence of the Cover Plate Assembly may delay sprinkler operation in a fire situation. This air gap is necessary for proper opera- tion of the sprinkler. If the ceiling is to be repainted after the installation of the Sprinkler, care must be exercised to ensure that the new paint does NOT seal off any of the air gap. Factory painted Cover Plates MUST NOT be repainted. They should be re- placed, if necessary, by factory painted units. Do not pull the Cover Plate relative to the Enclosure. Separation may result. Before closing a fire protection system main control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it controls, permission to shutdown the affected fire protection system must be obtained from the proper authorities and all personnel who may be affected by this action must be notified. Sprinklers that are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Modi- fied sprinklers must be replaced. Sprinklers that have been exposed to corrosive products of combustion, but have not operated, should be replaced if they cannot be completely cleaned by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth or by brushing it with a soft bristle brush. Care must be exercised to avoid dam- age to the sprinklers - before, during, and after installation. Sprinklers dam- aged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be re- placed. Also, replace any sprinkler that has a cracked bulb or that has lost liquid from its bulb. (Ref. Installation Section). If a sprinkler must be removed, do not reinstall it or a replacement without reinstalling the Cover Plate Assembly. If a Cover Plate Assembly becomes dislodged during service, replace it im- mediately. The owner is responsible for the in- spection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and de- vices in compliance with this docu- ment, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protec- tion Association (e.g., NFPA 25), in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. The in- stalling contractor or sprinkler manu- facturer should be contacted relative to any questions. Automatic sprinkler systems should be inspected, tested, and maintained by a qualified Inspection Service in accord- ance with local requirements and/or national codes.
