Beam tolerances are +le 1-inch at the top of beams and +I-1 :120 for vertical plumbness. 2. Drill shafts. Shafts shall not be drilled adjacently; a two-phase sequence is required (unless otherwise directed by the Geotechriical Engineer). Drilled shafts are not permitted to be. left open over-night unless well secured, covered with plywood and approval from the Geotechnical Engineer. 3. Place soldier. beams iii. shaft. Fill shaft with 2500 psi concrete in the Embedment depths as specified on Schedule. Fill balance of shaft with lean sand-cement mixture (slurry: 1 ½ sacks of cement per c:ubic yard of sand). 4. Take initial monitoring readings. See SOLDIER BEAM SURVEY MONITORING for requirements. 5. Lagging between soldier beams is required. 6. Timber lagging shall be treated. See the Material Specification, TIMBER for requirements. 7. Careful installation of the Jagging will be necessary to achieve full bearing against the retained earth. Fill voids _behind lagging With sarid slurry to insure bearing of soil along the full length of lagging. Lifts are not to exceed 5 feet. 8. Continue with the excavation and lagging installation (from the top down) until sub-grade is reached. Lagging may be required to be installed to bottom of proposed footings or sub-drain or specified over-excavation depth. The General Contractor shall be consulted for exact lagging requirement OBSERVATION BY SHORING ENGINEER 1. A pre-construction meeting between the Shoring Engineer, Geotechnical Engineer, Shoring Sub-Contractor, General Contractor and City Inspectors shall take place .prior to start of shoring for the purpose of procedural review, soldier beam layout and utility identification/location. 2. The Shoring Engineer shall make periodic observations to the job site for the purpose of observing the installation of the shoring system. 3. Observ.ation shall include but not.be limited to the following: a. Observe the installation of soldier beams and lagging; b. Review of weekly monitoring readings. 4. The Contractor shall notify the Shoring Engineer at least 48 hours prior to the occurrence-.of Item a. above. MATERIAL SPECIFICATION SHAFTS 1. Shafts are to be machine drilled. shafts are to be accurately located so thatthe soldier beams are in th.e .proper relation to the property lines and proposed basement walls. 2. Shafts shall not be drilled .adjacently; a minimum 2-phase sequence Is required unless otherwise directed by the Geotechriical Engineer. TIMBER: 1. Wood lagging shall be rough sawn Douglas-Fir No. 2. See TYPICAL PLAN SECTION DETAIL on SH-2. 2. Wood lagging shall be ACQ pressure treated with a rninimurn retention of preservative of 0.4 pcf and approved for use in ground contact by the City of Carlsbad. STRUCTURAL STEEL: 1. Structural steel stiall conform to ASTM A-572, Grade 50 or ASTM A-992. 2. Miscellan.eous steel shall conform to ASTM A-36, ASTM A-572, Grade 50 or ASTM A-992. 3. Fabricator for structural steel work shall be City of Carlsbad Building Department licensed. WELDING: 1. Welds shall be electric arc using E70XX electrodes or continuous wire feed. 2. Str1.1ctural s.teel welding shall conform to ANSI/AWS D1 .1 :2004. 3. Welders shall be City of Carlsbad certified. 4.
