CONFORMANCE
These specifications designate the requirements for
manufacturing and installing Vinyltech AWWA 0900-
07 water pipe.
AWWA C900-07 - Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pressure
Pipe and Fabricated Fittings, 4 In. Through 12 In. (100mm
Through 300mm), for Water Transmission and Distribution
AWWA C605 - Underground Installation of Polyvinyl
Chloride (PVC) Pressure Pipe and Fittings for Water
ASTM D1784 - Standard Specification for Rigid Poly
(Vinyl Chloride) (PVC) Compounds and Chlorinated
Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (CPVC) Compounds
ASTM D3139 - Standard Specification for Joints for
Plastic Pressure Pipes Using Flexible Elastomeric Seals
ASTM F477 - Standard Specification for
Elastomeric Seals (Gaskets) for Joining Plastic Pipe
ASTM D2412 - Standard Test Method for
Determination of External Loading Characteristics of
Plastic Pipe by Parallel-Plate Loading
PIPE COMPOUND
The pipe shall be extruded from compounds
meeting (PVC1120) the requirements of Cell
Classification 12454, as defined in ASTM D1784,
Standard Specification for Rigid Poly (Vinyl
Chloride) (PVC) Compounds and Chlorinated
Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (CPVC) Compounds. The
PVC shall also be listed by the National Sanitation
Foundation (NSF) for use in potable water.
PIPE
Vinyltech pipe shall be manufactured in
accordance with AWWA 0900-07.
GASKET JOINT
The gasket shall be reinforced with a steel band
and meet the requirements of ASTM F477.
Vinyltech pipe shall have an integral bell end with
a locked-in factory installed gasket and shall meet
the joint requirements of ASTM D3139.
MARKING
The pipe shall be marked in accordance with
AWWA C900 as in the following example.
Manufacturer's name and production codes
Nominal size, dimension ratio number, and
O.D. base (for example, 8" DR 18 CIS)
Materials cell classification (PVC1120)
AWWA pressure class (235 psi or 305 psi)
and hydrostatic test pressure (T600, or T800)
AWWA designation number (AWWA 0900-07)
1) National Sanitalon Foundation (NSF-61)
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) logo, third party
certification.
Production date and time code (VABB1513 48.34)
I) FM Approvals (FM) logo, required FM pressure
rating (150 or 200 psi), third party certification
QUALITY CONTROL
Each length of the pipe including the bell shall be
hydrostatically tested. The pipe shall meet all ad-
ditional test requirements as described in
AWWA 0900-07. Our full time quality assurance
staff continually administers a rigid program of
tests to maintain the production of the best pipe
products available.
INSTALLATION
Recommended installation procedures of
Vinyltech Corporation are outlined in AWWA
C605, Underground Installation of Polyvinyl
Chloride (PVC) Pressure Pipe and Fittings for
Water. The AWWA Manual M23, PVC Pipe-
Design and Installation, is also an invaluable
resource guide for design and installation.
TAPPING
The consistent success of tapping PVC pressure
pipe is contingent upon the use of proper proce-
dures and equipment. Vinyltech recommends
strict compliance with the requirements as speci-
fied in AWWA C605.
ASSEMBLING THE PIPE
Assembly of Vinyltech PVC water pipe is easily
accomplished. A depth of entry mark is on each
spigot end to serve as a visual check for rapid,
accurate joint inspection. Do not over insert.
Remove any mud, sand, or other foreign
matter from the belled and spigot ends of the
pipe. Carefully clean the gasket area.
With a clean applicator (a brush or hand) lu-
bricate the entire surface of the pipe from the
spigot end to the depth of entry mark and the
contact surface of the gasket with Vinyltech
Brand Lubricant.
Brace the bell to avoid disturbing the already
installed joints. Align the pipe, insert the spigot
into the bell and push.
Do not insert past the entry mark line.

Notes:
Starrips® must be adequately wrapped or protected if they are covered by concrete to ensure that concrete does not enter the wedge pocket.
For applications exceeding the maximum pressure ratings listed, please contact Star Pipe Products for recommendations (see Tandem Stargrip).
For applications on existing pipe, the pipe needs to be structurally sound and the surface needs to be relatively free of any corrosive by-products in
order for the wedges to function properly. Please contact Star Pipe Products for technical assistance.

FLANGED DUCTILE IRON PIPE
Ductile iron pipe is commonly fabricated for use as interior process piping in water and
sewage treatment facilities and has been covered by ANSI standards since 1926. Under
direction of Committee A/21 of AWWA, this standard is subject to periodic review and is
updated to include fabricator practices reflecting current usage in the industry.
Flanged ductile iron pipe is fabricated by means of threading the pipe and attaching
threaded companion flanges in accordance with ANSI/AWWA Cl 15/A21.15.
Taper pipe threads in accordance
with ANSI B2.1 table 15.1 and
152 of above standard.
Machine tightened flanges and
pipe ends shall be faced after
fabrication.
Length, weight and fabrication
mark, (if other than flange
manufacturer) must appear on
each piece of fabricated pipe.

FLANGES
Class 125 Flanges
Standard flanges are plain-faced without
projection or raised faces and are
furnished smooth or with shallow
serrations (re: table 15.3 ANSJ/AWWA
C115/A21. 15).
Either ductile-iron or gray-iron flanges
may be used unless otherwise specified by
the owner. Flanges shall conform to the
respective chemical and physical
properties specified for gray-iron and
ductile iron fittings in ANSI/AWWA
Cl 10/A21.10, Standard for Ductile-Iron and
Gray-Iron Fittings, 3 in. through 54 in., for
Water and Other Liquids. Flanges are to
be adequately marked as C. I. or D. I., Class
Rating, Manufacturer or Fabricator's
mark if different from manufacturer.
These flanges are adequate for water
service of 250 psi working pressure. Bolt
circle and bolt holes can be joined with
Class 125 ANSI 1316.1 or Class 150 ANSI
B 16.5 flanges. However, these flanges
cannot be joined with Class 250 ANSI
B16. I flanges, flanged fittings and valves.
These flanges as shown in ANSI B 16.1 are larger, thicker and possess different bolt circles
and may have more bolt holes. They cannot be joined to Class 125 flanges. They are rated for
250 psi working pressure.

Other Flange Design Considerations
There are design considerations for flanges not addressed by ANSI B 16.1 but which are
integral design considerations for flanges (see ANSI/AWWA Cl 15/A21.15 Table 15.3 and
Figure 15.1).
These include but are not limited to hub length and cavities between bolt holes.
Loose Flanges
Flanged pipe fabricated in accordance with these standards requires facing after machine
tightening (ANSI/AWWA Cl 15/A21.15 Section 15-9.2). It is therefore not recommended that
flanges be ordered with flanges loose for field completion.
Threaded Mechanical joint Adapters
Currently many fabricators provide threaded on mechanical joint bells in lieu of static
castings. These bells are produced from dimensions provided by ANSI/AWWA Cli 1/A2 1.11
and are threaded in accordance with ANSI/AWWA C1 15/A21.15.
