maximum dry density determined per ASTM D1557. Areas of backfill and
subgrade and base material that were found to be under-compacted were
pointed out to the contractor for corrective work. Those areas were
approved a~er corrective work was provided and satisfactory passing test
results were obtained. A list of test results is presented on Figure No. IIIs.
8. Excavators or backhoes (JD 410 C) with attached compaction wheels were
used to compact the trench backfill up to -1 foot below the top of the trench.
From there, a Bob Cat, mechanical hand tampers, and a smooth steel wheel
roller were used to compact the backfill.
9. The pavement section approved by the City consisted of 4 inches of asphalt
concrete over 6 inches of Class II Base Material over properly compacted
subgrade in the street area. In the driveway and parking area the required
pavement was 3 inches of asphalt concrete on 4 inches of Class II base.
10. Field density tests were performed at the approximate locations shown in the
attached Plot Plan, Figure No II.
