This report has been revised based on commentary from the City of Carlsbad, via email, requesting a compaction test location map. Construction Summary Rough grading of the subject building pads was completed under the observation of, and with selective testing by GeoTek, as reported in our December 2018 report (Reference 7). Selective testing and observations for utilities and private driveways were performed between September 19, 2018 and November 6, 2020 and were provided on a part-time, on-call basis. Based on our field observations and testing during site grading, we noted the following:  Field density tests were taken at periodic intervals and random locations to check the compaction efforts by the contractor.  Visual classification of the soil in the field, compared to the soil descriptions from the laboratory testing, was the basis for determining the maximum density and optimum moisture content applied to each field density test.  Sewer, storm drain, dry utilities, domestic and fire water utility backfill was tested.  Private driveway subgrade.  Public driveway approach and curb and gutter subgrade.  Public asphalt concrete patch back along public improvements. Field density test results indicated that the fill materials were compacted to a minimum of 90 percent compaction relative to ASTM D1557 at the locations tested for utility trenches and storm drain/street/sidewalk and subgrade. Field density test results indicated that the fill materials were compacted to a minimum of 95 percent compaction relative to ASTM D1557 at the locations tested for curb and gutter subgrade, aggregate base and ASTM D 2950 for asphalt concrete. The field density test results are included in Table 1A-G for the various backfills/items as follows: Table 1A- Sewer, Table 1B -Water, Table 1C-Fire Line, Table 1D-Dry Utility, Table 1E- Street, Table 1F - Storm Drain, and Table 1G - Sidewalk. Approximate locations are shown on Figure 1. Laboratory Testing The laboratory testing pertinent to field density tests is the Moisture-Density Relationships for the various soils encountered: The laboratory maximum dry density and optimum moisture content for soil types tested were determined in general accordance with test method ASTM D1557. Laboratory test results are presented in Table A.
