REFERENCE: Grading Plans (Sheets 1 through 5) for Pacific View Estates, Phase II, Units 2 and 3, Carlsbad Tract #96-03, Prepared by Dudek and Associates, Undated. Gentlemen: At your request, we reviewed the refere_nced grading plans pertaining to the proposed retaining walls adjacent to the northern toe of the embankment supporting Carlsbad Village Drive. The I plans indicate that the walls are proposed within Lots 21, 22, 23 and 26 of the subject tract. The maximum height of the wall proposed would be on the order of 8 feet. We understand, that the proposed wall construction would require back cut into the subject toe portion of the embankment supporting Carlsbad Village Drive.-However, the fill conditions at the proposed back cut location are unknown at this time. Based on our previous study, we believe the embankment fill is generally present in a medium dense state. On the basis of our limited study, and engineering experience and judge~ent, we recommend test pits be excavated within the proposed wall back CT C/{f)-03 • t. At that time field conditions will be evaluated and a geotechnical summary report will be prepared by this office addressing the temporary stability of the embankment and recommendations regarding the construction of the walls and its backfills. If you have questions after reviewing the findings and recommendations contained in this report, please do not hesitate 'to contact this office.
