Figure 1) are automatic sprinklers of the frangible bulb type. They are standard response, spray sprinklers that produce a hemi- spherical water distribution pattern below the deflector. The 11.2 K-factor, EL0-231 B Sprinklers were subjected to full-scale, high-piled storage fire tests to qualify their use in lieu of 5.6 or 8.0 K-factor standard spray sprinklers for the protection of high-piled storage. Higher flow rates can be achieved at much lower pressures with the 11.2 K-factor, EL0-231 B Sprinklers, making their use highly advantageous in high density applications, such as the pro- tection of high-piled storage. Wax or lead coatings can be used to extend the life of the copper alloy components used in Series EL0-231 B Sprinklers beyond that which would otherwise be obtained when exposed to corrosive atmospheres. Although wax, lead, and polyester coated sprin- klers have passed the standard corro- sion tests of the applicable approval agencies, the testing is not repre- sentative of all possible corrosive atmospheres. Consequently, it is rec- ommended that the end-user be con- sulted with respect to the suitability of these corrosion resistant coatings IMPORTANT Refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP2300 for warnings pertaining to regulatory and health information. Always refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP700 for the "INSTALLER WARNING" that provides cautions with respect to handling and instal- lation of sprinkler systems and com- ponents. Improper handling and installation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo- nents and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. Page 1 of 6 for any given corrosive environment. The effects of ambient temperature, concentration of chemicals, and gas/ chemical velocity, should be consid- ered, as a minimum, along with the cor- rosive nature of the chemical to which the sprinklers will be exposed. An upright intermediate level version of the Series EL0-231 B Sprinklers for in-rack applications can be obtained by utilizing the Series EL0-231 B Upright Sprinkler with the WSG-2 Guard & Shield, and a pendent intermediate level version of the Series EL0-231 B Sprinklers can be obtained by utilizing the Series EL0-231 B Pendent Sprinkler with the WS-2 Shield. If there is a pos- sibility of the pendent intermediate level version being exposed to mechanical damage, a G-2 Guard can be added. The 11.2 K-factor, Series ELO-2318 Upright and Pendent Sprinklers described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document, as well as with the applica- ble standards of the National Fire Pro- tection Association (NFPA), in addition to the standards of any other authori- ties having jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for main- taining their fire protection system and devices in proper operating con- dition. A leak-tight 3/4 in. NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained by applying a min- imum-to-maximum torque of 1 O to 20 lb-ft_ (13,4 to 26,8 N•m). A leak-tight 1/2 in. NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained by applying a minimum-to- maximum torque of 7 to 14 lb-ft (9,5 to 19,_0 N•m). Higher levels of torque can distort the sprinkler inlet with con- sequent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Notes: Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss of liquid from the bulb. With t~e sprinkler held horizontally, a small a,r bubble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approxi- mately 1/16 in. (1,6 mm) for the 155°F (68°C) to 3/32 in. (2,4 mm) for the 286°F (141°C) temperature ratings. Do not attempt to make up for insuf- ficient adjustment in the escutcheon pla~e by under-or over-tightening the sprmkler. Re-adjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. The Series ELO-231 B Upright and Pendent Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with the following instructions. Note: Pendent sprinklers are to be installed in the pendent position· upright sprinklers are to be installed i/2 the upright position. Step 1. With pipe thread sealant applied to the pipe threads hand- tighten the sprinkler into the ~prinkler fitting. Step 2. Tighten the sprinkler into the spri_nkler fitting using only the W-Type 3 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 2), except that an 8 in. or 10 in. adjustable wrench is to be used for wax-coated sprinklers. With reference to Figure 1, the W-Type 3 Sprinkler Wrench or the adjustable wrench, as applicable, is to be applied to the wrench flats. When installing wax-coated sprinklers with the adjustable wrench, additional care needs to be exercised to prevent damage to the wax coating on the sprinkler wrench flats or frame arms and, consequently, exposure of bare metal to the corrosive environment. The jaws of the wrench should be opened sufficiently wide to pass over the wrench flats without damaging the wax coating. Before wrench-tightening the sprinkler, the jaws of the wrench are to be adjusted to just contact the sprin- kler wrench flats. After wrench-tight- ening the sprinkler, loosen the wrench jaws before removing the wrench. After installation, the sprinkler wrench flats and frame arms must be inspected and the wax coating retouched (repaired) whenever the coating has been damaged and bare metal is exposed. The wax coating on the wrench flats can be retouched by gently applying a heated 1/8 in. diam- eter steel rod to the areas of wax that have been damaged, to smooth it back over areas where bare metal is exposed. Notes: Only retouching of the wax coating applied to the wrench flats and frame arms is permitted, and the retouching is to be performed only at the time of the initial sprinkler installation. The steel rod should be heated only to the point at which it can begin to rr:elt the wax, and appropriate precau- tions need to be taken, when handling the heated rod, in order to prevent the installer from being burned. If attempts to retouch the wax coating with complete coverage are unsuc- cessful, additional wax can be ordered in the form of a wax stick (the end of which is color-coded). Only the correct color-coded wax is to be used, and retouching of wrench flats and frame arms is only permitted at the time of initial sprinkler installation. With the steel rod heated as previ- ously described, touch the rod to the area requiring additional wax with the rod angled downward, and then touch the ~ax stick to the rod approximately 1/2 m. away from the area requiring retouching. The wax will melt and run down onto the sprinkler. Care and Maintenance TYCO Series ELO-231 B 11.2K Standard Response, Standard Coverage Upright and Pendent Sprinklers must be main- tained and serviced in accordance with this section. Before closing a fire protection system control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it con- trols, permission to shut down the affected fire protection system must be obtained from the proper authorities and all personnel who may be affected by this action must be notified. Sprinklers that are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated or other- wise altered after leaving the factory. Modified sprinklers must be replaced. Sprinklers that have been exposed to corrosive products of combustion, but have not operated, should be replaced if they cannot be completely cleaned by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth or by brushing it with a soft bristle brush. Care must be exercised to avoid damage to the sprinklers before during, and after installation. Sprin~ klers damaged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be replaced. Also, replace any sprin- kler that has a cracked bulb or that has lost liquid from its bulb. For additional information, refer to Installation section. Frequent visual inspections are rec- ommended to be initially performed for corrosion resistant sprinklers, after the_ installation has been completed, to verify the long term potential integrity of the sprinkler coatings. Thereafter, annual inspections per NFPA 25 should suffice; however, instead of inspecting from the floor level, a random sampling of close-up visual inspections should be made, so as to better determine the exac~ spri~kler condition and the long term integrity of the corrosion resistant coating, as it may be affected by the corrosive conditions present. The owner is responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and devices in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Associ- ation, such as NFPA 25, in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. APPROVAL STAMP □Approved D Approved as noted D Not approved Remarks: Mechanical-T® Bolted Branch Outlets STYLES 920 AND 920N Victaulic Mechanical-T® Outlet provides a direct branch connection at any location a hole can be cut in pipe. The hole is cut oversize to receive a "holefinder" locating collar which secures the outlet in position permanently. A pressure responsive gasket seals on the pipe O.D. Cross-type connections can be achieved by utilizing two upper housings of the same style and size, with the same or differing branch size connections. NOTE: Style 920 and Style 920N housings cannot be mated to each other to achieve a cross connection. Style 920 and Style 920N Mechanical-T outlets are available with grooved or female threaded outlet. Specify choice on order. Units are supplied painted with plated bolts. Galvanized hous- ings are available, supplied with plated bolts. All sizes of Style 920 and 920N are rated at 500 psi/3450 kPa working pressure on Schedule 10 and 40 carbon steel pipe. They may also be used on high density polyethylene or poly- butylene (HOPE) pipe. Pressure ratings on HOPE are dependent on the pipe rating. Contact Victaulic for ratings on other pipe. Style 920 and 920N are not recommended for use on PVC plastic pipe. Standard piping practices dictate that the Mechanical-T Styles 920 and 920N must be installed so that the main and branch connections are a true 90° angle when permanently attached to the pipeline surface. Additionally, the Vic-Tap II® hole cutting tool, which allows for hole cutting capabilities on pressurized systems, utilizes the Style 920 Mechanical-T in conjunction with the Series 726 Vic-Ball Valve to create the Style 931 Vic-Tap II Mechanical-T unit. Member thickness and edge distance restrictions for installations in the soffit of concrete-filled steel deck assemblies must comply with Figure 5. 4.4 Special Inspection: Special inspection is required in accordance with Section 1705.1.1 and Table 1705.3 of the 2018, 2015 and 2012 IBC, or Section 1704 .15 and Table 1704 .4 of the 2009 I BC. The special inspector must make periodic inspections during anchor installation to verify anchor type, anchor dimensions, concrete type, concrete compressive strength, hole dimensions, drill bit size, anchor spacing, edge distances, concrete thickness, anchor embedment and adherence to the manufacturer's printed installation instructions. The special inspector must be present as often as required in accordance with the "Statement of Special Inspection". 5.0 CONDITIONS OF USE The Snake+ anchors described in this report are suitable alternatives to what is specified in, those codes indicated in Section 1.0 of this report, subject to the following conditions: 5.1 The anchors must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's published installation instructions and this report. In case of conflict, this report governs. 5.2 Anchor sizes, dimensions and minimum embedment depths are as set forth in this report. 5.3 Anchors must be installed in cracked and uncracked normal-weight concrete and lightweight concrete having a specified compressive strength, f 'c, of 2,500 psi to 8,500 psi (17.2 MPa to 58.6 MPa), and cracked and uncracked normal-weight or sand- lightweight concrete over steel deck having a minimum specified compressive strength, f 'c, of 3,000 psi (20.7 MPa). 5.4 The 3/a-inch (9.5 mm) anchors may be installed in the topside of cracked and uncracked normal-weight or sand-lightweight concrete-filled steel deck having a minimum specified compressive strength f'c, of 2,500 psi to 8,500 psi (17.2 MPa to 58.6 MPa). Page 4 of 10 must not exceed 8,000 psi (55.1 MPa); for redundant fastening (nonstructural) the values of f'c used for calculation purposes must equal 2,500 psi (17.2 MPa). 5.6 Strength design values must be established in accordance with Section 4.1 of this report. 5. 7 Allowable stress design values must be established in accordance with Section 4.2 of this report. 5.8 Redundant fastening design values must be established in accordance with Section 4.3 of this report. 5.9 Anchor spacing and edge distance, as well as minimum member thickness, must comply with Table 1 and Figures 4 and 5 of this report. 5.10 Prior to installation, calculations and details demonstrating compliance with this report must be submitted to the code official. The calculations and details must be prepared by a registered design professional where required by the statutes of the jurisdiction in which the project is to be constructed. 5.11 Since an ICC-ES acceptance criteria for evaluating data to determine the performance of screw anchors subjected to fatigue or shock loading is unavailable at this time, the use of these anchors under such conditions is beyond the scope of this report. 5.12 Anchors may be installed in regions of concrete where cracking has occurred or where analysis indicates cracking may occur (ft > f,), subject to the conditions of this report. 5.13 The 3/a-inch-and ½-inch-diameter anchors may be used to resist short-term loading due to wind or seismic forces (Seismic Design Categories A through F under the IBC), subject to the conditions of this report. 5.14 Anchors are not permitted to support fire-resistance- rated construction. Where not otherwise prohibited by the code, anchors are permitted for installation in fire- resistance-rated construction provided that at least one of the following conditions is fulfilled: ■ Anchors are used to resist wind or seismic forces only. ■ Anchors that support gravity load-bearing structural elements are within a fire-resistance-rated envelope or a fire-resistance-rated membrane, are protected by approved fire-resistance-rated materials, or have been evaluated for resistance to fire exposure in accordance with recognized standards. ■ Anchors are used to support nonstructural elements. 5.15 Snake+ anchors must not be removed from concrete and reused . 5.16 Anchors have been evaluated for reliability against brittle failure and found to be not significantly sensitive to stress-induced hydrogen embrittlement. 5.17 Special inspection must be provided in accordance with Section 4.5 of this report. 5.18 Use of anchors is limited to dry, interior locations. 5.19 Anchors are manufactured under an approved quality- control program with inspections by ICC-ES. 6.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED 5.5 The values of f'c used for calculation purposes Data in accordance with the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for 1L1. Thread the appropriate diameter steel threaded rod or threaded bolt into the coupling. The threaded rod or bolt should fully engage the thread length of the coupling on a vertical mount fastener. The threaded rod or threaded portion of the bolt can pass through coupling of a side mount fastener. When installing Hangermate, eye protection should be worn as a safety precaution. For UL and/or FM listings for hangers Steel Hangermate should be installed with a retaining nut for parts that are packaged with a nut (see performance data and listings as applicable). SUggested drill speed for Steel Hangermate installations is 1200 to 1800 rpm. Steel Wood Concrete PERFORMANCE DATA Hangermate for Steel -General Rod Min. llu. II. FM Cit.
