STANDBY BATTERIES (2081-SERIES) -Rechargeable Sealed Lead-Acid -Immobilized Electrolyte -Lead-Calcium Grid Structure -Dual-Seal Design -Low Self-Discharge Characteristics -(Refer to Data Sheet S2081-0006 for Detailed Description) 7 BASIC PROGRAMMABLE OPERATING FUNCTIONS (DIP SWITCH -SELECTABLE IN NON-VOLATILE MEMORY) OFF • System Walk Test 1 [][] • Alarm Verification • Selective Signaling • Waterflow/Sprinkler Supervisory • March Time Code 2 a[] 3 a[] 4 [][] 5 [][] 6 [][] 7[][] 8 a[] SYSTEM WALK TEST-Activating an Initiating Device will cause the Indicating Appliances to signal a Simple Code (Zone Number) without actuating the municipal connection or auxiliary alarm outputs and will then automatically reset. Momentarily opening an Initiating Device Circuit or an Notification Appliance Circuit will cause the Notification Appliances to operate for 4 seconds, thereby testing electrical supervision of the installation wiring. ALARM VERIFICATION -Activation of any smoke detector will cause the Fire Alarm Control panel to begin its Alarm Verification Cycle. The control panel will retard the activation of the alarm for approximately 30 seconds. If during this alarm retard period any smoke detector from another zone or any manual station, heat detector or waterflow switch activates, the alarm will be confirmed. If a second device does not activate during the retard period , the control panel will reset and begin a 120-second confirmation cycle. During the confirmation cycle, should any device activate on any zone, the alarm will activate. Should the verification cycle end without incident, the panel will return to its normal state. SELECTIVE SIGNALLING -The Selective Signal feature provides four special operating modes for the two notification appliance circuits on the CPU. 1. Both circuits on continuously until system is silenced. 2. Notification Appliance Circuit 1 on continuously until system is reset. Circuit 2 will be silenced by the Alarm Silence switch. 3. Notification Appliance Circuit 1 march times until system is reset. Circuit 2 will be silenced by the Alarm Silence switch. 4. Both circuits on continuously until system is reset. WATERFLOW -A waterflow device on Zone 7 activates all Notification Appliance circuits. The Alarm Silence Switch will be disabled for Notification Appliance Circuit 2 while a flow switch is activated on Zone 7; all other circuits are silenceable. 8 ON • Temporal Code • Selective Code • Simple Code • Alarm Silence Inhibit • Indicating Appliance Circuit Cutout • Manual Evacuation SPRINKLER SUPERVISORY -Opening a normally closed gate valve supervisory switch connected to Zone 8 will flash the Zone 8 red LED and continuously activate the tone-alert. Activating the Alarm Silence Switch will silence the tone-alert while maintaining Zone 8 red LED continuously on. Restoring the gate valve supervisory switch to normal will cause the Zone 8 red LED to extinguish. MARCH TIME CODE -Causes the Notification Appliance Circuits to operate at a cadence of 120 or 20 beats per minute. TEMPORAL CODE -Causes the Notification Appliances to pulse .5 second on, .5 second off, .5 second on , .5 second off, .5 second on, 2.5 seconds off, then repeat. SELECTIVE CODE -Removes the latch circuit from Zone 1 to allow for the use of coded Initiating Devices. SIMPLE CODE -Causes the Notification Appliance Circuit to continuously signal the zone number. For example, an activated Initiating Device on Zone 2 causes the Notification Appliances to pulse twice. Zone 3 causes the Notification Appliances to pulse 3 times. Zone 23 causes the Notification Appliances to pulse 2 long, pause and 3 long pulses. ALARM SILENCE INHIBIT -Disables the Signal Silence and System Reset Switches for 1, 3 or 5 minutes. NOTIFICATION APPLIANCE CIRCUIT CUTOUT - Automatically switches off the Alarm Notification Appliances after they have operated for 1 O minutes. MANUAL EVACUATION -Enables the "Manual Evac" switch to activate all Notification Appliance Circuits. EXPANDED SIMPLEX PROGRAMMING (ESP) GENERAL: The use of Expanded Simplex Programming, (ESP) can cause the selective operation of the system's control points as a result of an alarm condition from any of its monitor or sensing circuits. As an example, when an alarm condition is detected from a particular zone or group of zones, it may be required to automatically activate certain signal or control circuits. With ESP, this action occurs because of specific programming instructions stored in the CPU's non-volatile memory. ESP allows the system to be selective in what it will control based on various conditions. A knowledge of computer programming is not required to understand the 4002 ESP. Through the use of a program mode dip switch , the fire alarm control panel will allow for the loading and the editing of ESP codes which reflect the selective operating sequence which may be required. ► SELECTIVE ~ AUTOMATIC SIGNAL AND ► CONTROL FUNCTIONS • PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION NUMBER 4002-8001 4002-8901 --- 4002-6001 4002-6002 4002-7001 4002-7002 --- 4002-5001 * 4002-5002 4002-5003* 4002-5004 4002-4101 4002-3001 4002-3003 4002-3002 4002-0102 4002-0103 4002-0104 4002-0105 4002-011 0** 4002-0111** 4002-0113 4002-0115 4002-0112 4002-0120 4002-0121 2081-9272 2081-9274 2081-9275 2081-9271 4002-1010 4002 FIRE ALARM SYSTEM PROJECT REQUIREMENTS A B DESCRIPTION INDICATE STANDBY NUMBER CURRENT REQ'D. Series Connections: Since these batteries are required to be connected in series to develop 24 V system voltage, battery sets must be of identical voltage, model number, and approximately the same date of manufacture for proper operation. Testing: Battery-capacity testing is recommended to be performed by using a sealed lead-acid battery tester designed to withdraw a minimum of battery charge. The preferred tester applies a variety of amplitude and duration controlled test pulses that compares terminal voltage against those predicted for the specific battery size. (Testing is available through Simplex Service). Disposal: Battery chemicals and materials can be recycled. Refer to information shipped with the battery or on its case. Return to the vendor or to a similarly qualified battery processing facility for proper disposal. Publication S4003-0001 -1 6-94 INTRODUCTION: The Simplex 4003 Voice Control Panel provides voice and tone generation, 75W of amplifier power, four supervised notification appliance (speaker) circuits, and satisfies multiple application requirements. Automatic stand-alone operation is application dependent and easily selected by programming dip switches. Manual operation is accessible by opening the locked cabinet door and revealing operating switches, status LEDs, the local microphone, and the microphone control. Remote microphone operation is secured by use of a keyswitch. A second four circuit NAC card can be installed in the 4003 to power DC notification appliances. It can be operated the same as the standard four circuits or it can be independently controlled by a second NAC from the host panel. APPLICATIONS: Voice/Tone Addition to a Simplex 4020 Series Fire Alarm Control Panel The 4020 Fire Alarm Control Panel digitally communicates with the 4003 via the Remote Unit Interface (RUI) bus. This allows the 4020 to monitor the 4003 status and to control tone and message selection. A dedicated 4020 notification appliance circuit is connected to the 4003 to activate its four NAC speaker outputs. When system WALKTEST is in process, the 4020 will communicate to the 4003 to generate a voice message response to the device tested. For example, activating addressable manual station 075 on an addressable MAPNET 11® circuit on channel one would yield "Testing Channel One, Device Seven Five".* Voice/Tone Addition to Non-Voice Fire Alarm Control Panels The 4003 connects as the end-of-line device to a compatible, dedicated NAC and a compatible, dedicated IDC from the host panel (such as a Simplex model 4001 or 4002). Alarms from the host panel will signal the four, 4003 notification appliance circuits to respond with tones and messages as programmed. The IDC connection monitors 4003 system troubles and allows selection of the manual evacuation message to automatically send an alarm signal to the host panel. An auxiliary power connection allows use of the 4003 panel voltage when required. The alarm response can be customized such as to follow coded inputs with horn or chime tones or to play digitally pre-recorded messages with a programmable combination of digitally generated tones. Alarm Signal Silence and Alarm Reset are performed at the host panel. • MAPNET II addressable communications is protected under U.S. Patent #4, 796,025. 2 Stand-Alone Paging Applications For stand-alone applications, the 4003 provides manual control for microphone announcements or pre-recorded messages. Announcement applications might include instructions concerning: Weather Al8rts, Bomb Threats, and any other Emergency Evacuation. Connection of an initiating device circuit allows a separately mounted fire alarm control panel to monitor for trouble conditions. MODULE FEATURES: Voice Control Module • Internal Dip Switches allow Selection of a Combination of Tones and Messages • Available Audio Tones: -Slow Whoop, starts at 200 Hz and rises to 830 Hz in 2.5s. Recommended for Fire Alarm use only -High/Low, a free running signal with a high frequency of 750 Hz for 0.1 sand a low frequency of 500 Hz for 0.4s -Continuous Horn, 500 Hz tone, can be used for coded signaling -Horn Tone at 120 Beats per Minute -Horn Tone at 20 Beats per Minute -Chime, a 600 Hz tone with a 1.5s delay time, use for coded or free-running signaling -Continuous Bell, a fundamental frequency of 350 Hz with prominent harmonics at 700 Hz and 2100 Hz -Bell Tone at 60 Beats per Minute • Selectable Temporal Code for horn, bell, whoop, and chime tones (1 /2s on, 1 /2s off, 1 /2s on, 1 /2s off, 1 /2s on, 1-1 /2s off) • Standard Digitally Recorded Messages: -Evacuation: "Attention. Attention. Attention. An emergency situation has been detected in this building. Proceed to the nearest exit and leave the building. Do not re-enter the building until directed to do so by the proper authorities". -All Clear: "Attention. You attention please. The building emergency condition has been cleared. You may return to your normal activities". • Custom Digitally Recorded Messages can be Reproduced from High Quality Customer Supplied Tapes, Professionally Recorded to Customer Requirements, or selected from the Simplex Message Library. • Operator Controls: -Manual Evacuation, a momentary switch activation initiates an alarm to a connected fire alarm control panel and activates the programmed evacuation sequence. -All Clear, a momentary switch activation will start and stop the All Clear tone/message. Alarm conditions must be Reset and Silenced at the host panel if connected. VOICE CONTROL MODULE FEATURES (Continued): Operator Controls -Local Microphone Manual Paging: Removing the microphone from its rest position and activating the microphone push-to-talk switch will begin three rounds of chime tones to alert the occupants that a voice message is about to be announced. Motion resistance is provided by breaking an internal plastic break-rod (visible below the pull lever). The pull lever latches into the alarm position and remains extended out of the housing to provide a visible indication of which station was alarmed. Double Action Stations (Breakglass) require the operator to strike the front mounted hammer to break the glass and expose the recessed pull lever. The pull lever then operates as a single action station. Double Action Stations (Push Type) require that a spring loaded interference plate (marked PUSH) be pushed back to access the pull lever of the single action station. Institutional Stations are designed to activate· by key operation only. This allows access for manual alarms to be limited to authorized personnel. Operation requires key insertion and opening of the station housing. Pre-Signal option activates when the lever is pulled. General alarm initiation requires a key to activate a keyswitch located behind the pull lever. Station Reset requires use of the housing key to reset the pull station lever and deactivates the alarm switch. If the break-rod is used, it must be replaced. Breakglass stations require glass replacement. Testing requires physical activation of the pull lever ( except for institutional stations). ,f' 1994 Simplex Time Recorder Co. Stations should be provided on each floor to obtain a travel distance not more than 200 feet (61 m) to the nearest station from any point in the building. One station should be provided for each floor where the maximum floor area is 10,000 square feet (929 sq. meters) or more. The lens assembly fits securely into its housing, providing a high integrity notification appliance that is impact and vandal resistant and suitable for a variety of applications. When multiple visible appliances and their reflections can be seen from one location, synchronized flashes reduce the probability of photo-sensitive reactions. Flash synchronization module 4905-9914 or 4905-9922 will control the observed flashes of synchronized flash models at a rate of 1 Hz using the existing two wire circuit (patent pending). Standard models will operate in a free-running mode even when connected to a synchronized NAC. The efficient switching regulator electronic design provides over-voltage protection for the flash discharge capacitor and ensures. consistent visible notification output. Proper selection of visible notification is dependent on occupancy, location, local codes, and proper applications of: the National Fire Alarm Code (1993 NFPA 72), ANSI A 117.1, the appropriate model building code, BOCA, ICBO, or SBCCI, and the application guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). DESCRIPTION: Simplex 4903 series audible/visible notification appliances are available in three visible intensity levels, with speakers or horns, with rectangular housings in red or off-white, or with round housings in off-white (speakers only). This allows the required notification to be accurately selected for the intended area. These appliances may be either horizontally or vertically wall mounted, or ceiling mounted (round models only), because an exclusive (patent pending) multi-surface reflector is used to provide symmetrical light output in key axis directions. The lens assembly fits securely into its housing, providing a high integrity notification appliance that is impact and vandal resistant and suitable for a variety of applications. When multiple visible appliances and their reflections can be seen from one location, synchronized flashes reduce the probability of photo-sensitive reactions.
