The ZAS-2 Loop Controller Card contains its own microprocessor used to coordinate, process and interpret information re- ceived from and sent to Signature devices. Signature detectors and modules have their own on-board microprocessor communi- cating with the ZAS-2 in a fully digital communication format. This increases the accuracy of the information coming to and from the ZAS-2 loop controller by reducing the effects of capacitance and noise. With decentralized intelligence much of the decision making moves from the loop controller to the devices. Advanced fire detection algorithms processed within the Signature devices effectively end unwanted alarms. Environmental compensa- tion per device, multiple sensing elements and stand alone mode operations are all achieved with distributed intelli- gence. Intelligent devices allow the ZAS-2 to execute com- munication and system functions with greater speed at low baud rates, increasing the accuracy of information transmit- ted between the ZAS-2 and devices. ZAS-2 uses advanced communication formats giving excep- tional response to any device changing state. Using a "BROADCAST POLL" the ZAS-2 checks the whole device circuit for any changes of state. Should one or more devices report a change the ZAS-2 uses "DIRECT ADDRESS SEARCH" to find reporting device(s). Devices which have entered the alarm state or become active are located nearly instantaneously. The ZAS-2's unique use of "BROADCAST POLLING" combined with "DIRECT ADDRESS SEARCH" ensures that only new information is transmitted allowing a slow baud rate with fast response time. The low baud rate reduces susceptibility to line capacitance while increasing tolerance to outside noise glitches. In retrofit applications this allows the use of existing wiring. The ZAS-2 regularly collects and compares individual device information. The ZAS-2 is able to provide information for system sensitivity and mapping reports while supervising the wiring circuit for changes. 85010--0033 1 of 4 lss. 3 The ZAS-2 communicates alarm information to the IRC-3 or FCC controllers. The I RC-3 or FCC controllers activate system modules and instructs the ZAS-2 on which Signature output modules to activate. Every time the ZAS-2 communicates with a detector the een LED on the detector flashes. Normal green led activity not distracting to building occupants, but can be quickly spotted by a maintenance technician. The Red LED on the detector turns on only in the alarm condition. The ZAS-2 communicates with Signature devices over a pair of wires supporting up to 96 line isolators. With 96 detector addresses and 96 module addresses available per circuit up to 192 analog devices install on a circuit. The ZAS-2 circuit supports Class A or Class B wiring. T-Tapping is acceptable anywhere on the ZAS-2 circuit with Class B wiring. Up to 31 T-Taps can be placed on a single ZAS-2 circuit. Total data wire runs of up to 20,000 ft. (6096m) are possible. The ZAS-2 loop controller can recognize 32 individual device trouble codes making service trouble shooting effortless. Class A and Class B wiring configurations, soft addressing of devices, device mapping, automatic day/night sensitivity selection, alarm threshold set points and verification of individual devices are all standard. The ZAS-2 is easily configured using an on board RS-232 jack connected to a laptop computer. Each ZAS-2 module has four on board LEDs used to indicate a TROUBLE condition, ALARM condition, data transmission to the control panel, transmission to the ZAS-2 circuit. Application ZAS-2 mounts in any of the I RC-3 or FCC Controllers (CM 1- SG, CM1 N-SG, CM2N(D)-SG, CM2-SG). ZAS-2 is the ·""lterface between IRC-3 and FCC control panels and the ST Signature series of detectors and modules. The ZAS-2 automatically addresses each detector and module. There are no switches or dials to set. Each device is assigned a unique soft address by the ZAS-2. Once addressing is complete the ZAS-2 provides the inter- face to produce a map of all devices connected to it. The map gives a graphical layout of the ZAS-2 circuit. Branches (T-Taps), device types, addresses and personalities are all shown on the map. Mapping gives a graphic representation of how circuit wiring is physically done. Unexpected addi- tional addresses, missing device addresses and changes to circuit wiring are all supervised through the mapping feature. The ZAS-2 allows the sensitivity setting within devices to be adjusted for day/night operation. As an example, detectors alarm thresholds can be automatically' made to be less sensitive for daytime hours when transient smoke, may be present and automatically adjust to more sensitive at night time enhancing alarm detection. Engineering Specifications The ZAS-2 shall be the interface between IRC-3, FCC systems and EST Signature S~ries devices. The communication format between the ZAS-2 and the devices shall be 100% digital. Communication to devices must incorporate BROADCAST POLLING and DIRECT ADDRESS SEARCH to ensure the fastest reporting of off normal conditions. It shall be possible to wire the ZAS-2 loop controller circuit as Class A (Style 4) or Class B (Style 7) without twisted or shielded wire. It must be possible to wire branch circuits {T- Taps) from Class B circuits. The controller {CM(x)N{D)) through the ZAS-2 shall provide the ability to set the sensitivity and alarm verification of individual detectors on the circuit. It shall be possible to automatically set the sensitivity of individual detectors during day and night periods. The circuit controller shall be manufactured to ISO 9001 standards. It shall be possible for the ZAS-2 to address all devices connected to it without having to set switches at the indi- vidual devices. It shall be possible to obtain a mapping report of all devices connected to the circuit for confirmation of wiring. The map shall show physical wiring of T-taps, device types, and the panel addresses of devices connected to the circuit. The ZAS-2 shall be capable of reporting unexpected additional device addresses, missing device addresses and changes to the wiring in the data circuit. A specific trouble will be re- ported for any off normal non-alarm condition. The ZAS-2 circuit controller shall be able to report: -device serial number -device address -device type -date of manufacture -hours of operation -last maintenance date -current detector sensitivity values and the extent of environmental compensation -original detector sensitivity values upon manufacture -number of recorded alarms and troubles -Analog signal pattern at the time of last alarm -any of 32 possible trouble codes to specifically diagnose faults. Should a ZAS-2 CPU fail to communicate with the devices connected to it for more than 4 seconds the circuit shall go into stand-alone mode. Description The Remote Booster Power Supply is a self-contained 24 Vdc power supply designed to augment fire alarm audible and visual power requirements. The booster contains all of the necessary circuits to monitor and charge batteries, control and supervise four Class B or two Class A NAC circuits and monitor two controlling inputs from external sources. Simple switch selection provides a wide variety of opera- tional configurations. Each remote booster power supply is supplied with its own enclosure providing ample space for additional interface modules an,d battery compartment. The Remote Booster Power Supply is available in either a 6.5 or 10 amp version @ 24 Vdc. Application The Remote Booster Power Supply provides additional power for audible and visual devices when constrained by system capacity or site application. Fault conditions detected by the BPS will open the main panel's NAC. During alarm condition. detected fau lts are overridden and the main panel's default confiauration 1s continuous 24 Vdc on all NACs typically used~to drive 11isua1 devices. The BPS's default output configuration is continuous 24 Vdc on all NACs. This output is typically used to drive vi sual devices. BPS notification appliance circuits easily cqnfigure for any one of three signaling rates: 120 SPM: 3-3-3 temporal: or. continuous. This makes the BPS ideal for applications requiring signaling rates not available from the main panel. It also allows independent setup of a notification appliance circuit without interfering with the main panel and its initiating circuits. In addition to the three generated signal rates. the BPS can also be configured to follow the signal rate of th e main panel's notification appliance circuit. This allows seamless expansion of existing NACs. The BPS includes seven on-board LED indicators: one for each resident NAC; one for battery supervision: one for ground fault; and, one for ac power. The trouble contact has a sixteen second delay when an ac power failure or brownout condition is detected. This reduces the reporting of troubles during short duration ac brownouts. NAC configuration options include: ac power fail delay ( 16 seconds or 6 hours); sensing input to NAC output correla- tions;. and, auxiliary outputs. NAC 3 and 4 are configurable as auxiliary outputs. Auxiliary outputs can be always on, or off after 30 seconds without ac power. They are intelligent analog addressable devices used to connect one or two Class B normally-open Alarm, Supervi- sory, or Monitor type dry contact Initiating Device Circuits (IDC). The function of the SIGA-MM1 and SIGA-WTM is determined by the factory loaded "personality code". The input modules gather analog information from the initiating devices connected to them and convert it into digital signals. The module's on-board microprocessor analyzes the signal and decides whether or not to input afl alarm. The microprocessor in each module provides four additional benefits -Self-diagnostics and History Log, Automatic Device Mapping, Stand-alone Operation and Fast, Stable Communication. Self-diagnostics and History Log -Each Signature Series module constantly runs self-checks to provide important maintenance information. The results of the self-check are automatically updated and permanently stored in the module's non-volatile memory. The loop controller keeps a "map" of the Signature Series devices connected to The Signature Series Data Entry Program also uses the mapping feature. With interactive menus and graphic support, the wired circuits between each device can be examined. Layout or "As-Built" drawing information showing wire branches (T-taps), device types and their address are stored on disk for printing hard copy. This takes the 11mystery11 out of the installation. The preparation of "As-Built" drawings is fast and efficient. Device mapping allows the Signature loop controller to discover: -unexpected additional device addresses. -missing device addresses. -changes to the wiring in the circuit. Stand-alone Operation -A decentralized alarm decision by the module is guaranteed. On-board intelligence permits the module to operate in stand-alone mode. If loop controller CPU communications fail for more than 4 seconds, all deviGes on that circuit go into stand-alcne mode. The circuit acts like a conventional alarm receiving circuit. Each module on the loop continues to collect and analyze information from its slave device and will alarm should their slave device activate. Fast Stable Communication -Built-in intelligence means IP~S information needs to be sent between the module and loop controller. Other than regular supervisory polling ~::sponse, the module only needs to communicate with the loop controller when it has something new to report. This provides very fast control panel response time and allows a lower baud rate (speed) to be used for communication on the circuit. The lower baud rate offers several advantages including: -less sensitivity to circuit wire characteristics. -less sensitivity to noise glitches on the cable. -less emitted noise from the analog wiring. -twisted or shielded wiring is not required. Diagnostic LEDs -Twin LEDs provide visual indication of normal and alarm/active conditions. They are visible only when the front plate is removed. A flasmng GREEN led shows normal system polling from the loop controller. A flashing RED led means the module is in alarm/active state. Both leds on steady shows alarm state -stand-alone mode. Construction -All modules in EST's Signature Series are constructed of high-impact polymer designed to endure the effects of aging. They are finished in white and are identified with front plate markings~"FIRE ALARM MODULE". A self- adhesive French label for the front plate is included to be applied by the installer if desired. Quality and Reliability -EST modules are manufactured in North America to strict international ISO 9001 standards. All electronics utilize surface mount technology (SMT) for smaller size and greater immunity to RF noise. A conformal coating is used for humidity and corrosion resistance. Installation The SIGA-MM1 and SIGA-WTM modules mount to North American 2-1/2" (64 mm) deep 1-gang boxes and 1-1 /2" (38 mm) deep 411 square boxes with 1-gang covers. Analog information from equipment connected to Signature devices is gathered and converted into digital signals. An onboard microprocessor in each Signature device measures and analyzes the signal and decides whether or not to input an alarm. The microprocessor in each Signature device provides four additional benefits -Self-diagnostics and History Log, Automatic Device Mapping, Stand-alone Operation and Fast, Stable Communication. Self-diagnostics and History Log -Each Signature Series device constantly runs self-checks to provide important maintenance information. The results of the self-check are automatically updated and permanently stored in its non- volatile memory. This information is accessible for review any time at the control panel, PC, or using the SIGA-PRO Signature Program/Service Tool. The information stored in device memory includes: • Device serial number, address, and type. • Date of manufacture, hours of ope.ration, and last maintenance date. • Number of recorded alarms and troubles. • Time and date of last alarm. • Up to 32 possible trouble codes which may be used to specifically diagnose faults. Automatic Device Mapping -The Signature Data Controller SOC) learns where each device's serial number address is ,stalled relative to other devices on the circuit. The SOC keeps a "map" of all Signature Series devices connected to it. The Signature Series Data Entry Program also uses the mapping feature. With interactive menus and graphic support, the wired circuits between each device can be examined. Layout or "As- Built'' drawing information showing branch wiring (T-taps), device types and their address are stored on disk for printing hard copy. This takes the 'mystery' out of the installation. The preparation of "As-Built'' drawings is fast and efficient. Device mapping allows the Signature Data Controller to discover: • Unexpected additional device addresses. • Missing device addresses. • Changes to the wiring in the circuit. Most Signature modules use a 'personality code' selected by the installer to determine their actual function. Personality codes are downloaded from the SOC during system configu- ration and are indicated during device mapping. Standalone Operation -A decentralized alarm decision by the device is guaranteed. Onboard intelligence permits the device to operate in standalone (degrade) mode. If Signature loop controller CPU communications fail for more than 4 seconds, all devices on that circuit go into standalone mode. The circuit acts like a conventional alarm receiving circuit. Each Signature device on the circuit continues to collect and analyze information from its slave devices. When connected to a panel utilizing standalone operation, modules with their 'personality' set as alarm devices (IDC) will alarm should their slave alarm-initiating device activate. Fast Stable Communication -Built-in intelligence means less information needs to be sent between the device and the Signature Data Controller (SOC). Other than regular supervi- sory polling response, Signature devices only need to communicate with the SOC when they have something new to report. This provides very fast control panel response and allows a lower baud rate (speed) to be used for communica- tion on the circuit. The lower baud rate offers several advan- tages including: • Less sensitivity to circuit wire characteristics. • Less sensitivity to noise glitches on the cable. • Less emitted noise from the analog wiring. • Twisted or shielded wiring is not required. Diagnostic LEDs -Twin LEDs on most Signature devices provide visual indication of normal and alarm-active condi- tions. A flashing green LED shows normal system polling. A flashing red LED means the module is in alarm-active state. Both LEDs on steady indicates alarm-active state - standalone mode. Matching Integrity Speakers, Chimes, and Strobe combinations are also available. HORN: During installation, the horn is configured for steady or temporal tone signal and either low or high dB output. When temporal output is selected all horns on a common 2-wire circuit are self-synchronized (see specifications). External "sync- control" modules are not required. Integrity Series horns emit a low frequency "growling" tone to really demand attention. Se lect 'high ' output for 98 dBA; choose '/ow' output for 94 dBA. (Average measurement at 1 O feet (3.05 M) in anechoic chamber.) STROBE: EST strobes are self-synchronized to flash at 1 fps across their full operating voltage range. The strobe operates on any existing 2-wire signal circuit. Separately installed "sync- control" modules are not required. A very small portion of the population have a condition which may cause them to t;,ecome disoriented from multiple random flashes of li ght. This risk is minimized with Integrity's strobe. The flash from EST strobes can be noticed from almost any position in the room, corridor, or large open space. The output is controlled using a specially shaped reflector to disperse the light in all viewing directions. EST strobes are UL 1971 listed with both wall and ceiling cd intensity ratings (see Specifications). Doubling the distance from the signal to the ear will theoretically cause a 6 dB reduction in the received sound pressure level. The actual effect depends on the acoustic properties of materials in the space. A 3 dBA difference is a "just noticeable" change in volume. Strobes must be used to supplement audible signals wherever the average ambient sound level exceeds 105 dBA. Combination AudibleNisible signals must be installed per NFPA guidelines established for strobes. Application Notes -CANADA (Based in part on 1995 Canada National Building Code) The fire alarm signal sound pressure level shall not exceed 110 dBA in any normally occupied area. The sound pressure level from an audible signal in a floor area used for occupancies other than residential occupancies shall be not less than 10 dBA above the ambient noise, and never less than 65 dBA. The sound pressure level in sleeping rooms from an audible signal shall not be less than 75 dBA when any intervening doors between the device and the sleeping room are closed. Audible signal devices shall be installed not less than 1 .8 m to the center of the device above the floor (per CAN/ULC S524). The fire alarm audible signal shall be supplemented by fire alarm strobes in any floor area where the ambient noise level exceeds 87 dBA, or where the occupants of the floor area use ear protective devices, are located within an audiometric booth, or are located within sound insulating enclosures. This also applies to assembly occupancies in which music and other sounds associated with performances could exceed 100 dBA.
