Memo ID #2022068
This memorandum provides an update to a previous Council Memorandum dated May 5, 2022,
on the status of maintenance concerns at the Monroe Street Pool facility.
Background
On March 16, 2022, the City Council received a presentation during public comment from a
resident regarding maintenance concerns at the Monroe Street Pool facility. The presentation
included a series of undated photographs taken at and around the Monroe Street Pool facility.
Staff reviewed the photographs and inspected the facility to confirm its condition and begin
addressing the areas that were in need of repair or maintenance attention.
On April 26, 2022, during the Capital Improvement Program {CIP} Workshop, the City Council
directed staff to prioritize maintenance of the facility within the current budget through 2026.
This date is when CIP Project No. 4724, to renovate and expand the facility, is expected to be
completed if a Proposition H ballot measure is approved by voters on a November 2022 general
election ballot.
On May 5, 2022, staff issued a Council Memorandum that outlined the repairs and maintenance
tasks that had been completed and those that were ongoing.
Discussion
Between May 5 and May 25, 2022, the remaining pool plaster rust and tile repairs were
completed. The algae growth in the pool plaster has been treated, and the pool will continue to
receive periodic treatments to address the regrowth. Attachment A shows pictures that were
presented by the resident alongside pictures of the current condition after staff conducted the
repair and maintenance activities.
Next Steps
Staff will continue to monitor and repair or maintain the pool facility as appropriate until further
direction is received. Staff plan to return to the City Council in a future meeting to consider
