GENERAL NOTES
1. The General Contractor shall check and verify all
cond,itions and dimensions at the job site and re-
port any 'errors, omissions or pos6ible discrepan-
cies to the Architect prior to proceeding w_ith the
work. ·
2, Typical notes and details shall apply unless shown
otherwise on these plans.

All materials .and workmanship shall conform to the
requirements of both local and Uniform Building
Code (U.B.C. ).
The Contractor shall provide adequate and safe
braces and connections, to support the component
parts of the structure, until the structure itself
(including floor and roof diaphragms) is complete
enough to support itself.
5. The General Contract or shall report a ny variations
or discrepancies in site conditions or contract
documents to the Architect for clarification.
Proceeding on any phase of the work shall imply
acceptance of the conditions fpr the work in-
tended.
6. It shall be the General Contractor's responsibil-
ity to field verify and locate al .. existing under-
ground utilities in the construction area pri6r to
commencing work. The Contractor shall repair, at
his expense, any utility lines damaged.
HANDICAPPED ACCESS NOTES
WALKS AND SIDEWALKS {SBC. 2-3325)
1 . Surfaces with a slope of less than 6 percent gradient
shall be at least as slip-resistant as that described as a
medium salted finish.
2. surfaces with a slope of 6 percent gradient or greater
shall be slip-resistant.
3, Surface cross slopes shall not exceed 1/4 inch per foot.
4. When the slope in the direction of travel of any walk
exceeds 1 vertical to 20 horizontal it shall comply with
the provisions for Pedestrian Ramps. (Section 2-3307).
5. Abrupt changes in level along any acCessible route shall
not exceed 1/2 inch. When changes in level do occur, they
shall be beveled with a slope no greater than l: 2 except
that level changes not exceeding 1/4 inch may be vertical.
When changes in levels greater than 1/2 inch are necessary
they s:,,.11 comply with the requirements for curb ramps,
6. Walks shall be provided with a level area not less than 60
inches at a door or gate that swings toward the walk, and
not less than 48 inches wide by 44 inc'(ef' deep at a door
or gate that swings away from the walk. Such walks shall
extend 24 inches to the side of the strike edge of a door
or gate that swings toward the walk .
DOORS & HM\DWARE (SEC . 2-3301, 3304)
1. Hand activated door opening hardware shall be centered
between 30 inches and 44 inches above the floor . Latch-
ing and locking doors ·that are hand activated and which
are in a path of travel, shall be operable with a single
e ffort by lever type hardware, by panic bars, push-pull
activating bars, or other hardware designed to provide
passage without requiring the ability to grasp the open-
ing ~ardware. Locked exit doors shall operate as above
i n ~gress direction.
2. Wi dth and Heights. 1. Every requi.red exit doorway
shall be of a size as to permit the installation of a
door not less than 3 feet in width and not less than 6
feet, 8 inches in height. When installed in exit door-
ways, exit doors shall be capable of opening at least 90
degrees and shall be so mounted that the clear width of
the exitway is not less than 32 inches.
3 . · Maximum effort to operate doors shall not exceed 8.5 lb.
for exterior doors and 5 lb. for interior doors, such
pull or push effort being applied at right angles to
hinged doors and at the center plane of sliding or fold-
4 . ing doors. Compensating devices or automatic door oper-
ators may be utilized to meet the above standards. When
fire doors are required, the maximum effort to operate
the door may be increased not to exceed 15 lb.
WATER CLOSE~r, (SEC. 5-1502)
1. The height of accessible water closets shell be a mini-
mum of 17. inches and a maximum of 19 inches measured to
the top of the toilet seat. Flush controls shall be
operable by an oscillating handle with a maximum operat-
ing force of 3 lb. or by a remote low ,voltage button .
-The handle or button shall be located so they are oper-
able without requiring excessive body movement.

NOTES
The permit applicant shall retain the design engineer or architect of record or other
responsible engineer approved by the Building Official to ensure th.at:
1, all elements of construction which require special inspection are inspected by
qualified deputy inspectors approved by the Building Official; and
2. all code deficiencies detected and deviations from the approved plans are broUght to
the attention of the contractor for correction, and if not corrected, revised designs
to overcome the deficiency shall be prepared by the design engineer or architect of
record for approval by the Building Official; and
3. all co:c"te·ctive work required is completed in accordance with the approved plans,
specifications, and City adopted codes.
A final inspection report, signed by the special inspector iY).9. the responsible engineer,
is submitted to the Building Official upon the completion of each element re4uiring
special inspection. The report must.certify that the work was in compliance with the
approved plans, spe~ifications and applicable City codeS including any authorized changes
to the plans.
