Background The City of Carlsbad prepares an annual State of the City video summarizing recent accomplishments and future plans. The video is shown at a city-hosted event at the Schulman Auditorium and an event hosted by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. The details for this year's events are as follows: State of the City Hosted by the City of Carlsbad Monday, Aug. 15 5:30 to 7 p.m. Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium 1775 Dove Lane State of the Community Hosted by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Friday, Aug. 19 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (time is tentative) Location to be announced Video theme This year will mark the City of Carlsbad's 70th birthday. Following 35 years of managed growth, the city is looking to the future with a new strategic plan that continues to build on the community's vision. This story will be told, in part, through interviews with a variety of community members, including some who are longtime residents and others who have recently arrived. Likewise, interviews will feature residents of a variety of ages and stages of life. The city-hosted event will be promoted through all city communication chann_els, including media, social media, fliers, ads and email. An event program will be provided to the City Council in early August. Similar to previous years, each City Council member will be provided an opportunity to make brief remarks followed by an opportunity for the public to interact and ask questions of City Council members and staff during a courtyard reception following the video presentation and remarks. cc: Celia Brewer, City Attorney Geoff Patnoe, Assistant City Manager
