Dear Dr. Baker:
SITE INSPECTION -Addendum I
Proposed Residential Building Site
3039 Jefferson Street
City of Carlsbad
Lakeside, California

Temporary shoring and safety is the general contractor's responsibility. The designer should
design the shoring to meet the safety of design load, integrity of the existing structure and
ultimately meet the OSHA's design safety quid line. And the design should be compatible to
the recommended soil design parameters, including: Surface Drainage, Static, Dynamic
Active load, Seismic Load and surcharge load, Passive load and frictional coefficient, mu. If
the Passive + Frictional Resistance for sliding resistance is used, then only 1/2 of passive for
the permanent design should be used.
The surcharge from adjacent structures can be calculated as follows with q to be determined
by the structure design engineer.

3. DRAINS, AS RECOMMENDED IN THE RETAINING WALL DRAINAGE
DETAIL SHOULD BE INSTALLED BEHIND THE RETAINING WALL.
4. DYNAMIC LATERAL EARTH PRESSURE RESULTANT IS BASED ON
THE 2012 IBC.
5. HAND DARE IN FEET.
6. SETBACK SHOULD BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE 2012 IBC.
