G2123-11-02 Sf Moving 1Coll Actuato,rs Project No. G2123-11-02 March 16, 2021 SMAC Corporation 5807 Van Allen Way Carlsbad, California 92008 Attention: Mr. Jim Sibold Subject: FINAL REPORT OF TESTING AND OBSERVATION SERVICES PERFORMED DURING SITE IMPROVEMENTS SMAC BUILDING CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA References: 1. Final Report of Testing and Observation Services During Site Grading, SMAC Building, prepared by Geocon Incorporated, dated February 6, 2020 (Project No. G2123-11-02). 2. Grading Plans for SMAC, Lot 75 Van Allen Way, Carlsbad, California, prepared by KARN Engineering and Surveying, Inc., City of Carlsbad approval date November 20, 2019. Dear Mr. Sibold: In accordance with the request of Mr. Jason Edwards with Goods and Roberts, your general contractor, we provided compaction testing and observation services during the installation of site improvements at the subject project. We performed our services during site improvements during the period of February 12, 2020 through March 9, 2021. The scope of our services included: Performing in-place density tests on an “on-call” basis during minor grading operations and utility trench backfill operations including electrical trench, fire service, irrigation trench, joint trench, plumbing trench, storm drain, sewer main and water lateral. Performing in-place density tests during the preparation of subgrade for curb/gutter, sidewalk, and during the placement of aggregate base and asphalt concrete pavement. Providing geotechnical consultation services during improvement operations. Performing laboratory tests to aid in evaluating the compaction characteristics of soil conditions encountered and/or used for fill, including asphalt concrete and base materials. Preparing this final report of improvements. We performed in-place density tests using a nuclear density gauge in accordance with ASTM Test Procedures D 6983 and D 2950 for soil and asphalt concrete, respectively. Table I summarizes the results of the in-place density tests. We performed laboratory tests on soil and aggregate base samples in accordance with ASTM Test Procedures D 1557 (Maximum Dry Density and Optimum Moisture Content). We performed laboratory tests on asphalt concrete samples in accordance with ASTM Test Procedures D 2726 (Hveem Density), D 2041 (Theoretical Maximum Density), D 1560 (Stability), D 6307 (Asphalt Content) and C 136 (Sieve Analysis). Tables II through IV present the results of the laboratory testing. We tested a sample of asphalt concrete to check conformance with Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook). The results of the laboratory tests indicate the sample of asphalt concrete is in general conformance as presented in Tables III and IV. In general, the results of the in-place density tests indicate utility trench backfill, curb and gutter, and sidewalk subgrade materials possess a dry density of at least 90 percent of the laboratory maximum dry density near to slightly above optimum moisture content at the locations tested. In-place density test results indicate that the driveway subgrade and aggregate base materials possess a dry density of at least 95 percent of the laboratory maximum dry density near to slightly above optimum moisture content at the locations tested. In-place density test results indicate that the asphalt concrete possesses a density 95 percent of the Hveem density. Based on observations and test results, we opine the construction of site improvements, which is the subject of this report has been performed in substantial conformance with the recommendations of the project geotechnical report. Additional improvement installation performed at the site should be accomplished in conjunction with our observation and testing services. This office should be notified at least 48 hours prior to commencing additional grading or backfill operations. Adequate drainage provisions are imperative. Under no circumstances should water be allowed to pond adjacent to improvements. Finish grades should be established so that drainage water is directed away from pavements, curb/gutters, and sidewalks to controlled drainage services. Irrigation of landscape areas adjacent to pavements should be monitored to provide just enough water to support plant life. Geocon Project No. G2123-11-02 - 3 - March 16, 2021 Should you have any questions regarding this correspondence, or if we may be of further service, please contact the undersigned at your convenience. The curve no. is adjusted for the percentage of ¾ inch rock in accordance with ASTM D 4718 or Woodward Clyde guidelines.TEST NO. PREFIXTEST NO. RE.Retest of previous density test failure following additional moisture conditioning or recompactionFill in area of density test was removed during construction operationsCURVE NO.Corresponds to the curve numbers presented in the summary of the laboratory maximum dry density and optimum moisture content test results. The field representative selected the curve no. based on the laboratory test results and field observationsELEVATION OR DEPTHCorresponds to the elevation or the depth, in feet, of the in-place density/moisture content test. The value has been rounded to the nearest whole foot 0GEOCO TABLE II SUMMARY OF LABORATORY TEST RESULTS Project Name:SMAC Building Rock Correction: Project No.:G2123-11-02 Curve No. Description Max.
