HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-07-26; City Council; Resolution 2022-197RESOLUTION NO. 2022-197 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE FINAL DESIGN CONCEPT BY ARTIST MARY CARTER TAUB FOR PERMANENT PUBLIC ART AT FIRE STATION 2, CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM PROJECT NO. 4060 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California has determined that one percent of every new Capital Improvement Program Project will be allocated to public art to enhance the project; and WHEREAS, a total budget of $130,000 has been identified for permanent public art at Fire Station 2, Capital Improvement Program Project No. 4060, including $26,000 for the design agreement, $90,000 for the fabrication agreement and the remaining $14,000 for the installation of the artwork as part of the Capital Improvement Program Project budget; and WHEREAS, artist Mary Carter Taub was selected following a public art process to design a glass artwork installation for the newly rebuilt Fire Station 2; and WHEREAS, 61 percent of the community feedback supports the final design concept by artist Mary Carter Taub; and WHEREAS, on May 5, 2022, the Carlsbad Arts Commission confirmed their support of the final design concept by artist Mary Carter Taub in a memo to the City Council; and WHEREAS, the final design concept will be the first glass artwork installation in the city, and will create a gateway in south Carlsbad and an enhanced sense of place in the community; and WHEREAS, the city's Art in Public Places Program guidelines require City Council approval of the final design concept. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1.That the above recitations are true and correct. 2.That the City Council approves the final design concept by Artist Mary Carter Taub, attached and incorporated as Attachment A, for permanent public art at Fire Station 2, Capital Improvement Program Project No. 4060.
