APPLICATIONS
The following example illustrates the information that is required for all pole, monument, and
freestanding sign permit applications. Prior to approval, all such proposed signs must be reviewed
· for potential issues by the Transportation Department, which will not allow signs to be approved
over the counter. Additional time will be required for on-site inspection. ·

Relationship to Streets: Signs shaU be designed and located so as not to. interfere with the
unobstructed clear view of the public right-of-way and nearby traffic regulatory signs of any
pedestrian, bicyclist or motor vehicle driver.

Review Committee
The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) of the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC) has
reviewed your re-submitted set of plans for a monument sign at your prope11y located at 161 O
Faraday A venue on lot 99 of the CRC.
The re-submitted plans showing a new location for a single monument sign are generally consistent with
the CRC Design Guidelines. The new proposed sign location is not directly adjacent to the entry
driveway on the west side of your property. This is due to the fact that there are underground fiber-optic
cables as well as CRC common area trees closer to the driveway than where the sign is being proposed.
Because of these unique circumstances, the ARC feels that the proposed sign location is adequate.
Additionally, after communicating with Michael Wiese from Reprohaus Corp. the ARC was notified
that Reprohaus had already poured a monument sign footing before the CRC had a chance to review the
sign application in an incorrect location (does not observe required 20 foot setback from curb).
Therefore the updated plans are considered APPROVED, with the condition that the existing incorrectly
located monument sign footing will first need to be removed, properly back-filled and the turf repaired
before the new correctly placed sign footing is installed. The Turf must be replaced with West Coaster
Fescue sod available from West Coast Sod, or Marathon One sod available from Southland Sod. The
CRC will inspect the turf2 I-days after installation to assure that it has become fully established.
Please note that per the CRC Design Guidelines section 6.5.1.a; Single tenant hui/dings shall be allowed
either a wall OR ground mounted sign. Thus with this monument sign approval you have the maximum
allowable signage for your lot.
You may proceed with the construction and installation of your sign once a sign permit is
obtained from the City of Carlsbad. Please forward a copy of your City sign permit to:
