SOIL AND FOUNDATION ENGINEERING • GROUNDWATER • ENGINEERING GEOLOGY 21 November 2019 Sadri and Rose Akin 8839 Badger Way Elk Grove, CA 95624 Job No. 19-12322 Subject: Addendum to Report of Preliminary Geotechnical Investigation Akin Residence 5290 Carlsbad Boulevard Carlsbad, California Dear Mr. and Mrs. Akin, In accordance with the request of your architect Mr. Tim Martin, we have reviewed item A.2., Building Surface and Subgrade Preparation as presented on page 24 of our "Report of Preliminary Geotechnical Investigation," dated July 3, 2019. Within item A.2., we state " ... at least the upper 2 ½ feet of pad fill and top soils should be reworked and recompacted." Based on review of our four exploratory excavations that reveal the upper 1 to 2½ feet of surficial soils to consist of silty sands that are uniformly underlain by adequate bearing medium dense to dense Old Paralic (marine terrace) deposits (Qop6-7 ), we are able to provide an alternative for site soil preparation. In our opinion, the 1 to 2½ feet of surficial soil can be adequately compacted with removal of the upper 1 foot of fill soil followed by use of a walk- behind vibratory roller, or similar soil compaction equipment, on the exposed surface of the excavation. Upon verification of bearing adequacy by field density testing, the removed upper 1- foot of fill soil can be replaced and compacted to the design finished grade. Verification that soils have been compacted to 90% of maximum dry density must be provided by the project geotechnical engineer. 7420 TRADE STREET• SAN DIEGO, CA. 92121 • (858) 549-7222 • FAX: (858) 549-1604 • EMAIL: geotech@gei-sd.com Akin Residence Carlsbad, California C Job No. 19-12322 Page 2 If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact our office.
