It provides capabilities that exceed most large intelligent systems at a cost comparable to conventional control systems. Field programming can be accomplished in three different ways: AUTO-PROGRAM - The AUTOPULSE IQ-301 system identifies all devices that are connected, determines the type of device, and loads default values (general alarm) into non-volatile memory. This is completed in less than 30 seconds. ON-LINE EDIT - While still providing fire protection, the AUTOPULSE IQ-301 sys- tem program may be completely edited from the front keyboard. Menu trees per- mit easy change of any parameter without referral to the programming manual. New program check routine catches common errors. OFF-LINE PC - The complete AUTOPULSE IQ-301 system program may be created in an off-line PC com- patible computer, then loaded into the AUTOPULSE IQ-301 RS-232 port. The program may also be off-loaded to a PC at any time. High speed data transfer com- pletes upload or download in less than one minute. APPLICATION The AUTOPULSE IQ-301 control system is ideal for industrial, commercial, and institu- tional facilities where an analog addressable control system is needed to detect fire, and if required, actuate a fixed fire suppression system. In addition this system can be used as a combination fire/burglary and burglary system, critical process monitoring, and tor- nado warning. Analog smoke detector sensi- tivity is monitored by the control unit which will indicate a special trouble condition if the detectors sensitivity moves outside the listed range. All devices can be installed on the single addressable loop with up to 99 analog addressable detectors and 99 addressable modules for conventional smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual pull stations, super- visory switches, alarm devices, releasing devices, and relays. The control unit can be programmed to provide the specific operating sequence required for the project. Detectors can be programmed to operate as single zone or cross zoned for controlling agent release with time delays and abort capabilities. The control system is listed by UL and ULC and approved by FM and com- plies with NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm Code and should be installed in accordance with NFPA 70, National Electrical Code. The control system also meets the require- ments of the various standards for fire sup- pression systems including: NFPA 11, Foam Extinguishing Systems; NFPA hA, Medium and High Expansion Foam Systems; NFPA 12, Carbon Dioxide Systems; NFPA 12A, Halon 1301 Systems; NFPA 13, Sprinkler Systems; NFPA 15, Water Spray Systems; NFPA 16, Foam/Water Deluge and Foam/ Water Spray Systems; NFPA 17, Dry Chemical Systems; NFPA 17A, Wet Chemical Systems; NFPA 2001, Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems. The add ressability of the FSP-851 detector enables the con- trol unit to provide firefighters with a pinpoint description of where the fire is located. The control unit is capable of not only knowing the detector's location but also exactly how much smoke is in the chamber of the detector. The detector may be set for different sensitivity settings appropriate to the environment of its location. Analog devices continually send obscuration values to the AUTOPULSE control unit. These values may be gathered so as to allow the control unit to determine if a detector has accumulated an excessive amount of dirt or dust. A "main- tenance" required indication allows the installer to clean the smoke detector before an unwanted false alarm occurs. Description The FSP-851 Intelligent Photoelectric Sensor's unique opti- cal sensing chamber is designed with superior signal to noise ratio. The optical chamber is engineered to sense the presence of smoke produced by a wide range of ccmbus- tion sources. The FSP-851 can be used to replace the SDX-751 or FSP-751 in existing systems. FlashScan (U.S. Patent 5,539,389) is a new communication protocol that greatly enhances the speed of communication between analog intelligent devices. Intelligent devices com- municate in a grouped fashion. If one of the devices within the group has new information, the panel's CPU stops the group poll and concentrates on single points. The net effect is response speed greater than five times that of earlier designs. ARE ND, Senior Deputy Program Manager ANSUL® Detection and Control Components I I FMM-101 Monitor Module I. Features Built-in type identification automatically identifes this device as a monitor module to the AUTOPULSE control unit Powered directly by two-wire FACP, no additional power required High noise (EMF/RFl) immunity Tinned, stripped leads for ease of wiring Direct-dial entry of address (O1159)* FlashScan TM communication protocol Applications Use the FMM-101 module to monitor a single devbe or a zone of four-wire smoke detectors, manual fire alarm pull stations, waterflow devices, or other normally-open cry-con- tact devices. May also be used to monitor normally-open supervisory devices with special supervisory indicatiorl at the AUTOPULSE 10-301 or IQ-396X control unit. Monitored cir- cuit/device is wired as an NFPA Style B (Class B) Initiating Device Circuit. A 47K ohm End-of-Line Resistor (provided) terminates the circuit. The FMM-101 monitor module can be installed in a single- gang junction directly behind the monitored unit. Its small size and lightweight allow it to be installed without rigid mounting. The FMM-101 is intended for use in intelligent, two-wire systems where the individual address of each mod- ule is selected using rotary switches. It provides a two-wire initiating device circuit for normally-open-contact fire alarm and security devices. Description The FMM-101 is a miniature monitor module used to super- vise a Class B (Style B) circuit. Its compact design allcws the FMM-101 to often be mounted in a single-gang box behind the device it is monitoring. The FMM-101 can be used to replace MMX-101 module, Part No. 417478, in existing sys- tems. Each FMM-1 01 uses one of 159* available module address- es on an SLC loop. It responds to regular polls from the con- trol panel and reports its type and the status (open/normal/short) of its Initiating Device Circuit (IDC). FlashScan (patent pending) is a new communication proto- col that greatly enhances the speed of communication between analog intelligent devices. Intelligent devices com- municate in a grouped fashion. If one of the devices within the group has new information, the unit's CPU stops the group poll and concentrates on single points. The net effect is response speed greater than five times that of earlier designs. 01-99 with AUTOPULSE 10-301 and 10-396X ANSUL and AUTOPULSE are trademarks olAnsul Incorporated or its affiliates. 1415 1 ADDRESS 0 I TENS ONES a Ui 004757 Technical Information Nominal Operating Voltage: ................ 15 to 32 VDC Average Operating Current: ........... 375 pA (maximum) EOL Resistance: ........................... 47K ohms Temperature Range: ....... 32 OF to 120 °F ( 0 °C to 49 °C) Humidity Range: ............10% to 93% non-condensing Wiring Length: .................6 in. The disconnec- tion of the supervision provides a positive indication to the panel that the control relay actually turned ON. The external power supply is always relay isolated from the communica- tion loop so that a trouble condition on the external power supply will never interfere with the rest of the system. A REND, Senior Deputy Program Manager I INERGEN 150-BAR SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS jIJU INERGEN agent is a mixture of three naturally occurring gases: nitro- gen, argon, and carbon dioxide. As INERGEN agent is derived from gases present in the earth's atmosphere, it exhibits no ozone depleting potential, does not contribute to global warming, nor does it contribute unique chemical species with extended atmospheric lifetimes. Because INERGEN agent is composed of atmospheric gases, it does not pose the problems of toxicity associated with the chemically derived Halon alternative agents. The INERGEN Fire Suppression System, manufactured by ANSUL, is an engineered system utilizing a fixed nozzle agent distribution network. The system is designed and installed in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 2001, "Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems." When properly designed, the INERGEN system will extinguish surface burning fire in Class A, B, and C hazards by lowering the oxygen content below the level that supports combustion. INERGEN agent has also been tested by FMRC for inerting capabilities. Those tests have shown that INERGEN agent, at design concentrations between 40% and 50%, has successfully inerted mixtures of propane/air, and methane/air. The system can be actuated by detection and control equipment for automatic system operation along with providing local and remote manual operation as needed. Accessories are used to provide alarms, ventilation control, door closures, or other auxiliary shutdown or functions. When INERGEN agent is discharged into a room, it introduces the proper mixture of gases that will allow a person to breathe in a reduced oxygen atmosphere. A system installation and maintenance manual is available containing information on system components and procedures concerning design, operation, inspection, maintenance, and recharge. The system is installed and serviced by authorized distributors that are trained by the manufacturer. Basic Use - The INERGEN system is particularly useful for suppressing fires in hazards where an electrically non-conductive medium is essen- tial or desirable; where clean-up of other agents present a problem; or where the hazard is normally occupied and requires a non-toxic agent. The following are typical hazards protected by INERGEN systems: Computer rooms Subfloors Tape storage Telecommunication/Switchgear Vaults Process equipment All normally occupied or unoccupied electronic areas where equip- ment is either very sensitive or irreplaceable Composition and Materials - The basic system consists of extinguish- ing agent stored in high strength alloy steel cylinders. Various types of actuators, either manual or automatic, are available for release of the agent into the hazard area. The agent is distributed and discharged into the hazard area through a network of piping and nozzles. Each nozzle is drilled with a fixed orifice designed to deliver a uniform discharge to the protected area. On large hazards, where three or more cylinders are required, a screwed or welded pipe manifold assembly is employed. The cylinder(s) is connected to the distribution piping or the manifold by means of a flexible discharge bend and check valve assembly. Additional equipment includes - Control panels, releasing devices, remote manual pull stations, comer pulleys, door closures, pressure trips, bells and alarms, and pneumatic switches. All or some are required when designing a total system. INERGEN Agent - INERGEN agent is a mixture of three inerting (oxygen diluting) gases: 52% nitrogen, 40% argon, and 8% carbon dioxide. INERGEN gas extinguishes fire by lowering the oxygen content below the level that supports combustion. When INERGEN agent is discharged into a room, it introduces the proper mixture of gases that still allow a person to breathe in a reduced oxygen atmosphere. It actu- ally enhances the body's ability to assimilate oxygen. The normal atmos- phere in a room contains 21% oxygen and less than 1% carbon dioxide. If the oxygen content is reduced below 15%, most ordinary combustibles will cease to burn. INERGEN agent will reduce the oxygen content to approximately 12.5% while increasing the carbon dioxide content to about 3%. The increase in the carbon dioxide content increases a person's respiration rate and the body's ability to absorb oxygen. Simply stated, the human body is stimulated by the carbon dioxide to breathe more deeply and rapidly to compensate for the lower oxygen content of the atmosphere. Cylinders - The cylinders are constructed, tested, and marked in accor- dance with applicable Dept. of Transportation (DOT) and the U.S. Bureau of Explosives specifications. As a minimum, the cylinders must meet the requirements of DOT 3AA2300 or 3AA2015+. Cylinder Assembly - The cylinder assembly is of steel construction with a red standard finish. Four sizes are available to meet specific needs. Each is equipped with a pressure seat-type valve equipped with gauge. The valve is constructed of forged brass and is attached to the cylinder providing a leak tight seal. The valve also includes a safety pressure relief device which provides relief at 2900-3300 psi (20685-23167 kPA) per CGA test method. Cylinder charging pressure is 2175 psi at 70 OF (14997 kPA at 21 °C). The cylinders are shipped with a maintenance record card and shipping cap attached. The cap is attached to the threaded collar on the neck of each cylinder to protect the valve while in transit. The cylinder serial number and date of manu- facture are stamped near the neck of each cylinder. Electric Actuator - Electric actuation of an agent cylinder is accom- plished by an electric actuator interfaced through an AUTOPULSE® Control System. This actuator can be used in hazardous environments where the ambient temperature range is between 32 OF and 130 OF (0 "C and 54 "C). In auxiliary or override applications, a manual lever actuator can be installed on top of the actuator. Manual or Pneumatic Actuators - Manual/pneumatic actuators are available for lever actuation on the cylinder valve. Manual actuation is accomplished by pulling the hand lever on the actuator. Detection System - The AUTOPULSE Control System is used where an automatic electronic control system is required to actuate the INERGEN system. This control system is used to control a single fixed fire suppression or alarm system based on inputs received from fire detection devices. The detection circuits can be configured using cross, counting, independent or priority-zone (counting) concepts. The control system has been tested to the applicable FCC Rules and Regulations for Class A Computing devices. Nozzles— Nozzles are designed to direct the discharge of INERGEN agent using the stored pressure from the cylinders. Ten sizes of nozzles are available. The system design specifies the nozzle and orifice size to be used for proper flow rate and distribution pattern. The nozzle selec- tion depends on the hazard and location to be protected. Pressure Reducer - The pressure reducer is required in the distribution piping to restrict the flow of INERGEN agent, thus reducing the agent pressure down stream of the reducer. The pressure reducer contains a stainless steel orifice plate which is drilled to the specific size hole required based on the hydraulic calculation. The orifice plate provides readily visible orifice identification. The pressure reducer is available in nine sizes: 1/2 in., 3/4 in., 1 in., 1 1/4 in., 1 1/2 in., 2 in., 2 1/2 in., 3 in., and 4 in. NPT. I Pipe and Fittings - The system manifold must be constructed of Schedule 80 or 160 piping and 2000 or 3000 psi iron fittings, threaded or welded. The distribution piping down stream from the orifice union must be constructed of a minimum of Schedule 40 piping with class 300 malleable iron threaded fittings or welded steel fittings. All piping must be black iron of the following type and grade: ASTM A-53 seamless or electric resistance welded, grade A or B, or ASTM A-106 grade A, B, or C. Do not use ASTM A-120, ASTM A-53 type F or ordinary cast iron pipe or fittings. Limitations -The INERGEN system must be designed and installed within the guidelines of the manufacturer's design, installation, operation, inspection, recharge, and maintenance manual. The ambient temper- ature limitations are 32 OF to 130 OF (-0 °C to 54 °C). All AUTOPULSE Control Systems are designed for indoor applications and for tempera- ture ranges between 32 OF and 120 OF (0 °C and 49 °C). Applicable Standards: The INERGEN system complies with NFPA Standard 2001, Standard for Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems, and EPA Program SNAP, Significant New Alternate Policy. I Agent is listed and approved by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) and Factory Mutual (FM). I All system components and accessories must be installed by personnel trained by the manufacturer. All installations must be performed accord- ing to the guidelines stated in the manufacturer's design, installation, operation, inspection, recharge, and maintenance manual. This can be accomplished by direct manual actuation of its pull lever or cable actuation when used in conjunction with a remote manual pull station. When used with a remote manual pull station, the pull station must contain the com- ponents necessary to meet the actuator lever traveling requirements of 7 in. (178 mm). The actuator is shipped with ring pin and chain attached. If the ring pin is not required, it must be removed. Failure to remove the ring pin/chain assembly will prevent system actuation if a remote cable pull actuation system is employed and the ring pin is accidentally installed in the actuator. Four actuators are available. Each is designed for a specific component. * Add 1 9/16 in. (3.9 cm) to height when lever is in the straight up position. This has been acheved t-irough the combination of approved LaserPLUS detection technology, dual-stage air filtration technology and a modified aspirator design incorporated into , a smaller enclosure with a simplified display. LaserCOMPACT is available in two versions, one that interfaces via relays only (RO) or via the relays and VESDAnet (VN). Description The LaserCOMPACT is made up of two parts: the main enclosure and the front cover. The main enclosure houses all the key components of the detector. All non- serviceable items like the main processor board and detector chamber are mounted away from the general access area, protecting them durng the installation and service process. The main enclosure iicludes: I Laser Detection Chamber I Main processor board with integrated flow sensor card 4 Single air inlet port with air flow monitoring device I Termination Card supporting three relays - Fire - Pre-alarm - Alert/Fault (including Service and Isolate) The card also includes power connections and VESDAnet communication connection on the (VN) version I LaserCOMPACT Aspirator I Dual-Stage Air Filter Cartridge I Air Exhaust Port The front cover supports: 4 5 LED's: - Fire, Pre-Alarm/Alert, Fault, OK, Reset/Isolate I Reset/Isolate Push Button (press to reset, press and hold to isolate) How It Works Air is continually drawn through a simple pipe network to a central detector by a high efficiency aspirator. Air entering the unit passes a flow sensor before a sample is passed through a dual-stage dust filter (the majority of air is exhausted from the detector and where required back vented to the protected area). The first stage removes dust and dirt from the air sample before it enters the chamber for smoke detection. The second ultra fine stage provides a clean air supply to be used inside the detection chamber to form clean air barriers, which protect the optical surfaces from contamination. The detection chamber uses a stable, highly efficient laser light source and unique sensor configuration to achieve the optimum response to a wide range of smoke types. When smoke passes through the detection chamber it creates light scatter which is detected by the very sensitive sensor circuitry. The status of the detector, all alarms, service and fault events, are monitored and logged with time and date stamps. Status reporting can be transmitted via simple relay connections or across the advanced VESDAnet communications network (VN version only). I V "7=" , C_ :A '\ Lase rC.Q M PACTTTM........! The Concept The quality of VESDA pipe has been specifi- cally chosen to surpass the requirements for most systems and aims to provide: A "one-stop" shopping for detector, pipe and fittings - thus saving procurement time and costs An easy and professional installation A competitive solution, including a Fast- Track ordering and delivery service Committed customer service with full technical advice and support on design and installation Design verification using the very latest VESDA aspirating smoke detection is an early warning system that detects fire in the incipi- ent stages - before flames are visible - by detecting the products of pre-combustion in the air around the area about to ignite. VESDA Laser family is the result of extensive research and development. Using unique detection principles, the detector provides a sensitivity range of 0.0015 to 6% obscura- tion/ft. It detects fire at the earliest possible stage and reliably measures very low to extremely high concentrations of smoke. The VESDA system samples air from a fire zone for the presence of smoke. The air sampling system makes this possible by providing the means for transporting air from a fire zone to the detector. The air sampling system is active, continuous- ly drawing in air samples by means of an inte- gral pump. It does not rely on air or heat cur- rents in the vicinity of the detector transport- ing the smoke particles to the detector. The VESDA system can function effectively in all kinds of environment from high air flows to still air. The network of sampling pipes to the detector is the key element in the performance of the detection system. I Iii I I I Air Sampling Three basic sampling methods can be used in a VESDA system installation: Standard pipe sampling systems (below ceiling; in ceiling or floor void) Capillary tube sampling (concealed; above ceiling: within cabinets) Return air sampling (within duct; return air grille) While each sampling method is suited to spe- cific applications, more than one method is often effectively employed to monitor a fire zone. In some applications - particularly those in which there is movement of high volumes of air - the most effective sampling network generally combines two methods to provide maximum coverage to a zone under all oper- ating conditions. System Descriotion VESDA piping systems are produced from spe- cialty thermoplastics that offer unique benefits. Piping systems are lightweight, and assembled easily in the field using inexpensive tools. The one-step solvent, cement joining process ensures fast reliable connections. In addition to ease of installation, this unique piping system offers enhanced flow characteristics and exceptional fire performance properties. The complete system includes all of the com- ponents necessary to install and test the sys- tem. This includes: pipe, a comprehensive range of fittings, capillary tube, a variety of sample point configurations, and sampling point labels. F4.2. A typical concealed sampling installation.
