PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Viking MicrolostO and MicrolastHP5
Quick Response Upright and Conven.
tional (Old Style) Sprinklers are small
Ihermosensilive spray sprinklers
equipped with a 3 mm glass bulb.
Viking Microlast5 and MicrolastHPe
Quick Response Upright and Conven-
tional Sprinklers are available with sev-
eral finishes, temperature ratings, and
orifice sizes to meet design require.
menis. The special Polyester and Tef
Iofl5 coating can be used in decorative
applications where colors are desired.
In addition, the Polyester and Teflon5
coatings are corrosion resistant, provid-
ing protection against many corrosive
environments.
The pip cap and sealing assembly otthe
sprinkler is held in place by a 3 m glass
bulb. During fire conditions, when the
temperature around the sprinkler
reaches its operating temperature, the
heal-sensitive liquid in the glass bulb e-
pands, causing the bulb to shatter, re-
Conventional Upright
leasing the pip-cap and sealing spring
assembly. Water flowing through the
sprinkler orifice strikes the sprinkler de-
flector, forming a uniform spray pattern
to extinguish or control the fire.

Dyna-Flow®
High. Strength Steel Pipe
The o,iginal high-stiength light wall spiink!e, pipe with hydiaulics superior to Schedule.1O.
Dyna-Flow pipe is the "original" high.
strength Iightwall sprinkler pipe. Dyne-
Flow has outstanding hydraulic
capabilities and is recognized as the
most popular alternative to Schedule-JO
pipe. Lightweight, easy to cut and easy
to handle for installation. Dyna-Flow is a
valuable addition to any fire protection
system.
With an inside diameter of up to 11%
larger than Schedule40 and up to 7%
larger than Schedule- 10, Dyne-Flow
pipe hydraulics are exceptional. Larger
LD.s enable Dyne-Flow, and related
components, to be down-sized within the
system, thus increasing the potential for
job cost savings. For complete }iazen-
Williams charts, refer to "Dyna-Flow
Hydraulic Data Tables."

Merit Weld-MiseriM Tee-Let, Welding Branch Outlet Fittings offer the user a high strength, low cost forged thread
ed and grooved line of fittings specifically designed and manufactured to be installed on schedules 5 thru 10, propri
etary thin wall flow pipe and standard wall pipe.
Unified DesignTm Series
Merit's Unified DesigrIN Series carries all important design considerations into its entire line of welding branch outlet fittings
Merit Weld-Miser Tee-Lets are designed and manufactured to reduce the amount of weld required to install the Tee-Left
on thin wall or proprietary flow pipe. Typically only one weld-pass completes the installation. Merit Tee-Lets install will
less weld volume than any other brand of welding outlet fittings for fire sprinkler appli-
cations.. To accomplish this:
The contoured end of the fittings employs a reducd outside diameter. -
Two major advantages are immediately apparent:
The thinner wall on the contoured end permits welding temperatures to be
matched to the thickness of the branch line or main thereby insuring complete
penetration without cold welds, weld roll-off, bum-through or excessive distor-
tion.
[HI.
On the smaller sizes a heavier section is maintained on the threaded end of the
filling. This protects the threads from damage during shipping and handling
prior to installation as well as from weld distortion.
Each outlet size 1-112' and larger, whether male or female threaded, grooved or
beveled requires the same hole size in the header pipe. This simplifies the installa-
tion process.
General Specifications
Tee-Let welding outlet fittings are manufactured from highly weldable steel which conforms to thechemical and physical requiri
ments of ASTM A-53, Grades A or 6, Type E. Ease of instaliatioh is assured when automatic welding equipment is used to insti
Merit Tee-Lets.
Threads are cut in accordance with the requirements of ANSI E1.20.1, 300 lb. class, national standard for tapered pipe thread
BS21:1985 BSPT threads are available.
Tee-Let threaded and grooved welding outlet fittings are UL/ULC Listed, and FM Approved for use In the fire sprinkler systen
installed in accordance with the requirements of NFPA Bulletin 13. They are rated for 300 PSI operation in fire sprinkler system
and higher pressures in other non-critical piping systems. Send for pressure ratings per ASMEJANSI B31.
Tee-Lets are offered in a wide variety of header sizes. The consolidated header sizes shown in the following charts illow the I
tings to be installed on more than one header size, while permitting the first size listed to lit the header perfectly, while a small gi
along the longitudinal centerline of the header will appear for the second size listed.
Branch Outlet Fittings shall be Merit Weld-Misert Tee-Let,, lightweight forged steel, employing low weld volume profile to provide
full penetration welds with minimum burn-through and pipe distortion on schedules 5 thru 10, proprietary thin wall, and standard w
pipe. Threads are to be ANSI 61.20.1, tapered 300 lb. class or BS21:1985, and the bore of the fittings calculated to improve 11c
Welding outlets to be UL Listed, FM Approved for use conforming to NFPA, Bulletin 13 and pressure rated for 300 PSI maximum. Ic

FireLockiM Style 005 rigid
coupling has a unique, pat-
ented angle-pad design
which allows the housings
to offset while clamping the
grooves. By permitting the
housings to slide on the
angled bolt pads, rigidity is
obtained.
The Fir eLock couplings
provide rigidity for valve
connections, fire mains and
long straight runs. Support
and hanging requirements
correspond to NFPA 13

Style 77 couplings are
designed with cross-ribbed
construction to provide a
strong component for pres-
sure piping
systems. Sizes 3/ -12 (26,7
- 323,9 mm) are two-piece
,... housings. Sizes 4 - 22
) (355,6 - 559,0 mm) are cast
in four identical segments,
with larger sizes cast in six
segments. This eases ban-
dung and assures concen-
tricity.
A]] sizes are provided with
plated bolts and nuts. Gal-
vanized and stainless steel
housings are also available.
Independent testing has
shown the Style 77 cou-
pling to be an effective
stress relief and vibration
attenuation device provid-
ing performance superior to
braided steel and elasto-,
meric arch-type connec-
tors when used in close
proximity to the source of
vibration. Refer to 26.04 for
vibration information.
Independent testing has
shown that Victaulic Style
77 and 75 flexible couplings
and Style 07 Zero-Flex'
rigid couplings provide
exceptional functionality
during and after earth-
quake conditions. Refer to
26.05 for further informa-.
tion.
Vic-Plus Gasket' System
Victaulic now offers a gas-
]et system which requires
no field lubrication. The
Vic-Plus" System (patent
pending) is dry, clean, and
non-toxic. It reduces
assembly time substantial])
and eliminates the mess
and chance of over-
lubrication.

GENERAL INFORMATION INSTALLATION: See Fig.2
I
The Model VSR-F is a vane type waterfiow switch for use on
wet sprinkler systems. II is UL Listed and FM Approved for
use on steel pipe; schedules 10 through 40, sizes 2" thru r
(50mm thru 200mm).
LPC approved sizes are 7 thru 8' (50mm thru 200mm).
The unit may also be used as a sectional walerfiow detector
on large systems.
The unit contains two single pole, double throw, snap action
switches and an adjustable, instantly recycling pneumatic re-
lard. The switches are actuated when a flow of 10 gallons per
minute (38 1PM) or more occurs downstream of the device.
The flow condition must exist for a period of time necessary to
overcome the selected retard period.
ENCLOSURE: The unit is enclosed in a general purpose, die-
cast housing. The cover is held in place with two tamper resis-
tant screws which requite a special key for removal. A field in-
stallable cover tamper !witch is available as an option which
may be used to indicate unauthorized removal of the cover. See
bulletin no. 5400775 for installation lnttucliOns of this -witch.
These devices may be mounted on horizontal or vertical pig
On horizontal pipe they should be installed on the top side of
pipe where they will be accessible. The units should not be
stalled within 6" (15cm) 01 a fitting which changes the direction
the waterflow or within 24 (60 cm) of a valve or drain.
Drain the system and drill a hole in the pipe using a circular s,
in a slow speed drill. The 2" (50mm) and 2 1/7 (65mm) devic
require a hole with a diameter of I 1/4k 1' iir - I/16 (33r
±2mm). All other sizes require a hole with a diameter of 7 ii
(50mm ±2mm).
Clean the inside pipe of all growth, or other material for a ii
lance equal to the pipe diameter on either side of the hole.
Roll the vane so that it may be inserted into the hole; do not b
or crease it. Insert the vane so that the arrow on the sad
points in the direction of the waterfiow. Install the saddle st
and tighten nuts alternately to an eventual 50 fl-lbs. (68 n-rn
torque (see Fig. 2). The vane must not rub the inside of the
or bind in any way.
