Its modular design can accomrrodate from 1 to 4 independent suppression systems. In its simplest configuration, the system provides input and output functions to protect one hazard area. Additional haz- ard areas can be protected by adding detection circuit or suppression control boards. All detection zones are field selectable for Class A or Class B supervision of field wiring. The suppression control sequence is programmable, pro- viding flexibility for a wide variety of applications. Power supplies are available in 2.75 and 4 Amp versions. and can be added to the system for up to 8 Amps capacity at24VDC. Auxiliary relay boards can be added easily to the system for additional control functions such as HVAC shutdown and door holder release. The following components are avail- able for the Gemini Controls Suppression Control System: Power Supply Power supplies are offered in two versions: 2.75 Amp rated output at 24 VDC from 120 VAC, 60 Hz input 4 Amp rated output at 24 VDC from 120 or 240 VAC, 50 or 60 Hz input Both power supplies feature advanced switching circuitry for increased system reliability. The switching power supply circuitry responds immediately to voltage surges and cur- rent overloads for system protection. The power supply out- put is automatically regulated in the event of current overload. The power supply has "brown our' protection in the event of low or total AC power loss. Transfer to battery occurs auto- matically when AC voltace is less than required for opera- tion of the system. A trouble signal alerts the operator that normal AC operation has been interrupted. When AC power is restored, the system will resume normal operaticn. During AC operation, the system provides battery charging current at a constant rate to maintain battery level at 27.6V. The battery circuit is fully supervised for low voltage, shorts, defective cells, reversed polarity, and disconnected or miss- ing batteries. A ground fault monitoring circuit provides visual LED indica- tion if current leakage from 24 VDC, logic voltage, or sys- tem negative to earth ground is greater than 5 mA. All supervised input and output circuits are monitored for ground fault conditions. Yellow LED indicators are provided on the power supply circuit board for ground fault condition and battery circuit trouble. The Power Supply/Battery Charger Board has provisions for optional battery voltage and charging current plug-in meters. Common Control Board The Gemini Controls Common Control Board monitors and controls all functions common to the entire system. In addi- tion, this board features two Class A or B detection circuits for alarm only functions and a Class B audible output circuit. The audible output circuit is activated during any system alarm, and can be silenced by the "Alarm Silence" switch. The alarm will resound in the event of subsequent alarm conditions. Each new alarm condition must be silenced separately. The Common Control Board indicates the existence of system normal, alarm and trouble conditions with LED's and a piezo- electric trouble buzzer. LED indicators provided are as follows: Label Color Information Function AC on Green A.C. Power to system on System Alarm Active Red An alarm condition exists in the system System Alarm Silenced Yellow System alarm has been silenced System Fault Active Yellow A fault condition exists in system System Fault Silenced Yellow An active system fault has been silenced Alarm Fire Zone 1 Red Input Zone 1 is in alarm Fault-Fire Zone 1 Yellow A fault condition exists in input Zone 1 Alarm-Fire Zone 2 Red Input Zone 2 is in alarm Fault-Fire Zone 2 Yellow A fault condition exists in input Zone 2 Audible Circuit Fault Yellow A fault condition exists in the common alarm audible output circuit NOTE: All indicating LED's on the Common Control Board are visible with the panel door closed except for Audible Circuit Fault. Control switches are provided on the Common Control Board to perform the following functions: Switch Label Function Reset Momentarily interrupts system power to reset alarms and detector circuits Alarm Silence Silences system audible alarm outputs and activates 'Alarm Silenced" LED indicator Fault Silence Silences fault buzzer and activates "Fault Silenced" LED Lamp Test Illuminates all system LED's and sounds fault buzzer NOTE: Control switches cannot be operated with the panel door closed. 0 Suppression Control Board The Suppression Control Board provides all input and output functions, programmable logic and system status indicators for suppression system activation. Alarm status, circuit fault conditions, alarm silencing and reset functions are inked to the Common Control Board by a system bus. 2. ./DC operating power is obtained from either the system bus or by direct field wiring from the power supply. (Power by direct field wiring is supervised.) The Suppression Control Board is placement supervised. This means a system trouble indication will occur if the board is removed or installed improperly. Input and output functions are provided as follows: Class A and B detection input circuits: Two are provided for either single zone or cross-zoned detector applications. Releasing Circuits (Series Supervised): Two are provid- ed for release of suppression agents. Supervision is directly through the coil of the solenoid-operated releasing device to insure system integrity. (Immediate or time-delay releas- ing sequences are field selectable.) Class B AudibleNisual Output Circuits: Two are provid- ed for connection to polarized 24 VDC signalling devices. Circuits are programmable for pulsed and steady output sequence indication. Class B Manual Release Circuit: One circuit is provided for connection to manual pull stations or other normally open contact devices. This circuit is programmable for immediate or delayed discharge of suppression agent. In all sequences, the manual release function will override all other delays and aborts. Class B Abort Circuit: One circuit is provided for connec- tion to normally open contact pushbuttons. When operated. the abort circuit will inhibit discharge of suppression agent. User selectable options are provided to either continue dis- charae countdown, freeze countdown. or reset and hold countdown until the abort button is released. Class B Pressure Supervisory Loop: One circuit is pro- vided for pressure switches to monitor storage pressure of the suppression agent. System trouble or system alarm upon pressure loss may be programmed into the system to alert the operator. Relay Actuation Outputs: One output to operate 24 VDC relays is provided for each of the following conditions: First Zone Alarm Second Zone Alarm System Discharged Discharge Aborted Programmable operating sequences are field selectable by means of DIP switches located behind a "dead front' cover inside the panel. These switches are not accessible unless the panel door is open and the "dead front" cover is removed. Auxiliary Suppression Board This circuit board can be added to the suppression control board providing two additional supervised releasing circuits. The auxiliary suppression board makes it possible to super- vise and control up to four releasing devices from one sup- pression control board. Field terminals for connection to two releasing devices and a separately supervised fault LED (yellow) indicator are provided. Digital Countdown Display A digital LED display can be added to the suppression con- trol board to provide visual indication of the pre-discharge countdown during an alarm condition. The one inch high display is read easily from up to 30 feet. The display can also be mounted remote from the panel. Alarm Auxiliary Board The Alarm Auxiliary Board provides two alarm output cir- cuits for po'arized devices such as bells. horns, or strobes. These out can be wired in either Class A or Class S configurations. The alarm circuits can be activated from the system bus (com- mon alarm) or by an external signal (system negative) from a zone or group of zones. Each circuit is rated for 3A (max.) and is fused. The Alarm Auxiliary Board is programmable for latching and non-latching modes. City Box Board The City Box Board provides a local energy connection to a standard municipal transmitter (coded). The City Box Board mounts into a socket provided on the Alarm Auxiliary Board. Activation of the City Box Board can be by the sys- tem bus (common alarm) or from an input (system nega- tive) from a zone or group of zones. A disconnect switch is provided with a "disconnected LED". The system fault buzzer sounds while the disconnect switch is activated. A red LED indicates that the city box coil has been tripped and a yellow LED will be lit and the system fault buzzer will sound until the city box circuit has been restored to normal (closed). Reverse Polarity Board The Reverse Polarity Board provides a means to connect a direct-connect telephone line from a municipal or commer- cially operated central alarm receiving station. The Reverse Polarity Board mounts on a socket provided on the Alarm Auxiliary Board. The Reverse Polarity Board transmits both alarm and fault (trouble) conditions. Activation of the Reverse Polarity Board can be by the system bus or an input (system negative) from a zone or group of zones. A disconnect switch is provided along with a 'disconnected LED.' which activates the system fault buzzer. A red LED indicates that the transmitter has been activated and a yel- low fault LED indicates a problem in the circuit. DESCRIPTION Models PSD 7155 and 7156 series photoelectronic smoke de- tectors respóna to a broad spectrum of both flaming and smol- dering fire conditions. They incorporate state-of-the-art, solid- state, low-voltage circuitry featuring SMT (Surface Mount Tech- nology) and are designed for 2-wire and 4-wire installation with the proper base. The detectors are designed for open area protection (UL Standard 268) and for duct applications (UL Stan- dard 268A). They may be installed in fire protection systems and systems intended for releasing device service with com- mercially available fire suppression or detection control units, provided compatibility has been established. Model PSD 7156 includes a 135°F thermistor heat detector. These models operate over a 10.2 to 36.8 VDC range (2WB base only, 24V nominal) with compatible control units. EMI/ RFI noise immunity up to 20 volts/meter assures virtual elimi- nation of false alarms from electrical interference. Effective: September 1996 0-300 fpm and the 7155P is rated for 0-4000 fpm open area detection. Sensitivity ranges can be measured in place using a commercially available voltmeter and a special Fenwal meter (ST-001) that allows direct % per foot obscuration measure- ment. Readings found to be within specified limits are accept- able for normal field applications. Model PSD 7156 includes a thermistor heat detector with 135°F set point. Operation of the thermistor detector is independent of smoke detector circuitry. Functional testing is accomplished by means of a magnet which causes an alarm condition. This magnet test meets the require- ment of the U.L. Sensitivity Test Feature. Under alarm condi- tion, the pulsing LED will switch to a steady red illumination. Base installation is both simple and fast because of screw- type connections. The detector is fitted to the base by a twist- to-lock action. A removable locking tab secures the head to base to provide a high degree of vandal resistance. An extra fine mesh insect screen protecting the chamber area reduces potential nuisance alarms. Photoelectric detectors may be interchanged with Fenwal ion- ization detectors when using multifunction base configurations. Optional bases are shown in Table Ill. High signal-to-noise ratio permits a significant reduction in light ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS baffling, thereby improving smoke entry characteristics while reducing nuisance alarms. DESCRIPTION The CPD7051 series detector, is a dual-chamber, ionization- type detector designed to sense both visible and invisible products of combustion. This detector incorporates all ad- vanced solid-state, low-voltage circuitry featuring SMT (Surface Mount Technology) and is designed for 2-wire and 4-wire installation. The 3600 smoke entry characteristic permits maximum smoke response from any direction. A unique sensing chamber design permits operation in air velocities up to 2000 FPM. The detector is designed for Open Area Protec- tion (UL Standard 268) and Duct Housing Applications (UL Standard 268A). It may be installed in systems intended for Releasing Device Service through use of a compatible control unit. Detector base options are available to provide for auxiliary test, indication, and/or control functions. To assure that the detector is functioning, a pulsing LED (approximately every 4 seconds) allows for visual supervi- sion of the detector. Under alarm condition, the LED lights continuously at full brilliance. An optional base is available to provide remote LED function. A unique gated output circuit design provides improved sta- bility and transient suppression. Special signal processing techniques verify the presence of smoke before the detector will alarm. Effective: October 1996 A The detector head is installed into the base with a simple twist-lock action. A locking feature is provided for vandal - resistant security. A test magnet can provide a full functional test which simulates the effect of smoke (approximately 1.3% per foot obscuration) entering the sensing chamber. This magnet test meets the requirements of the U.L. Sensitivity Test Feature. An optional base is available for remote functional testing. In addition, the actual sensitivity of the detector may be moni- tored with a standard voltmeter and a special sensitivity tester (ST-001) that allows direct readout in % per foot obscuration without the necessity of removing the detector. A new, improved fine mesh insect screen protecting the chamber area is used to avoid potential nuisance alarms. Optional bases are available for supplementary 2- or 4-wire relay functions.
