Dyna-Thread sprinkler pipe represents an engineering advancement for the sprinkler pipe industry. It combines the safety and longevity of traditional Sch-40 pipe with quality and superior hydraulic advantages. S Dyna-Thread's inside diameter is up to 3.6% larger than Sch-40 giving it superior hydraulics. And, when used in combination with Dyna-Flow pipe, down sizing often occurs. Dyna-Thread is fully listed and approved by UL, ULC, and FM for fire sprinkler applications. The life expectancy of Dyna-Thread and Sch-40 are equal based on the calculated wall thicknesses per UL. The consistent quality of steel used to make Dyna-Thread facilitates smooth threading and lower maintenance costs. The exterior of Dyna-Thread is protected by a clean, durable mill coating for extended shelf life and easy paint application. (P <~> @ Listed Approved Listed With its increased strength and lighter weight, Dyna-Thread reduces installation fatigue and is ideal for retro-fit applications. Corrosion Resistance Ratio (CRR) is a UL (Underwriters Laboratory) term for the estimated life expectancy of a pipe joint. This is based on the calculated wall thickness at the base of the first exposed thread, assumed to be the weakest point of the pipe length. Dyna- Thread and Sch-40 have the same calculated wall thicknesses at this point and are both assigned the same CRR of 1.00. The internal surface of all black Allied Tube & Conduit Fire Sprinkler pipe products up to 4.5000" in diameter is coated with our new Antibacterial Formula, "ABF". In scientific laboratory test, ABS proved to have superior resistance to microbial colonization of pipe walls, thereby delaying or possibly preventing the onset of Microbiologically Influenced corrosion (MIC) when the First Sprinkler System is first installed. More wall thickness at the thread (CRR1 .00) gives Dyna-Thread better life expectancy than lightwall threadable pipe joints. Unlike lightwall threadable pipe, Dyna-Thread has no thread gauge warning. Dyna-Thread is approved for standard hanger spacing (15 ft. O.C.), can be used as earthquake sway bracing, and is safe to use as drops. Dyna-Thread is safer to weld on. Dyna-Thread is more widely accepted than lightwall threadable where Sch-40 is specified. Super 40/Dyna-Thread pipe is manufactured to meet: ASTM A-135, Grade A and is in compliance with NFPA- 13. All sizes of Super 40fDyna- Thread are rated at 300 psi working pressure. Super 40/Dyna-Thread is UL and ULC Listed for wet, dry deluge and pre-action sprinkler systems and FM Approved for use in wet systems. Super 40/Dyna-Thread can be "hot-dip" galvanized to meet FM requirement for dry systems. Super 40/Dyna-Thread is approved for all threaded couplings and welded outlets and is suitable for all roll-grooved, and plain-end fittings. (See listing information). Specificat ['Iii. They are stronger and more corrosion resistant than cast iron fittings. The additional strength is provided by the ductile properties and by adding mag- nesium while the iron is being poured into the final cast shape. Although lighter than standard cast iron, the fit- tings have an added advantage of be- ing less susceptible to cracking due to their added strength. The Series 800, California, and Figure 719 Threaded Pipe Fittings are a re- designation for the Central Series 800, California, and Figure 719 Threaded Pipe Fittings. WARNINGS The Threaded Pipe Fittings described herein must be installed, and main- tained in compliance with this docu- ment, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Pro- tection Association, in addition to the standards of any other authorities hav- ing jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for maintain- ing their fire protection system and de- vices in proper operating condition. The Models F1FR56, F1FR56LL, F1FR42, F1FR42LL, F1FRXLH & Fl FR28 Series Recessed automatic sprinklers utilize a 3.0 mm frangible glass bulb. These sprinklers have demonstrated response times in laboratory tests which are five to ten times faster than standard response sprinklers. This quick response enables the Model Fl FR56, Fl FR56LL, Upright Pendent Vertical Sidewall Horizontal Sidewall Concealed Pendent XLH Upright XLH Pendent F1FR42, F1FR42LL, F1FRXLH & F1FR28 Series sprinklers to apply wa- ter to a fire much faster than standard sprinklers of the same temperature rat- ing. The glass bulb consists of an accu- rately controlled amount of special fluid hermetically sealed inside a precisely manufactured glass capsule. This glass bulb is specially constructed to provide fast thermal response. At normal temperatures, the glass bulb contains the fluid in both the liquid and vapor phases. The vapor phase can be seen as a small bubble. As heat is applied, the liquid expands, forcing the bubble smaller and smaller as the liq- uid pressure increases. Continued heating forces the liquid to push out against the bulb, causing the glass to shatter, opening the waterway and allowing the deflector to distrib- ute the discharging water. 1 Recessed Horizontal Sidewall 11 V Conventional Recessed Pendent/F1/F2 Recessed Pendent/FP XLH Recessed Pendent F1/F2 XLH Recessed Pendent F Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc., 103 Fairview Park Drive, Elmsford, New York 10523 Application Quick response sprinklers are used in fixed fire protection systems: Wet, Dry, Deluge or Preaction. Important: The F1FR56 Sprinkler with Model CCP cover plate is not an FM Approved combination. Installation Quick response sprinklers are intended for installation as specified in NFPA 13. Quick response sprinklers and stan- dard response sprinklers should not be intermixed. The Model F1FR56, F1FR56LL, F1FR42, F1FR42LL, F1FRXLH & F1FR28 Recessed Quick Response Sprin- klers are to be installed as shown. The Model Fl or F2 Es- cutcheons illustrated are the only recessed escutcheons to be used with the Model F1FR56, F1FR56LL, F1FR42, F1FR42LL, F1FRXLH & F1FR28 Sprinklers. The use of any other recessed escutcheon will void all approvals and ne- gate all warranties. When installing Model F1FR56, F1FR56LL, F1FR42, F1FR42LL, F1FRXLH & F1FR28 Sprinklers, use the Model D Sprinkler Wrench. Use the Model GFR2 Wrench for install- ing F1FR56, F1FR56LL, F1FR42, F1FR42LL, F1FRXLH & Fl FR28 Recessed Pendent Sprinklers. Any other type of wrench may damage these sprinklers. NOTE: A leak tight 1/2" NPT (R1/2) sprinkler joint can be obtained with a torque of 8-18 ft-lbs (10,8 - 24,4 N-m). Do not tighten sprinklers over maximum recommended torque. It may cause leakage or impairment of the sprinklers. The Models F1FR56/CCP & F1FR56LL/CCP Concealed Sprinkler use the ½" orifice, ½" NPT (R1/2), Model F1FR56 & El FR56LL Pendent Sprinkler with a threaded Model CCP cup which is factory attached to the sprinklers. The Model F1FR56 Pndent is available in temperature rating of 135°F (57°C), 155°F (68°C), 175°F (79°C) or 200°F (93°C). The Model F1FR56LL Pendent is available only in a rating of 200°F (93°C). The concealed sprinkler assemblies are com- pleted by the installation of the attractive low profile Model CCP push on cover plate assembly, rated 135°F (57°C) or • 165°F (74°C) for the Fl FR56 and 165°F (74°C) for the FlFR56 LL. The cover plate and sprinkler cup assemblies are joined using a cover plate skirt with flexible tabs for threaded en- *DuPont Registered Trade Mark 6. Figure 2 gagement. A choice of two cover plate assemblies provide either 1/2" (13mm) or 5/8" (8mm) of cover adjustment, Do not install these sprinklers in ceiling which have positive pressure in the space above. After a 2/" (67mm) diameter hole is cut in the ceiling, the sprinkler is easily installed with the Model RC1 Wrench. A Teflon* based thread sealant should be applied to the sprin- kler threads only. The Model RC1 Wrench is then used to engage the sprinkler wrenching surfaces and to install the sprinkler in the fitting. When inserting or removing the wrench from the sprinkler/cup assembly, care should be tak- en to prevent damage to the sprinkler. DO NOT WRENCH ON ANY OTHER PART OF THE SPRINKLER. The cover plate is then pushed onto the cup. Final adjustment is made by hand turning the cover plate until the skirt flange makes full contact with the ceiling. Cover plate removal requires turning in the counter clockwise direction. After installation, inspect all sprinklers to ensure that there is a gap between the cover plate and ceiling and that the four cup slots are open and free from any air flow impedi- ment to the space above. Concealed cover plate/cup assemblies are listed only for use with specific sprinklers. The use of any other concealed cover plate/cup assembly with the Model F1FR56 Pendent Sprinkler or the use of the Model CCP Concealed cover plate assembly on any sprinkler with which it is not specifi- cally listed my prevent good fire protection and will void all guarantees, warranties, listings and approvals. Glass bulb sprinklers have orange bulb protectors to minimize bulb damage during shipping, handling and in- stallation. REMOVE THIS PROTECTION AT THE TIME THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM IS PLACED IN SERVICE FOR FIRE PROTECTION. Removal of the protectors before this time may leave the bulb vulnerable to damage. RASCO wrench- es are designed to install sprinklers when covers are in place. REMOVE PROTECTORS BY UNDOING THE CLASP BY HAND. DO NOT USE TOOLS TO REMOVE THE PRO- TECTORS. D Model G5-80, Model G5-56, Model G5-42, Model G5-28 Quick Response Concealed Automatic Sprinkler Plain Cover Plate rA K Perforated Cover Plate The Model 05-80, G5-56, G5-42 and G5-28 are designed for use where aesthetic appearance is important. Offices, hos- pitals, motels and restaurants are but a few of the applications where it can be used. The Model 05-80, 05-56, G5-42 and G5-28 are UL Listed Quick Response Concealed sprinklers intended for use in accordance with NFPA 13. FM Approves the 05-56 and the G5-28 sprinkler as a standard response concealed sprinkler intended for use in accordance with FM Loss Prevention Data Sheet 2.0. Product Description The Reliable Model G5-80, 05-56, G5-42 and G5-28 uses a proven quick response fusible element in a standard style sprinkler frame with a drop-down deflector. This assembly is recessed into the ceiling and concealed by a flat cover plate assembly. The threaded engagement provides 3/4" (19mm) of cover adjustment. The flat cover plate is attached to the skirt using either 135°F (57°C) or 165°F (74°C) ordinary tempera- ture classification solder. When the ceiling temperature rises, the solder holding the flat cover plate melts, the flat cover plate released thus expos- ing the sprinkler inside to the rising ambient temperature. The subsequent fusing of the element opens the waterway and causes the deflector to distribute the water. Any secure engagement between the cover plate and cup will assure that the drop-down deflector is properly located below the ceiling. Figure 1). They are suppression mode sprinklers that are especially advantageous as a means of eliminating in-rack sprinklers when protecting high-piled storage. Model ESFR-17 Sprinklers are primarily used for ceiling-only sprinkler protec- tion of (but not limited to) the following storage applications: most encapsulated or non-encap- sulated common materials including cartoned, unexpanded plastics cartoned, expanded plastics some storage arrangements of rubber tires and roll paper For more specific criteria, refer to Table A in this technical data sheet as well as the applicable design standard. The Model ESFR-17 Upright Sprin- klers provide the system designer with an upright option to the traditional pendent ESFR Sprinklers. With a K-fac- tor of 16.8, Model ESFR-17 Sprinklers provide system designers with hydrau- lic and sprinkler placement options not presently available to traditional ESFR Sprinklers having a K-factor of 14.0. In particular, the Model ESFR-17 Upright Sprinklers are designed to operate at substantially lower-end head pressures compared to ESFR Sprinklers with 14.0 K-factors. This feature offers flexibility IMPORTANT Always refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP 700 for the "INSTALLER WARNING" that provides cautions with respect to handling and instal- lation of sprinkler systems and com- ponents. Improper handling and installation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo- nents and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. Page 1 of 4 when sizing system piping and posi- tioning the system piping with respect to the ceiling. Applications for the TYCO ESFR Sprin- klers are expanding beyond currently recognized installation standards. General Instructions Avoid damage to the fusible Link Assembly during installation by using the Frame arms only to handle the sprinkler (i.e., do not apply pressure to the fusible Link Assembly) and by using the appropriate sprinkler wrench. Failure to do so can lead to an unstable link assembly and premature activation of the sprinkler. Damaged sprinklers must be replaced. A leak-tight 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained by apply- ing a minimum-to-maximum torque of 10 to 20 lbs-ft. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). Higher levels of torque can distort the sprinkler inlet with consequent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Note: Install the Model ESFR-17 Upright Sprinkler in the Upright posi- tion (Ref. Figure 2). Step 1. With pipe thread sealant applied, hand-tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Do not apply pres- sure to the Link Assembly, and handle the Model ESFR-17 Sprinkler only by the Frame arms. Step 2. Wrench-tighten the Model ESFR-17 Upright Sprinkler using only the W-Type 21 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 2) and by fully engaging (seating) the wrench on the sprinkler wrench flats (Ref. Figure 1). Step 3. After installation, inspect the Link Assembly of each Model ESFR-17 Sprinkler for damage. In particular, verify that the Link Assembly and Hook are positioned as illustrated in Figure 1, and that the Link Assembly is not bent, creased, or forced out of normal position in any way. Replace damaged sprinklers. Limited Warranty For warranty terms and conditions, visit www.tyco-fire.com. Ordering Procedure Contact your local distributor for avail- ability. Before closing a fire protection system main control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it controls, permission to shut down the affected fire protection system must be obtained from the proper authorities and notify all personnel who may be affected by this action. Sprinklers which are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated, or other- wise altered after leaving the factory. Modified sprinklers must be replaced. Sprinklers that have been exposed to corrosive products of combustion, but have not operated, should be replaced if they cannot be completely cleaned by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth or by brushing it with a soft bristle brush. Care must be exercised to avoid damage to the sprinklers before, S during, and after installation. Sprin- klers damaged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be replaced. Also, replace any sprin- kler that has a cracked bulb or that has lost liquid from its bulb (Ref. Installa- tion Section). The owner is responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and devices in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National FireProtection Asso- ciation (e.g., NFPA 25), in addition to the standards of any authorities having jurisdiction. Contact the installing con- tractor or product manufacturer with any questions. Automatic sprinkler systems are recommended to be inspected, tested, and maintained by a qualified Inspection Service in accordance with local requirements and/or national codes.
