Revision: 50.52.1 FM Approved and UL Listed Sprinkler Pipe Bull Moose Tube Company is a recognized producer of quality pipe products. Our Schedule 10 and Schedule 40 are FM Approved and UL Listed (for U.S. and Canada), even though these products do not require separate approvals and listings. Bull Moose Tube made the decision to have them approved and listed for your peace of mind. Our Sch. 10 and Sch. 40 have been through the same rigorous testing as our other fine pipe products. Bull Moose Tube's Sch. 10 and Sch. 40 pipes are made to ASTM A135 and ASTM A795. These products are typically supplied with our protective coating but can be supplied without the coating so they can be hot-dip galvanized to meet FM requirements for use in dry systems in accordance with the zinc coating specifications of ASTM A795 or ASTM A53. In order to provide a leak-tight seat for the gasket, pipe surfaces should be free from indentations and projections from the end of the pipe to the groove. All loose paint, scale, dirt, chips, grease, and rust must be removed prior to installation. Failure to take these important steps may result in improper coupling assembly, causing leakage. Also, check the manufacturer's instructions for the specific fitting used. .1819 Clarkson Road For additional information, u (N 6 Chesterfield, MO 63017 contact your salesperson C L US (800) 325-4467 todayat (800) 325-4467 or LISTED BULL. They are higher in strength and more corrosion resistant than cast iron fittings. The additional strength is provided by the ductile properties making up the fitting. This is accomplished by adding magnesium while the iron is being poured into it final cast shape. This provides an advantage as the fittings are not as susceptible to leaks or cracking and they are also lighter than standard cast iron. Caution: Installers who have not used ductile iron threaded fittings before should be instructed that the fittings are stronger than the pipe and over- tightening the fitting can create leaks and cause damage to pipe threads. In general, there is about one-half turn difference between cast iron and ductile iron fittings. Apply Teflon tape or high quality pipe joint compound on the male pipe threads and tighten two to three turns beyond hand tight. If you are using an automatic make-on machine, please exercise caution in setting your machine to the proper parameters prior to tightening fittings onto the male pipe threads. It provides sprinkler operations approximately six times faster than ordinary sprinklers and can be installed wherever standard concealed spray sprinklers are specified when allowed by the applicable standards. This sprinkler offers the additional feature of greatly in- creased safety to life and should be used advisedly and under the direction of approving authorities having jurisdiction. The sprinkler is available with a nominal 1" of adjustment and a low profile cover plate assembly. All that is seen at the ceiling is a 3 5/16" diameter ceiling plate or an optional 2 3/4" diameter ceiling plate color finished to match the specifier's. exact requirements. The GL Series Concealed Sprinkler may be virtually invisible as it does not interrupt the ...'!smooth flow" of the ceiling. Globe's GL5606 Concealed Sprinkler utilizes a 3mm frangible glass ampule which is located above the ceiling and concealed from view by the ceiling plate. The provided protective cap needs to be removed in order to install the sprinkler with the proper wrench The protective cap must be replaced on the sprinkler until the time the cover plate is to be installed. The "push on - screw off' designed cover plate is easily installed and with a nominal 1" of adjustment makes it easier to get a proper fit at the ceiling. Operation of the sprinkler occurs when heat build up causes the solder holding the cover plate to the support shell to melt allowing the cover plate to fall clear. Continued heat build up causes the 3mm glass bulb to burst allowing the deflector to drop down and distribute water in an approved pattern to extinguish or control the fire: . . GFS-1 50a (Formerly A-38) tqccs Worldwide i Fire Protection Contacts i www.tyco-fire.com Products Model ESFR-25 252 K-factor Pendent Sprinkler Early Suppression, Fast Response General Description TYCO Model ESFR-25 Pendent Sprin- klers are Early Suppression, Fast Response (ESFR) sprinklers having a nominal K-factor of 25.2 (Ref. Figure 1). They are suppression-mode sprinklers that are especially advantageous as a means of eliminating the use of in-rack sprinklers when protecting high-piled storage. The Model ESFR-25 Sprinklers are pri- marily used for ceiling-only sprinkler protection of (but not limited to) the fol- lowing storage applications: most encapsulated or non-encap- sulated common materials including cartoned, unexpanded plastics uncartoned (exposed) expanded plastics in accordance with NFPA 13 and FM Global standards some storage arrangements of rub- ber tires, roll paper, flammable liq- uids, aerosols, and automotive components For more specific criteria, refer to Table A as well as the applicable design standard. The Model ESFR-25 Pendent Sprin- klers provide the system designer with hydraulic and sprinkler place- ment options not presently available to the traditional ESFR sprinklers having nominal K-factors of 14.0 and 16.8. In particular, the Model ESFR-25 Sprin- kler has been designed to operate at substantially lower-end head pres- sures, as compared to ESFR Sprinklers IMPORTANT Always refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP700 for the "INSTALLER WARNING" that provides cautions with respect to handling and instal- lation of sprinkler systems and com- ponents. Improper handling and installation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo- nents and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. Page 1 of 4 having nominal K-factors of 14.0 and 16.8. This feature offers flexibility when sizing system piping, as well as possi- bly reducing or eliminating the need for a system fire pump. Also, Model ESFR-25 Sprinklers permit use of a maximum deflector-to-ceiling distance of 18 inches (460 mm) versus 14 inches (356 mm). Additionally, a storage arrangement of 40 ft. (12,2 m) with a ceiling height of 45 ft. (13,7 m) does not require in-rack sprinklers as do other ESFR Sprinklers having nominal K-factors of 14.0 and 16.8. The Model ESFR-25 Sprinklers are listed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for specific applications with a maximum storage height of 43 ft. (13,1 m) with a maximum ceiling height of 48 ft. (14,6 m) without the requirement for in-rack sprinklers. Refer to the Specific Application Listing (UL) for the design criteria. Applications for the TYCO ESFR Sprin- klers are expanding beyond currently recognized installation standards. For information on research fire tests (e.g., with flammable liquids and aerosols) that may be acceptable to an author- ity having jurisdiction, contact Tyco Fire Protection Products (TFPP) Technical Services. The Model ESFR-25 Sprinklers described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document, as well as with the applica- ble standards of the National Fire Pro- tection Association (NFPA), in addition to the standards of any authorities having jurisdiction (e.g., FM Global). Failure to do so may impair the perfor- mance of these devices. The owner is responsible for main- taining their fire protection system and devices in proper operating con- dition. Contact the installing contrac- tor or product manufacturer with any questions. In all cases, the appropriate NFPA or FM Global installation standard, or other applicable standard, must be referenced to ensure applicability and to obtain complete installation guide- JULY 2016 lines. The general guidelines in this data sheet are not intended to provide complete installation criteria. Design Criteria The following general guidelines pro- vided for the TYCO Model ESFR-25 Pendent Sprinklers can be used for a quick reference. The National Fire Protection Associa- tion (NFPA) and FM Global (FM Approv- als) provide installation standards that must be used to properly design an automatic sprinkler system utilizing Early Suppression, Fast Response (ESFR) Sprinklers. The guidelines pro- vided by NFPA and FM Global may differ. Consequently, the appropri- ate standard must be used for a given installation. In all cases, the appropriate NFPA or FM Global installation standard must be referenced to ensure applicabil- ity and to obtain complete installation guidelines. The following general guidelines are not intended to provide complete installa- tion criteria. In addition to this technical data sheet, the following data sheets describe other TYCO ESFR Sprinklers: TFP315 Model ESFR-17 (TY7226) K=16.8 Pendent Sprinkler TFP3I6 Model ESFR-17 (TY7126) K=16.8 Upright Sprinkler TFP317 Model ESFR-17 (TY7223) K=16.8 Pendent Sprinkler TFP3I8 Model ESFR-1 (TY6226) K=14.0 Pendent Sprinkler TFP319 Model ESFR-14 (TY6236) K=14.0 Pendent Sprinkler System Type Wet Pipe Roof Construction Unobstructed or obstructed con- struction (e.g., smooth ceiling, bar joists, beam and girder, and so forth). General Instructions Damage to the fusible Link Assem- bly during installation can be avoided by handling the sprinkler by the frame arms only (i.e., do not apply pressure to the fusible Link Assembly), and by using the appropriate sprinkler wrench. Failure to do so can lead to an unstable link assembly and premature activation of the sprinkler. Damaged sprinklers must be replaced. A leak-tight 1 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained by applying a min- imum-to-maximum torque of 20 to 30 Ibs.-ft. (26,8 to 40,2 Nm). Higher levels of torque can distort the sprinkler inlet with consequent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Note: Install the Model ESFR-25 Pendent Sprinkler in the pendent posi- tion (Ref Figure 2). Step 1. With pipe thread sealant applied, hand-tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Do not apply pres- sure to the Link Assembly, and handle the Model ESFR-25 Pendent Sprinkler only by the Frame arms. Step 2. Wrench-tighten the Model ESFR-25 Pendent Sprinkler using only the W-Type 1 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 2) and by fully engaging (seating) the wrench on the sprinkler wrench flats (Ref. Figure 1). Step 4. After installation, inspect the Link Assembly of each Model ESFR-25 Pendent Sprinkler for damage. In par- ticular, verify that the Link Assembly and Hook are positioned as illustrated in Figure 1, and that the Link Assem- bly is not bent, creased, or forced out of normal position in any way. Replace damaged sprinklers. Care and Maintenance TYCO Model ESFR-25 Early Suppres- sion, Fast Response 25.2K Pendent Sprinklers must be maintained and ser- viced in accordance with this section. Before closing a fire protection system main control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it controls, permission to shut down the affected fire protection system must be obtained from the proper authorities and notify all personnel who may be affected by this action. Sprinklers which are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated, or other- wise altered after leaving the factory. Modified sprinklers must be replaced. Sprinklers that have been exposed to corrosive products of combustion, but have not operated, should be replaced if they cannot be completely cleaned by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth Or by brushing it with a soft bristle brush. Care must be exercised to avoid damage to the sprinklers before, during, and after installation. Sprin- klers damaged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be replaced. Also, replace any sprin- kler that has a cracked bulb or that has lost liquid from its bulb (Ref. Installa- tion section). The owner is responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and devices in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Asso- ciation (e.g., NFPA 25), in addition to the standards of any authorities having jurisdiction. Contact the installing con- tractor or product manufacturer with any questions. Automatic sprinkler systems are rec- ommended to be inspected, tested, and maintained by a qualified Inspec- tion Service in accordance with local requirements and/or national codes.
