Two LEDS indicate "SYSTEM ARMED" or "SYSTEM INACTIVE" when the key is inserted and turned. The "SYSTEM INACTIVE" indicator flashes intermittently. The key can only be removed in the armed position. The maintenance panel mounts to a 4' junction box and operates on 24VDC. OPERATION Operation of the ARM disconnect is through a two position key switch. When activated, the ARM disconnect immediately "opens" the releasing circuit making it impossible for the releasing panel to activate the suppression system. The ARM disconnect maintains circuit supervision by placing the releasing control panel into a trouble condition whenever the key switch is in the disconnect position. Copies of this manual are available at no charge from System Sensor. (For installations in Canada, please refer to CAN4-5524, Standard for the Installation of Fire Alarm Systems, and CEC Part 1, Sec. 32.) NOTICE: This manual should be left with the owner/user of this equipment. IMPORTANT: The detector used with this base must be tested and maintained regularly following NFPA 72 require- ments. The detector used with this base should be cleaned at least once a year. General Description The B1IORLP plug-in detector base is used with System Sensor model 1151 and 1151 ionization detector heads and model 2151 and 2151A photoelectronic detector heads. The capability of plugging these detectors into a variety of spe- cial bases makes them more versatile than equivalent direct-wired models. Refer to the System Sensor catalog for other available plug-in detector bases. This base is intended for use in 2-wire systems, with screw terminals provided for power, ground, and remote annun- ciator connections. The base also contains a resistor to pro- vide current limiting in the alarm state. D150-04-00 1 156-596-03R SCREWS (NOT SUPPLIED) SHORTIN SPRING DETECTOR BASE Mounting This detector base mounts directly to 3-1/2- inch and 4- inch octagon boxes, and 4-inch square boxes (with or with- out plaster rings). To mount, remove decorative ring by turning it in either direction to unhook the snaps, then sep- arate the ring from the base. Install the base to the box using the screws supplied with the junction box and the appropriate mounting slots in the base. Place decorative ring onto base, then turn in either direction until the ring snaps in place (see Figure 1). Figure 1. Mounting base to box: SNAP ON DECORATIVE RING Installation Guidelines All wiring must be installed in compliance with the National Electrical Code and the local codes having juris- diction. Proper wire gauges should be used. The conduc- tors used to connect smoke detectors to control panels and accessory devices should be color-coded to reduce the like- lihood of wiring errors. Improper connections can prevent a system from responding properly in the event of a fire. For signal wiring (the wiring between interconnected detectors), it is recommended that the wire be no smaller than 18 gauge (1.0 square mm). Wire sizes up to 12 gauge wire (2.5 square mm) may he used with the base. For best system performance, the power (+) and (-) loop wires should be twisted pair and installed in separate grounded conduit to protect the loop from extraneous electrical inter- ference. Smoke detectors and alarm system control panels have specifications for allowable loop resistance. Consult the control panel manufacturer's specifications for the total. loop resistance allowed for the particular model control panel being used before wiring the detector loops. [ACAUTION I For system supervision - For terminals 2, 3, and 5 do not use looped wire under terminals. Break wire run to provide system supervision of connections. Wire connections are made by simply stripping insulation from the end of the wire, sliding the bare end, of the wire under the clamping plate, and tightening the clamping plate screw. Use the strip gauge molded into the base for ease of wiring to terminals 1 through S. System Sensor smoke detectors and mounting bases are marked with a compatibility identifier located as the last digit of a five digit code stamped on the back of the prod- uct. Connect detectors/mounting bases only to compatible control units as indicated in System Sensor's compatibility chart which contains a current list of UL listed control units and detector head/base combinations. A copy of this list is available from System Sensor upon request. D150-04-00 2 0 0~ 000 BOX (NOT SUPPLIED) 0 0100 00 0 A78-1175-01 The zone wiring of the detector base should be checked before the detector heads are installed in them. To make this possible, this base contains a special spring-type short- ing jumper. After a detector base is properly wired and mounted on an electrical box, make sure that the jumper spring is in contact with the base of Terminal 3. This tem- porary connection shorts the negative-in and negative-out leads and permits the wiring of the loop to be checked for continuity. 156-596-03R BREAK TAB AT DOTTED LINE BY TWISTING TOWARD I OF BASE. The shorting spring in the base will disengage automatically when the detector head is removed from the base. DO NOT remove the shorting spring since it reengages as the detector head is turned into the base, completing the circuit. Tamper-resistance Feature NOTE: Do not use the tamper-resistance feature if the XR2 To make the detector tamper-resistant, use needle-nose pli- ers to break the smaller tab at the scribed line on the tamp- er- resistance tab. Figure 3A shows the location of this tab on the detector mounting bracket. To remove a detector from the bracket after it has been made tamper resistant, use a small screwdriver or other similar tool, to depress the tamper-resistance tab in the slot on the mounting bracket, and rotate the detector counter- clockwise (see Figure 313). removal tool is to be used. NOTE: The decorative ring must be removed before the smoke detector can be detached from the base The tamper-resistant tab, in the detector mounting bracket, after the tamper-resistant capability is enabled. can make the detector tamper-resistant by making it neces- sary to use a small screwdriver or similar tool to detach the detector from the bracket. (cc c P h y s i c a l Properties Table below for additional information). IG-55 is stored as pressurized gas within the cylinder assernbly. When discharged into a p r o t e c t e d s p a c e , I G - 5 5 i s c l e a r a n d d o e s not obscure vision. It leaves no residue and has zero ozone-depleting potential and ze r o g l o b a l - w a r m i n g p o t e n t i a l . APPLICATION Fike Prolneit sstems use IG SD inert gas as the extinguishing media as specified i n N F P A 2 0 0 1 I C c15 is an Inert gas mixture consisting of 50% argon and 50% nitrogen. IG-55 can be used as a total flooding f i r e s u p p r e s s i o n a g e n t p r o t e c t i n g h a z a r d s against most flammable substances. IG-55 extinguishant is particularly useful where a n e n v i r o n m e n t a l l y a c c e p t a b l e f i r e extinguishing system is essential where an electrically non-conductive medium is needed and whene pcoplc co m p a t i b i h t ) i s necessary. IG-55 extinguishant can be used to protect a wide range of applications from s e n s i t i v e e l e c t r i c a l e q u i p m e n t t o industrial applications using flammable liquids. PERFORMANCE IG-55 extinguishes a fire by reducing the residual oxygen concentration to a level t h a t w i l l n o l o n g e r S u p p o r t c o m b u s t i o n , I G - 5 5 must be used in total flooding applications where the protected hazard is enclosed, or f o r p r o t e c t i o n o f e q u i p m e n t t h a t i s s e l f - 4 u enclosed in order to maintain the agent after discharge. Because IG-55 does not decompose when extinguishing a fire, there are no toxic or cor r o s i v e d e c o m p o s i t i o n p r o d u c t s c r e a t e d , other than those that may have been released due to the effects of the fire on the mater i a l s w i t h i n t h e e n c l o s u r e . T h e n o r m a l residual oxygen value in an occupied space is 20% by volume. The lowest residual oxy g e n l i m i t a c c e p t a b l e f o r p e r s o n n e l o c c u p a n c y over a short period of time is 10%. After discharge of a typical IG-55 total flood s y s t e m , t h e r e s u l t i n g r e s i d u a l o x y g e n l e v e l w i l l b e between 10% and 15% by volume. While these residual oxygen levels will not s u p p o r t c o m b u s t i o n o f m o s t f i r e s , p e r s o n n e l w i t h i n the space will still be able to breath normally This will allow sufficient time for egr e s s , p r o v i d e d t h a t t h e r e a r e n o h a r m f u l decomposition products from the materials affected by the fire. All Prolncrt Cylinders are assembled and shipped from the factory with a discharge valve and a protective shipping cap. Shipping caps must be in place while handling or transporting the cylinders. These caps should be retained and stored for future use. An anti-recoil device is provided to ensure that the contents of the cylinder will be released in a slow, controlled rate if the valve is accidentally opened during shipping and handling. The cylinders must be mounted in a upright position. Upon installation, the cylinders shall be secured using cylinder straps or the appropriate pre-configured Prolnert Racking Assemblies. Each Prolnert cylinder includes a pressure switch/gauge combination for visual, as well as remote monitoring of the cylinder pressure at the control panel. In addition to the pressure switch /gauge, each cylinder is furnished with a pneumatic strike-pin, cylinder label, flexible discharge hose and check-valve. Because pipe p r e s s u r e - and nozzle flow rates remain constant throughout the discharge low pressure small diameter piping can be used throughout the protected space, and the ne e d for installing overpressure relief vents in the room is minimized The valve has a forged brass body and is actuated pneumatically ill valves are equipped with a safety disc that will rupture if the pressure within the c ylinder exceeds the rating of the safe!) disc J OPERATION Each Prolnert valve assembly includes a pressure gauge/low-pressure switch .. assembly, P/N 02-10672 and a pneumatic valve actuator (P/N IG71 002) The pressure gauge/low-pressure switch provides both visual pressure monitoring at the cylinder as well as continuous remote monitoring at the control panel. Fiko Prolnert Valve Assembly A master or slave actuator is connected to the pneumatic valve actuator. Du r i n g a system discharge, the master or slave actuator provides nitrogen pressure to t h e pneumatic valve actuator, causing it to open, which actuates the Prolnert valve t h u s releasing the extinguishing agent. The pneumatic valve actuator has both inlet an d outlet ports, allowing up to 60 cylinders to be connected in a series and operated by a single master actuation package. PROINERT SELECTOR VALVES APPLICATION Selector Valves allow a single agent supply to he utilized for protection of multiple hazards, reducing the total amount of agent required. Selector Valves are used to direct the flow of Inert Gas into one specific hazard of a multiple hazard application. DESCRIPTION The Selector Valve body is available in either carbon steel or stainless steel. The valve is a ball valve that blocks the flow of agent through the piping network until the valve is activated. Valve actuation is accomplished either manually or electrically. Manual actuation is accomplished by removing a ring pin and pushing a manual actuation button down. Electric actuation is accomplished when an electrical signal is received by the 24Vdc electric solenoid. Both of these actuation methods result in the opening of a nitrogen cartridge that pneumatically, opens the Selector \7alve. Each Selector Valve is equipped with valve position monitor that gives a visual indication if the valve is open or closed. A typical Selector Valve assembly is made-up of the following items: Selector Valve with Actuator and relief/pop-off valve Solenoid Actuator Kit or Slave Actuator Kit '/4" check valve and 1/4fl90 Degree Elbow ¼" SST Flexible Hose x 3' Long Selector Valves are available in 11 1 1/2, 2 and 3" with NPT threads. Reducing bushings are utilized when connecting to a 1/2, 3/4, 1¼ or 21/2" pipe. INSTALLATION The Selector Valve is installed in the supply piping for the hazard being protected. These valves can be mounted in either the horizontal or vertical position. All the necessary parts are provided to install the Actuator within 3 feet (0.9 m) of the Selector Valve. The Actuator can be located up to 42 feet (13.0 m) from the Selector \Talve. APPROVALS U.L. F.M. ULC Form No. 1.52.01 704 S. 10th Street P.O. Box 610 Blue Springs, Missouri 64013-0610 U.S.A.
