FILE COPY ce]oroA Dynami read® Full Line Sch-40 Replacement Dyna-Thread offers the life expectancy of Sch-40 with superior hydraulics and greater value. Dyna-Thread sprinkler pipe represents an engineering advancement for the sprinkler pipe industry. It combines the safety and longevity of traditional Sch-40 pipe with quality and superior hydraulic advantages. Dyna-Thread's inside diameter is up to 3.6% larger than Sch-40 giving it superior hydraulics. And, when used in combination with Dyna-Flow pipe, down sizing often occurs. Dyna-Thread is fully listed and approved by UL, ULC, and FM for fire sprinkler applications. The life expectancy of Dyna-Thread and Sch40 are equal based on the calculated wall thicknesses per UL. The consistent quality of steel used to make Dyna-Thread facilitates smooth threading and lower maintenance costs. The exterior of Dyna-Thread is protected by a clean, durable mill coating for extended shelf life and easy paint application. @ <~> 9 Listed Approved Listed With its increased strength and lighter weight, Dyna-Thread reduces installation fatigue and is ideal for retro-fit applications. Corrosion Resistance Ratio (CRR) is a UL (Underwriters Laboratory) term for the estimated life expectancy of a pipe joint. This is based on the calculated wall thickness at the base of the first exposed thread, assumed to be the weakest point of the pipe length. Dyna- Thread and Sch-40 have the same calculated wall thicknesses at this point and are both assigned the same CRR of 1.00. The internal surface of all black Allied Tube & Conduit Fire Sprinkler pipe products up to 4.5000" in diameter is coated with our new Antibacterial Formula, "ABF". In scientific laboratory test, ABS proved to have superior resistance to microbial colonization of pipe walls, thereby delaying or possibly preventing the onset of Microbiologically Influenced corrosion (MIC) when the First Sprinkler System is first installed. More wall thickness at the thread (CRR=l .00) gives Dyna-Thread better life expectancy than lightwall threadable pipe joints. Unlike lightwall threadable pipe, Dyna-Thread has no thread gauge warning. Dyna-Thread is approved for standard hanger spacing (15 ft. D.C.), can be used as earthquake sway bracing, and is safe to use as drops. Dyna-Thread is safer to weld on. Dyna-Thread is more widely accepted than lightwall threadable where Sch-40 is specified. Super 40/Dyna-Thread pipe is manufactured to meet: ASTM A- 135, Grade A and is in compliance with NFPA-13. All sizes of Super 40/Dyna- Thread are rated at 300 psi working pressure. Super 40/Dyna-Thread is UL and ULC Listed for wet, dry deluge and pre-action sprinkler systems and FM Approved for use in wet systems. Super 40/Dyna-Thread can be "hot-dip" galvanized to meet FM requirement for dry systems. Super 40/Dyna-Thread is approved for all threaded couplings and welded outlets and is suitable for all roll-grooved, and plain-end fittings. (See listing information). Specifications NPS Nominal I.D. Improper handling and in- stallation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo- nents and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. tamed when exposed to corrosive at- mospheres. Although corrosion resis- tant coated sprinklers have passed the standard corrosion tests of the appli- cable approval agencies, the testing is not representative of all possible cor- rosive atmospheres. Consequently, it is recommended that the end user be consulted with respect to the suitability of these coatings for any given corro- sive environment. The effects of ambi- ent temperature, concentration of chemicals, and gas/chemical velocity, should be considered, as a minimum, along with the corrosive nature of the chemical to which the sprinklers will be exposed. An intermediate level versions of the Series TY-FRB Pendent Sprinklers are detailed in Technical Data Sheet TFP356, and Sprinkler Guards are de- tailed in Technical Data Sheet TFP780 WARNINGS The Series TY-FRB Sprinklers de- scribed herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document, as well as with the applica- ble standards of the National Fire Pro- tection Association, in addition to the standards of any other authorities hav- ing jurisdiction. TABLE C, MAXIMUM WORKING PRESSURE Installation The Series TY-FRB Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with the fol- lowing instructions: NOTES Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch (1,6 mm) for the 1350F/57°C to 3/32 inch (2,4 mm) for the 286°F/141C temperature ratings. A leak tight 1/2 inch NPTsprinklerjoint should be obtained with a torque of 7 to 14 ft.lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). A maxi- mum of 21 ft. lbs. (28,5 Nm) of torque may be used to install sprinklers with 1/2 NPT connections. A leak tight 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be ob- tained with a torque of 10 to 20 ft.lbs. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). A maximum of 30 ft.lbs. (40,7 Nm) of torque is to be used to install sprinklers with 3/4 NPT con- nections. Higher levels of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet and cause leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to make-up for insuffi- cient adjustment in the escutcheon plate by under- or over-tightening the sprinkler. Readjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. The Series TY-FRB Pendent and Up- right Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with the following instruc- tions. Step 1. Pendent sprinklers are to be installed in the pendent position, and upright sprinklers are to be installed in the upright position. Step 2. With pipe thread sealant ap- plied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 3. Tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting using only the W-Type 6 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 14). With reference to Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, the W-Type 6 Sprinkler Wrench is to be applied to the sprinkler wrench flats. The Series TY-FRB Recessed Pen- dent Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with the following instruc- tions. Step A. After installing the Style 10. 20, 30, 0r40 Mounting Plate, as appli- cable, over the sprinkler threads and with pipe thread sealant applied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprin- kler into the sprinkler fitting. Step B. Tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting using only the W-Type 7 Recessed Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 15). Care and Maintenance The Series TY-FRB Sprinklers must be maintained and serviced in accord- ance with the following instructions: NOTES Before closing a fire protection system main control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it controls, permission to shutdown the affected fire protection system must be obtained from the proper authorities and all personnel who may be affected by this action must be notified. The owner must assure that the sprin- klers are not used for hanging of any objects; otherwise, non-operation in the event of a fire orinadvertent opera- tion may result. Absence of an escutcheon, which is used to cover a clearance hole, may delay the time to sprinkler operation in a fire situation. Sprinklers that are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Modi- fied sprinklers must be replaced. Sprinklers that have been exposed to corrosive products of combustion, but have not operated, should be replaced if they cannot be completely cleaned by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth or by brushing it with a soft bristle brush. Care must be exercised to avoid dam- age to the sprinklers - before, during, and after installation. Sprinklers dam- aged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be re- placed. Also, replace any sprinkler that has a cracked bulb or that has lost liquid from its bulb. (Ref. Installation Section). Frequent visual inspections are rec- ommended to be initially performed for corrosion resistant coated sprinklers, after the installation has been corn- TFPI7I - 2-7/8" DIA. - 5/8±1/4" (73,0 mm) 3/4' (19,1 mm) (15,9±6,4 mm) - 2-1/4" DIA. It uses a two-piece Style 10(1/2 inch NPT) or Style 40(3/4 inch NPT) Recessed Escutcheon. The Recessed Escutcheon provides 1/2 inch (12,7 mm) of recessed adjust- ment or up to 3/4 inch (19,1 mm) of total adjustment from the flush pen- dent position. The adjustment pro- vided by the Recessed Escutcheon re- duces the accuracy to which the fixed pipe drops to the sprinklers must be cut. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch (1,6 mm) for the 1350F/570C to 3/32 inch (2,4 mm) for the 360 °F/182°C temperature ratings. A 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a minimum to maxi- mum torque of 7 to 14 ft.lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). A 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a mini- mum to maximum torque of 10 to 20 ft.lbs. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). Higher levels of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet and cause leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to make-up for insuffi- cient adjustment in the escutcheon plate by under- or over-tightening the TFPI5I Page 7 of 8 sprinkler. Readjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. The Series TY-B Pendent and Up- right Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with the following instruc- tions. Step I. Figure 7), except that an 8 or 10 inch adjustable Crescent wrench is to be used for wax coated sprinklers. With reference to Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4 the W-Type 7 Sprinkler Wrench or the adjustable Crescent wrench, as applicable is to be applied to the wrench flats. When installing wax coated sprinklers with the adjustable Crescent wrench, additional care needs to be exercised to prevent damage to the wax coating on the sprinkler wrench flats or frame arms and, consequently, exposure of bare metal to the corrosive environ- ment. The jaws of the wrench should be opened sufficiently wide to pass over the wrench flats without damag- ing the wax coating. Before wrench tightening the sprinkler, the jaws of the wrench are to be adjusted to just con- tact the sprinkler wrench flats. After wrench tightening the sprinkler, loosen the wrench jaws before removing the wrench. After installation, the sprinkler wrench flats and frame arms must be in- spected and the wax coating re- touched (repaired) whenever the coat- ing has been damaged and bare metal is exposed. The wax coating on the wrench flats can be retouched by gen- tly applying a heated 1/8 inch diameter steel rod to the areas of wax that have been damaged, to smooth it back over areas where bare metal is exposed. NOTES Only retouching of the wax coating ap- plied to the wrench flats and frame arms is permitted, and the retouching is to be performed only at the time of the initial sprinkler installation. The steel rod should be heated only to the point at which it can begin to melt the wax, and appropriate precautions need to be taken, when handling the heated rod, in order to prevent the installer from being burned. The Series TY-B Recessed Pendent Sprinklers must be installed in ac- cordance with the following instruc- tions. Step A. After installing the Style 10 or 40 Mounting Plate, as applicable, over the sprinkler threads and with pipe thread sealant applied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step B. Tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting using only the W-Type 7 Recessed Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 8). With reference to Figure 3 or4, the W-Type 7 Recessed Sprinkler Wrench is to be applied to the sprinkler wrench flats. Step C. After the ceiling has been in- stalled or the finish coat has been ap- plied, slide on the Style 10 or 40 Clo- sure over the Series TY-B Sprinkler and push the Closure over the Mount- ing Plate until its flange comes in con- tact with the ceiling. Care and Maintenance The Series TY-B Sprinklers must be maintained and serviced in accord- ance with the following instructions: NOTES Before closing a fire protection system main control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it controls, permission to shutdown the affected fire protection system must be obtained from the proper authorities and all personnel who may be affected by this action must be notified. The owner must assure that the sprin- klers are not used for hanging of any objects; otherwise, non-operation in the event of a fire or inadvertent opera- tion may result. Frequent visual inspections are rec- ommended to be initially performed for corrosion resistant coated sprinklers, after the installation has been com- pleted, to verify the integrity of the cor- rosion resistant coating. Thereafter, annual inspections per NFPA 25 should suffice; however, instead of in- specting from the floor level, a random sampling of close-up visual inspec- tions should be made, so as to better determine the exact sprinkler condi- tion and the long term integrity of the corrosion resistant coating, as it may be affected by the corrosive conditions present. The owner is responsible for the in- spection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and de- vices in compliance with this docu- ment, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protec- tion Association (e.g., NFPA 25), in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. The in- stalling contractor or sprinkler manu- facturer should be contacted relative to any questions. Automatic sprinkler systems should be inspected, tested, and maintained by a qualified Inspection Service in ac- cordance with local requirements and/or national codes. When the rated temperature is reached, the fluid expands sufficiently to shatter the glass bulb, which then allows the sprinkler to activate and flow water. Design Criteria The Tyco® Series EC-11 and EC-14 Extended Coverage Sprinklers must only be installed in accordance with the applicable UL and C-UL Listing or FM Approval requirements as indi- cated below. Only the Style 30 or 40 Recessed Escutcheon is to be used for recessed installation, as applicable (Ref. Table A, B, and C).. UL and C-UL Listing Requirements 1. The Series EC-1 1 and EC-1 4 Sprin- klers may be used for the coverage areas shown in Table D, based on maintaining the minimum specified flow rate as a function of coverage area and hazard group for all of the sprinklers in the design area. The Series EC-1 I and EC-14 Sprin- klers are permitted to be used with unobstructed or non-combustible obstructed ceiling construction as defined and permitted by NFPA 13. For example: Unobstructed, combustible or non- combustible, ceiling construction with a deflector to ceiling/roof deck distance of Ito 12 inches (25 to 300 mm). Obstructed, non-combustible, ceil- ing construction with a deflector lo- cation below structural members of 1 to 6 inches (25 to 150 mm) and a maximum deflector to ceiling/roof deck distance of 22 inches (550 mm). The Series EC-1 1 and EC-I4 Sprin- klers having been specifically tested and listed for non-combustible ob- structed construction are permitted to be used within trusses or bar joists having non-combustible web mem- bers greater than 1 inch (25.4 mm) when applying the 4 times obstruc- tion criteria rule defined under "Ob- structions to Sprinkler Discharge Pattern Development". The minimum allowable spacing be- tween the Series EC-Il and EC-I4 Sprinklers, to prevent cold solder- ing, is 8 feet (2,4 m) for upright sprin- klers and 9 feet (2,7 m) for pendent sprinklers. The Series EC-1 I and EC-I 4 Sprin- klers are to be installed in accord- ance with all other requirements of NFPA 13 for extended coverage up- right and pendent sprinklers. For ex- ample: obstructions to sprinkler dis- charge, obstructions to sprinkler pattern development, obstructions to prevent sprinkler discharge from reaching hazard, clearance to stor- age, etc. UL and C-UL Specific Application Listing Requirements For Installation Under Concrete Tees The Series EC-11 and EC-I4 Ex- tended Coverage Upright and Pendent Sprinklers (1Y5137, TY5237, TY6137 & TY6237) have a UL and C-UL Spe- cific Application Listing for use under concrete tees when installed as fol- lows: The stems of the concrete tee con- struction must spaced at less than 7.5 feet (2,3 m) on center but more than 3 feet (0,9 m) on center. The depth of the concrete tees must not exceed 30 inches (762 mm). The maximum permitted concrete tee length is 32 feet (9,8 m); however, where the concrete tee length ex- ceeds 32 feet (9,8 m), non-combus- tible baffles, equal in height to the depth of the tees, can be installed so that the space between the tees does not exceed 32 feet (9,8 m) in length. The sprinkler deflectors are to be located in a horizontal plane at or above 1 inch (25,4 mm) below the bottom of the concrete tee stems. When the sprinkler deflectors are located higher than a horizontal plane 1 inch (251,4 mm) beneath the bottom of the concrete tee stems, the obstruction to sprinkler dis- charge criteria requirements of NFPA 13 for extended coverage up- right sprinklers applies. FM Approval Requirements The Series EC-11 and EC-14 Ex- tended Coverage Sprinklers are to be installed in accordance with the appli- cable Factory Mutual Loss Prevention Data Sheet for limited use in buildings of specific roof construction and for the protection of certain specific ordinary hazard (non-storage and/or non-flam- mable or combustible liquid) occupan- cies. These criteria may differ from UL and/or NFPA criteria, therefore the de- signer should review and become fa- miliar with Factory Mutual require- ments before proceeding with design. Installation The Series EC-11 and EC-14 Sprin- klers must be installed in accordance with the following instructions: NOTES Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch (1,6 mm) for the 135°F157°C to 3/32 inch (2,4 mm) for the 286°F/141°C temperature ratings. A 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a minimum to maxi- mum torque of 10 to 20 ft.lbs. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). Higher levels of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet with conse- quent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to compensate for in- sufficient adjustment in an Escutcheon Plate by under- or over-tightening the Sprinkler. Readjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. Step 1. The sprinkler must be installed with the deflector parallel to the mount- ing surface. Pendent sprinklers must be installed in the pendent position, and upright sprinklers must be in- stalled in the upright position. Step 2. After installing the Style 30, 40, or 60 mounting plate (or other escutch- eon, as applicable) over the sprinkler pipe threads and with pipe thread sealant applied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 3. Wrench tighten upright or pen- dent sprinklers using only the W-Type 3 (End A) Sprinkler Wrench. When in- stalling the pendent sprinkler with Style 30, 40, or 60 Escutcheon, wrench tighten the sprinkler using only the W-Type 22 Sprinkler Wrench. The wrench recess of the applicable sprin- kler wrench (Ref. Figure 5 and 6) is to be applied to the sprinkler wrench flats (Ref. Figure 1). Sprinklers that are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated, or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Sprinklers dam- aged by dropping, striking, wrench MOUNTING SURFACE (3,2 mm) CLOSURE 3/4" NPT 2-5/16" (58,7 mm) MOUNTING 1-13/16" (46,0 mm) PLATE twist/slippage, or the like, must be re- placed. Also, replace any sprinkler that has a cracked bulb or that has lost liquid from its bulb. (Ref. Installation Section). Automatic sprinkler systems should be inspected, tested, and maintained by a qualified Inspection Service in accord- "FITTING SIDE" TOWARDS SPRINKLER FITTING WRENCH RECESS (END "X) FIGURE 5 W-TYPE 3 SPRINKLER WRENCH WRENCH RECESS - - I LL WRENCH HEX FIGURE 6 W-TYPE 22 RECESSED SPRINKLER WRENCH ance with local requirements and/or national codes. 2-7/8" DIA.
