They are intended for use in automatic sprinkler systems designed in accord- ance with standard installation rules (e.g., NFPA 13) for a maximum cover- age area of 400 ft2 (37,2 m2), as com- pared to the maximum coverage area of 130 ft2 (12,1 m2) for standard cover- age sprinklers used in ordinary haz- ard occupancies or 225 ft2 (20,6 m2) for standard coverage sprinklers used in light hazard occupancies. The Series EC-11 and EC-14 Sprin- klers feature a UL and C-UL Listing that permits their use with unob- structed or non-combustible ob- structed ceiling construction as de- fined and permitted by NFPA 13, as well as a specific application listing for use under concrete tees. The Series EC-11 and EC-14 Ex- tended Coverage Sprinklers have been fire tested to compare their per- formance to that of standard coverage spray sprinklers. These tests have shown that the protection provided is equal to or more effective than stand- ard coverage spray sprinklers. IMPORTANT Always refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP700 for the "INSTALLER WARNING" that provides cautions with respect to handling and instal- lation of sprinkler systems and com- ponents. Improper handling and in- stallation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo- nents and cause the sprinkler to fall to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. Page 1 of 8 Corrosion resistant coatings, where applicable, are utilized to extend the life of copper alloy sprinklers beyond that which would otherwise be ob- tained when exposed to corrosive at- mospheres. Although corrosion resis- tant coated sprinklers have passed the standard corrosion tests of the appli- cable approval agencies, the testing is not representative of all possible cor- rosive atmospheres. Consequently, it is recommended that the end user be consulted with respect to the suitability of these corrosion resistant coatings for any given corrosive environment. The effects of ambient temperature, concentration of chemicals, and gas/chemical velocity, should be con- sidered, as a minimum, along with the corrosive nature of the chemical to which the sprinklers will be exposed. WARNINGS The Series EC-11 and EC-14 Ex- tended Coverage Sprinklers described herein must be installed and main- tained in compliance with this docu- ment, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protec- tion Association, in addition to the standards of any other authorities hav- ing jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these de- vices. The owner is responsible for maintain- ing their fire protection system and de- vices in proper operating condition. The installing contractor or sprinkler manufacturer should be contacted with any questions. When the rated temperature is reached, the fluid expands sufficiently to shatter the glass bulb, which then allows the sprinkler to activate and flow water. Design Criteria The Tyco Series EC-11 and EC-14 Extended Coverage Sprinklers must only be installed in accordance with the applicable UL and C-UL Listing or FM Approval requirements as indi- cated below. Only the Style 30 or 40 Recessed Escutcheon is to be used for recessed installation, as applicable (Ref. Table A, B, and C).. UL and C-UL Listing Requirements The Series EC-1 1 and EC-14 Sprin- klers may be used for the coverage areas shown in Table D, based on maintaining the minimum specified flow rate as a function of coverage area and hazard group for all of the sprinklers in the design area. The Series EC-1 1 and EC-14 Sprin- klers are permitted to be used with unobstructed or non-combustible obstructed ceiling construction as defined and permitted by NFPA 13. For example: Unobstructed, combustible or non- combustible, ceiling construction with a deflector to ceiling/roof deck distance of 1 t 12 inches (25 to 300 mm). Obstructed, non-combustible, ceil- ing construction with a deflector lo- cation below structural members of I to 6 inches (25 to 150 mm) and a maximum deflector to ceiling/roof deck distance of 22 inches (550 mm). The Series EC-1 1 and EC-14 Sprin- klers having been specifically tested and listed for non-combustible ob- structed construction are permitted to be used within trusses or bar joists having non-combustible web mem- bers greater than 1 inch (25.4 mm) when applying the 4 times obstruc- tion criteria rule defined under "Ob- structions to Sprinkler Discharge Pattern Development". The minimum allowable spacing be- tween the Series EC-il and EC-14 Sprinklers, to prevent cold solder- ing, is 8 feet (2,4 m) for upright sprin- klers and 9 feet (2,7 m) for pendent sprinklers. The Series EC-1 1 and EC-14 Sprin- klers are to be installed in accord- ance with all other requirements of NFPA 13 for extended coverage up- right and pendent sprinklers. For ex- ample: obstructions to sprinkler dis- charge, obstructions to sprinkler pattern development, obstructions to prevent sprinkler discharge from reaching hazard, clearance to stor- age, etc. UL and C-UL Specific Application Listing Requirements For Installation Under Concrete Tees The Series EC-11 and EC-14 Ex- tended Coverage Upright and Pendent Sprinklers (TY5137, TY5237, TY61 37 & TY6237) have a UL and C-UL Spe- cific Application Listing for use under concrete tees when installed as fol- lows: The stems of the concrete tee con- struction must spaced at less than 7.5 feet (2,3 m) on center but more than 3 feet (0,9 m) on center. The depth of the concrete tees must not exceed 30 inches (762 mm). The maximum permitted concrete tee length is 32 feet (9,8 m); however, where the concrete tee length ex- ceeds 32 feet (9,8 m), non-combus- tible baffles, equal in height to the depth of the tees, can be installed so that the space between the tees does not exceed 32 feet (9,8 m) in length. The sprinkler deflectors are to be located in a horizontal plane at or above 1 inch (25,4 mm) below the bottom of the concrete tee stems. When the sprinkler deflectors are located higher than a horizontal plane 1 inch (251,4 mm) beneath the bottom of the concrete tee stems, the obstruction to sprinkler dis- charge criteria requirements of NFPA 13 for extended coverage up- right sprinklers applies. FM Approval Requirements The Series EC-11 and EC-14 Ex- tended Coverage Sprinklers are to be installed in accordance with the appli- cable Factory Mutual Loss Prevention Data Sheet for limited use in buildings of specific roof construction and for the protection of certain specific ordinary hazard (non-storage and/or non-flam- mable or combustible liquid) occupan- cies. These criteria may differ from UL and/or NFPA criteria, therefore the de- signer should review and become fa- miliar with Factory Mutual require- ments before proceeding with design. Installation The Series EC-11 and EC-14 Sprin- klers must be installed in accordance with the following instructions: NOTES Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch (1,6 mm) for the 135°F/57"C to 3/32 inch (2,4 mm) for the 286°F/141°C temperature ratings. A 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a minimum to maxi- mum torque of 10 to 20 ft.lbs. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). Higher levels of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet with conse- quent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to compensate for in- sufficient adjustment in an Escutcheon Plate by under- or over-tightening the Sprinkler. Readjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. Step 1. The sprinkler must be installed with the deflector parallel to the mount- ing surface. Pendent sprinklers must be installed in the pendent position, and upright sprinklers must be in- stalled in the upright position. Step 2. After installing the Style 30, 40, or 60 mounting plate (or other escutch- eon, as applicable) over the sprinkler pipe threads and with pipe thread sealant applied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 3. Wrench tighten upright or pen- dent sprinklers using only the W-Type 3 (End A) Sprinkler Wrench. When in- stalling the pendent sprinkler with Style 30, 40, or 60 Escutcheon, wrench tighten the sprinkler using only the W-Type 22 Sprinkler Wrench. The wrench recess of the applicable sprin- kler wrench (Ref. Figure 5 and 6) is to be applied to the sprinkler wrench flats (Ref. Figure 1). Page 6 of 8 TFP220 2-7/8 DIA. (73,0 mm) 2-1/4' DIA. Sprinklers that are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated, or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Modi- fied sprinklers must be replaced. Sprinklers that have been exposed to corrosive products of combustion, but have not operated, should be replaced if they cannot be completely cleaned by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth or by brushing it with a soft bristle brush. Care must be exercised to avoid dam- age to the sprinklers - before, during, and after installation. Sprinklers dam- aged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be re- placed. Also, replace any sprinkler that has a cracked bulb or that has lost liquid from its bulb. (Ref. Installation Section). Frequent visual inspections are rec- ommended to be initially performed for corrosion resistant coated sprinklers, after the installation has been com- pleted, to verify the integrity of the cor- rosion resistant coating. Thereafter, annual inspections per NFPA 25 should suffice; however, instead of in- specting from the floor level, a random sampling of close-up visual inspec- tions should be made, so as to better determine the exact sprinkler condi- tion and the long term integrity of the corrosion resistant coating, as it may be affected by the corrosive conditions present. The owner is responsible for the in- spection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and de- vices in compliance with this docu- ment, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protec- tion Association (e.g., NFPA 25), in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. The in- stalling contractor or sprinkler manu- facturer should be contacted relative to any questions. It is the best choice for archi- tecturally sensitive areas such as ho- tel lobbies, office buildings, churches, and restaurants. Each unit includes a Cover Plate As- sembly that conceals the sprinkler op- erating components above the ceiling. The separable two-piece design of the Cover Plate and Support Cup Assem- blies allows installation of the sprin- klers and pressure testing of the fire protection system prior to installation of a suspended ceiling or application of the finish coating to a fixed ceiling. They also permit removal of suspend- ed ceiling panels for access to building service equipment without having to first shut down the fire protection sys- tem and remove sprinklers. Also, the separable two-piece design of the Sprinkler provides for 1/2 inch (12,7 mm) of vertical adjustment, to provide a measure of flexibility with re- gard to which the length of fixed pipe drops to the sprinklers must be cut. The Series RFII Sprinklers are shipped with a Disposable Protective Cap. The IMPORTANT Always refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP700 for the "INSTALLER WARNING" that provides cautions with respect to handling and instal- lation of sprinkler systems and com- ponents. Improper handling and in- stallation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its components and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. Protective Cap is temporarily removed for installation, and then it can be re- placed to help protect the sprinkler while the ceiling is being installed or finished. The tip of the Protective Cap can also be used to mark the center of the ceiling hole into plaster board, ceiling tiles, etc. by gently pushing the ceiling product against the Protec- tive Cap. When the ceiling installation is complete the Protective Cap is re- moved and the Cover Plate Assembly installed. As an option, the Series RFII Standard Response (5 mm bulb) "Royal Flush II" Concealed Pendent Sprinklers may be fitted with a silicone Air and Dust Seal (Ref. Fig. 5). The Air and Dust Seal is intended for sensitive areas where it is desirable to stop air and dust travel through the cover plate from the area above the ceiling. The Series RFII Concealed Pendent Sprinklers described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document and with the appli- cable standards of the National Fire Protection Association, in addition to the standards of any authorities having jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for maintain- ing their fire protection system and de- vices in proper operating condition. The installing contractor or sprinkler manufacturer should be contacted with any questions. Down drafts through the Support Cup could delay sprinkler operation in a fire situation. Installation The Tyco® Series RFll must be in- stalled in accordance with the follow- ing instructions: ALI1IL1 Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss of liquid from the bulb. With the sprin- kler held horizontally, a small air bub- ble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch (1,6 mm) for the 1550F/680C and 3/32 inch (2,4 mm) for the 200°F/93°C temperature ratings. A 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a minimum to max- imum torque of 7 to 14 ft.lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). Higher levels of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet with conse- quent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to compensate for in- sufficient adjustment in the Sprinkler Assembly by under-or over-tightening the Sprinkler/Support Cup Assembly. Readjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. Step 1. The sprinkler must only be in- stalled in the pendent position and with the centerline of the sprinkler per- pendicular to the mounting surface. Step 2. Remove the Protective Cap. Step 3. With pipe thread sealant ap plied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 4. Wrench tighten the sprinkler using only the RFll Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 3). The RFll Sprinkler Wrench is to be applied to the Sprin- kler as shown in Figure 3. Step 5. Replace the Protective Cap (Ref. Figure 4) by pushing it upwards until it bottoms out against the Sup- port Cup. The Protective Cap helps prevent damage to the Deflector and Arms during ceiling installation and/or during application of the finish coating of the ceiling. It may also be used to locate the center of the clearance hole by gently pushing the ceiling material up against the center point of the Pro- tective Cap. groTm As long as the Protective Cap remains in place, the system is considered to be "Out of Service' Step 6. After the ceiling has been completed with the 2-1/2 inch (63,5 mm) diameter clearance hole and in preparation for installing the Cover Plate Assembly, remove and discard the Protective Cap, and verify that the Deflector moves up and down freely. If the Sprinkler has been damaged and the Deflector does not move up and down freely, replace the entire Sprin- kler assembly. Do not attempt to mod- ify or repair a damaged sprinkler. Step 7. When installing an Air and Dust Seal, refer to Figure 5, otherwise proceed to Step 8. To attach the Air and Dust Seal, verify the angle of the outside edge of the seal is oriented ac- cording to Figure 5. Start the edge of the Retainer in the grooved slot of the Air and Dust Seal and continue around the retainer until the entire Air and Dust Seal is engaged. Step 8. Screw on the Cover Plate/Re- tainer Assembly until the Retainer Fig- ure 2 (or Air and Dust Seal -Figure 5) contacts with the ceiling. Do not con- tinue to screw on the Cover Plate/Re- tainer Assembly such that it lifts a ceil- ing panel out of its normal position. If the Cover Plate/Retainer Assembly cannot be engaged with the Support Cup or the Cover Plate/Retainer As- sembly cannot be engaged sufficiently to contact the ceiling, the Sprinkler Fit- ting must be repositioned. Care and Maintenance The Tyco® Series RFII must be maintained and serviced in accordance with the following instructions: L'Li)tL€ Absence of the Cover Plate Assembly may delay sprinkler operation in a fire situation. Factory painted Cover Plates MUST NOT be repainted. They should be re- placed, if necessary, by factory painted units. Non-factory applied paint may adversely delay or prevent sprinkler operation in the event of a fire. Do not pull the Cover Plate relative to the Enclosure. Separation may result. Before closing a fire protection sys- tem main control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it controls, permission to shut down the affected fire protection system must be obtained from the proper authorities and all personnel who may be affected by this action must be notified. Sprinklers that are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Modi- fied or over heated sprinklers must be replaced. Care must be exercised to avoid dam- age to the sprinklers -before, during, and after installation. Sprinklers dam- aged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be re- placed. Also, replace any sprinkler that has a cracked bulb or that has lost liquid from its bulb. (Ref. Installation Section). If a sprinkler must be removed, do not reinstall it or a replacement without reinstalling the Cover Plate Assembly. If a Cover Plate Assembly becomes dislodged during service, replace it immediately. When limited water pressure is available, the ELOC is the best choice for architecturally sensitive areas such as hotel lobbies, office buildings, churches, and restaurants. They are intended for use in automatic sprinkler systems designed in accordance with standard installation rules (e.g., NFPA 13). The fast response thermal sensitivity rating of the Model ELOC (TY5522) provides for a quick response extended coverage (QREC) rating up to an 18 ft. x 18 ft. coverage area. Each unit includes a Cover Plate Assembly that conceals the sprinkler operating components above the ceiling. The separable two-piece design of the Cover Plate and Support Cup Assemblies allows installation of the sprinklers and pressure testing of the fire protection system prior to installation of a suspended ceiling or application of the finish coating to a fixed ceiling. They also permit removal of suspended ceiling panels for IMPORTANT Always refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP700 for the "INSTALLER WARNING" that provides cautions with respect to handling and instal- lation of sprinkler systems and com- ponents. Improper handling and in- stallation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its components and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. access to building service equipment without having to first shut down the fire protection system and remove sprinklers. Also, the separable two-piece design of the the Sprinkler provides for 3/4 inch (19,1 mm) of vertical adjustment to provide a measure of flexibility with regard to which the length of fixed pipe drops to the sprinklers must be cut. The Model ELOC Sprinklers are shipped with a Disposable Protective Cap. The Protective Cap is temporarily removed for installation, and it can be replaced to help protect the sprinkler while the ceiling is being installed or finished. The tip of the Protective Cap can also be used to mark the center of the ceiling hole into plaster board, ceiling tiles, etc. by gently pushing the ceiling product against the Protective Cap. When the ceiling installation is complete the Protective Cap is removed and the Cover Plate Assembly installed. As an option, the Model ELOC Pendent Sprinklers may be fitted with a silicone Air and Dust Seal (Ref. Fig. 4). The Air and Dust Seal is intended for sensitive areas where it is desirable to stop air and dust travel through the cover plate from the area above the ceiling. NOTICE The Model ELOC Pendent Sprinklers described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document and with the applica- ble standards of the National Fire Pro- tection Association, in addition to the standards of any authorities having ju- risdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for maintaining their fire protection system and devices in proper operating condition. The ELOC Pendent Sprinklers are only listed and approved with the ELOC Concealed Cover Plates having a factory applied finish. The ELOC must not be used in applications where the air pressure above the ceiling is greater than that below. Down drafts through the Support Cup could delay sprinkler operation in a fire situation. Installation The Tyco® Model ELOC must be in- stalled in accordance with the follow- ing instructions: IYI.)tLI A leak tight 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a mini- mum to maximum torque of 10 to 20 ft.lbs. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). Higher levels of torque may distort the sprinkler in- let with consequent leakage or impair- ment of the sprinkler. Step 3. With pipe thread sealant ap- plied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 4. Wrench tighten the sprinkler using only the W-Type 18 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 3). The W-Type 18 Sprinkler Wrench is to be applied to the Sprinkler as shown in Figure 3. Step 5. Replace the Protective Cap (Ref. Figure 2) by pushing it upwards until it bottoms out against the Sup- port Cup. The Protective Cap helps prevent damage to the Deflector and Arms during ceiling installation and/or during application of the finish coating of the ceiling. It may also be used to locate the center of the clearance hole Page 4 of 6 TFP250 by gently pushing the ceiling material against the center point of the Protec- tive Cap. iør.itig* As long as the Protective Cap remains in place, the system is considered to be "Out of Service". Step 6. Step 7. When installing an Air and Dust Seal, refer to Figure 4, otherwise proceed to Step 8. To attach the Air and Dust Seal, verify the angle of the outside edge of the seal is oriented ac- cording to Figure 4. Start the edge of the Retainer in the grooved slot of the Air and Dust Seal and continue around the retainer until the entire Air and Dust Seal is engaged. Step 8. Screw on the Cover Plate/Re- tainer Assembly until the Retainer Fig- ure 2 (or Air and Dust Seal -Figure 4) contacts with the ceiling. Do not con- tinue to screw on the Cover Plate/Re- tainer Assembly such that it lifts a ceil- ing panel out of its normal position. If the Cover Plate/Retainer Assembly cannot be engaged with the Support Cup or the Cover Plate/Retainer As- sembly cannot be engaged sufficient- ly to contact the ceiling, the Sprinkler Fitting must be repositioned. Care and Maintenance The Tyco® Model ELOC must be maintained and serviced in accordance with the following instructions: Absence of the Cover Plate Assembly may delay sprinkler operation in a fire situation. When properly installed, there is a nominal 3/32 inch (2,4 mm) air gap be- tween the lip of the Cover Plate and the ceiling, as shown in Figure 2. This air gap is necessary for proper opera- tion of the sprinkler. If the ceiling is to be repainted after the installation of the Sprinkler, care must be exercised to ensure that the new paint does NOT seal off any of the air gap. Factory painted Cover Plates MUST NOT be repainted. They should be re- placed, if necessary, by factory paint- ed units. Non-factory applied paint may, adversely delay or prevent sprin- kler operation in the event of a fire. Do not pull the Cover Plate relative to the Enclosure. Separation may result. Before closing a fire protection sys- tem main control valve for mainte- nance work on the fire protection sys- tem that it controls, permission to shut down the affected fire protection sys- tem must be obtained from the prop- er authorities and all personnel who may be affected by this action must be notified. Sprinklers that are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Modi- fied or over-heated sprinklers must be replaced. Care must be exercised to avoid dam- age to the sprinklers -before, during, and after installation. Sprinklers dam- aged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be replaced. If a sprinkler must be removed, do not reinstall it or a replacement without re- installing the Cover Plate Assembly. If a Cover Plate Assembly becomes dislodged during service, replace it immediately. The owner is responsible for the in- spection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and devic- es in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable stan- dards of the National Fire Protection Association (e.g., NFPA 25), in addition to the standards of any other authori- ties having jurisdiction.
