Description/Explanation:
This proposed amendment to the City of Carlsbad Zoning Code is initiated by the City Planner
for the purpose of updating Carlsbad's second dwelling unit regulations (Carlsbad Municipal
Code Sec. 21.10.030) for consistency with recent changes to state law. California Government
Code section 65852.2 establishes regulations for the development of second dwelling units,
and Assembly Bill 2299 and Senate Bill 1069, which amended Government Code section
65852.2, were adopted in 2016 and take effect Jan. 1, 2017.
