Please read all instructions carefully before beginning installation. A copy of this document is required by NFPA 72 to be maintained on site. Description The OSYSU is used to monitor the open position of an OS&Y (outside screw and yoke) type gate valve. This device is available in two models; the OSYSU-1, containing one set of SPDT (Form C) contacts and the OSYSU-2, containing two sets of SPOT (Form C) contacts. These switches mount conveniently to most OS&Y valves ranging in size from 2" to 12" (50mm to 300mm). They will mount on some valves as small as ',i" (12.5mm). The cover is held in place by two tamper resistant screws that require a special tool to remove. The tool is furnished with each device. Testing The operation of the OSYSU and its associated protective monitoring system shall be inspected, tested, and maintained in accordance with all applicable local and national codes and standards and/or the Authority 1-laying Jurisdiction (manufacturer recommends quarterly or more frequently). A minimum test shall consist of turning the valve wheel towards the closed position. The OSYSU shall operate within the first two revolutions of the wheel. Fully close the valve and ensure that the OSYSU does not restore. Fully open the valve and ensure that the OSYSU restores to normal only when the valve is fully opened. A CAUTION Close the valve fully to detenninc that the stem threads do not activate the switch. The switch being activated by the stem threads could result in afaLe valve open indication. The center position is the normal installation position. Normal is when the switch is installed on the OS&Y valve, the valve is fully open and the trip rod of the OSYSU is in the groove of the valve stem. Closing the valve causes the trip rod to ride up out of the groove and activates the switches. Removing the OSYSU from the valve causes the spring to pull the trip rod in the other direction and activates the switches. Visual Switch Status Indication There are 3 visual indicators to determine the status of the switches. Fig 1; the actuator button of the micro switches are on the raised section of the switch actuator. Fig 2; the trip rod is perpendicular to the base and lined up with the alignment mark on the mounting bracket. Fig 3; the white visual indicator is visible through the window on the back of the switch actuator. A final test is to meter the contacts marked COM and N.O. to ensure they are an open circuit when the valve is open and that they close and have continuity within 2 revolutions of turning the valve handwhecl towards the closed position and the contacts remain closed as the valve is completely closed and until the valve is completely opened when the trip rod drops back into the groove in the valve stem. Remove and discard "E" ring and roller from the trip rod, With the valve in the FULL OPEN position, locate the OSYSU across the valve yoke as far as possible from the valve gland so that the spring loaded trip rod of the OSYSU is pulled against the non threaded portion of the valve stem. Position the OSYSU with the bracket near the handwheel as shown in Fig. 6 if possible to avoid creating a pinch point between the wheel and the OSYSU. Loosen the locking screw that holds the trip rod in place and adjust the rod length (see Fig. 5). When adjusted properly, the rod should extend past the valve screw, but not so far that it contacts the clamp bar. Tighten the locking screw to 5 in-lbs minimum to hold the trip rod in place and properly seal the enclosure. ,VOTE. If trip rod length is excessive, loosen the locking screw and remove the trip rod from the trip lever. Using pliers, break off the one (1) inch long notched section (see Fig. 10). Reinstall trip rod and repeat Step 3 procedure. Mount the OSYSU loosely with the carriage bolts and clamp bar supplied. On valves with limited clearance use i-hooks supplied instead of the carnage bolts and clamp bar to mount the OSYSU. Mark the valve stem at the center of the trip rod. Remove the OSYSU. Utilizing a 3/16" or 1/4" diameter straight file, file a 1/8" minimum depth groove centered on the mark on the valve stern. Deburr and smooth the edges of the groove to prevent damage to the valve packing and to allow the trip rod to move easily in and out of the groove as the valve is operated. :\01E: A groove depth 01' up to approximately 3/16" can Mount the OSYSU on the valve yoke with the spring loaded trip rod of the OSYSU pulled against the valve stem and centered in the groove of the stem. If possible, position the OSYSU with the flat side of the bracket toward the hand wheel, as shown in Fig. 6, to help avoid creating a pinch point between the wheel and OSYSU. When in this preferred mounting position, it is usually best to use the white indicator visible through the window, as illustrated in Fig. 3, to aid in initially locating the OSYSU in the correct position on the yoke. If the unit must be installed inverted with the white indicator no longer easily visible, use the visual indicators of the actuator buttons on the micro-switches, as illustrated in Fig. 1, or the trip rod alignment mark on the bracket, as illustrated in Fig. 2 to aid in initially locating the OSYSU. Final adjustment can be made by slightly loosening the two screws on the bracket and using the fine adjustment feature (see Fig. 5). The adjustment is correct when the plungers on the switches are depressed by the actuator and there is no continuity between the COM and NO terminals on the switches. Tighten the adjustment screws and all mounting hardware securely (20 in-lbs minimum). Cheek to insure that the rod moves out of the groove easily and that the switches activate Within two turns when the valve is operated from the FULL OPEN towards the CLOSED position. MUELLER® A-20806 MUELLER® A-20806 ADJUSTABLE VERTICAL ADJUSTABLE VERTICAL INDICATOR POST INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INDICATOR POST YEAR DATE 2000 SOR'? VALVE CI? TYPICAL INSTALLATION OF THE MODEL A-20806 VERTICAL INDICATOR POST GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Model A-20806 Vertical Indicator Posts (Ref. Figure A) are designed to Operate 4 through 16 inch non-rising stem (inside screw) gate valves, which are used to control an underground water supply to automatic sprinkler, water spray deluge, foam-water deluge, or standpipe fire protection systems. They permit operation of underground valves while providing an above ground visual indication as to whether the valves are open or shut in addition to a means for locking the valves in a particular position. Indicator posts provide for valve operation from outside of the protected property and, therefore, the opportunity for more prompt valve operation in an emergency situation. adjustment of the post length during the initial installation; and, ready re-adjustment of the post length, if there is a modification in the location of the final grade. The A-20806 Posts will accommodate 4 through 16 inch size post indicator valves (PIV) requiring 14 to 50 turns to open and that are listed or approved for fire protection system service. Posts are provided "standard order' for use with left hand opening valves; however, they maybe 'special ordered" for use with right hand opening valves or converted in the field for use with a right hand opening valve by changing the left hand opening Post Head to a right hand opening Post Head. The A-20806 Posts accept direct attachment of a 1/2 inch NPT mounting electric supervisory switching device which can be used by proprietary and central stations to monitor the open position of the A-20806 Post Detailed information on the attachment of the Model PCVS-2 Supervisory Control Valve Switch (supplied by customer), which has two sets of SPDT Form C contacts, is given in the Technical Data section. APPROVALS AND STANDARDS Model A-20806 Indicator Posts are listed by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) and Underwriters Laboratories Inc. for use in Canada (C-UL). They are approved by Factory Mutual Research Corporation. The Model PCVS-2 Supervisory Control Valve Switch is listed by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. and Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada. It is approved by the Factory Mutual Research Corporation. The PCVS-2 listings and approval are under the name of Potter Electric Signal Company. WARNING The Mode! A-20806 Indicator Posts described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Association, in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the integrity of these devices The owner is responsible for maintaining their fire protection system and devices in proper operating condition. The Bell attaches to a Ply mounting flange having four bolt holes spaced at 90 on a 101/2 inch diameter bolt circle. The Bell has 3/4 inch clearance holes for the mounting bolts. The A-20806 has a 14 pitch Threaded Sleeve which can readily accommodate field positioning of the "OPEN" and "SHUT" Targets for 4 through 16 inch PIVs requiring 14 to 50 turns to open. The A-20806 is available in six different "Order Lengths.' Each "Order Length provides for adjustment of dimension "ID" in Figure B. as indicated in Table 4. The Post Head can be adjusted relative to the Lower Barrel by using the two Set Screws located at the base of the Upper Barrel. The Stem requires no field cutting within the indicated adjustment range of each "Order Length." Table 5 indicates the nominal trench depths which can be accommodated by each "Order Length." for the 4 through 16 inch Resilient Wedge PlVa based on the typical diameter of underground pipe. For PlVs with different 'B' dimensions, the minimum and maximum trench depths which will be accommodated by each "Order Length" can be calculated from the relationships given in Figure B. "Standard order"' Posts are factory set with the "OPEN" and 'SHUT' Targets positioned for use with left hand (counter- clockwise) opening valves. An arrow on the Post Head indicated the left hand direction of opening. The position of the Targets may be reversed in the field, in order to accommodate a right hand opening valve, provided that the Post Head is changed to one indicating right hand opening. The Post Head and Bell are cast iron per ASTM A126 (Grade B). The Upper Barrel, Upper Stem, Lower Stem, Coupling, and Coupling Insert are carbon steel. The Lower Barrel is PVC DR14 (UL Listed). The Wrench and Operating Nut are ductile iron per ASTM A536. The Targets and Threaded Sleeve are ZYTEL, and the Cap is polypropylene. The Windows are made from PLEXIGLAS. The Post Head, Upper Barrel, and Wrench are painted red. .r 5+- - 0., CC I _ A NOMINAL INSTALLATION DIMENSIONS FOR MODEL A-20806 INDICATOR POSTS ORDER LENGTH DETERMINATION: TO DETERMINE WHICH "ORDER LENGTH' IS NECESSARY (I.E., "A" "BC", "T, -E-, OFF') FOR AGIVEN TRENCH DEPTH, FIRST CALCULATE DIMENSION 'D'AS FOLLOWS, AND THEN SELECT THE APPROPRIATE "ORDER LENGTH" FROM TABLE 4 THAT WILL BEST ACCOMMODATE THE MINIMUM REQUIRED LENGTH 'D'. MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM TRENCH DEPTH DETERMINATION: THE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM TRENCH DEPTHS WHICH WILL BE ACCOMMODATED BY SPECIFIC 'ORDER LENGTH" CAN BE CALCULATED AS FOLLOWS BY USING THE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM 'D' DIMENSIONS GIVEN IN TABLE 4 "ID'(min.) = 'D' (mm) + 'B' + 'C' 'TD'(max.) = 'D' (max.) + 'B' + 'C' CARE AND MAINTENANCE The Model A-20806 Indicator Post does not require any regular schedule maintenance. It is recommended that Posts used to operate fire protection system water control valves be locked in the fully-open position using the Poet Wrench as shown in Figure A. The locks must be sturdy and resistant to breakage except by heavy bolt cutters. It is also recommended that once a month a visual inspection procedure be followed, with the following items checked: The Post Head, Upper Barrel, and Windows have not been damaged. The Targets indicate that the valve is open. The Wrench is in place on the Post, and the Post is properly locked open. In addition, on a quarterly basis, the Post should be closed two turns and then reopened tight to verify that the Ply is in the full open position and properly engages with the Post and, that the Supervisory Switch contacts (if applicable) properly change position. Any damaged parts must be immediately replaced. The Post should also be physically tried to be sure that the valve is in the fully-open position, if them are any damaged parts, sigh of tampering, or the position of the valve is questionable. NOTES Before closing a fire protection system main valve for maintenance work on either the Post or fire protection systems which is controls, permission to shut down the affected fire protection systems must first be obtained from the proper authorities and all personnel who maybe affected by this decision must be notified. It is recommended that fire protection systems be inspected by a qualified Inspection Service. Series 2000PV: Mechanical Joint Restraint Gland for use With AWWA C900 or IPS Outside Diameter PVC Pipe The 2000PV MEGALUG Mechanical Joint Restraint Tested to and meets the requirements of ASTM is the fastest and most economical method of restraining PVC pipe to mechanical joints. Now the need for costly concrete thrust blocks and corrodible steel tie rods is eliminated. It can be used in straight alignment or at the preset deflection recommended for mechanical joints. The 2000PV was the first PVC joint restraint to be tested to UNl-B-13, Underwriters Laboratories, and Factory Mutual. 1674-96 Standard' Test Method for joint restraint products use with PVC pipe through 24 inch size. UL Listed in the four through twelve inch sizes for joining UL Listed ductile iron fittings tc UL Listed, Class 150 PVC pressure pipe. The maximum allowable joint deflection is five degrees. Factory Mutual approved for use on DR18 PVC pipe in four through twelve inch sizes. ASTM 4\\. ) W UL 1"KH 6 F1674 AWWA VC ME AS APPROVED M E M B B R The 2000PV MEGALUG Concept EBAA Iron started manufacturing joint restraint products for PVC pipe in the early 1980s. The testing of early prototypes of various configurations of restraints on large diameter PVC pipe indicated that a restraint device must be capable of consistently and reliably gripping the pipe. If not, the restraint can slip under pressure, resulting in a sudden impact, and cause the pipe to burst. Armed with this background kntwledge and an appreciation for the capabilities of PVC pipe, EBAA purposefully deviated from what many in the industry once considered to be the 'only' way to grip PVC pipe. This led to development of the Series 2000PV MEGALUG Mechanical Joint Restraint for PVC pipe. The design of the 2000PV incorporates the gripping mechanism into the design of the mechanical joint gland and utilizes a simple two part assembly process. The first step involves assembling the joint the same as any standard mechanical joint. The assembly procedure we recommend is that established in AWWA C600. The second is the actuation of the restraint. *01 r '- 5 ....,. - - S I • Three Testing Methods The design philosophy behind the 2000PV joint restraint is that the pipe with the restraint should be capable of being tested to the same minimum requirements of the pipe alone. In doing so, the restraint is shown to have no detrimental effect on the pipe and will have the same pressure rating and safety factor as the pipe on which it is used. To that end the 2000PV has been subjected to hundreds of static and cyclic pressure tests to demonstrate the performance and reliability of the restraint. One of the primary tests of PVC is its quick burst strength. For pipe meeting the requirements of AWWA C900, AWWA C905 and ASTM 2241, the minimum quick burst requirement for the hoop stress is 6,400 PSI. For DRI8, pipe pressure is 755 PSI. The second test is sustained pressure test at a hoop stress of 4,200 PSI. For DR18 pipe, that pressure is 500 PSI. Third, a conservative cyclic pressure surge design for the pipe exists in the form of Vinson Equation. I The 2000PV restraint has been fl-1 tested to over one million cycles to the peak pressures predicted by the / Vinson Equation for that number of cycles. Series 2000PV Takes the Load On April 11, 1997 EBAA Iron performed a remarkable force demonstration of their Series 2000PV joint restraint. With the use of EBAA's Series 2000PV using standard mechanical joint installation on 12 inch PVC pipe and a 80 Ton Motor Crane, EBAA Iron lifted a D7 Caterpillar Track Type Tractor weighing in at 50,350 lbs. Along with this, the Series 2D00PV has been tested to over 700 PSI. Concluding that EBAA's Series 2000PV MEGALUG can take the load. ItIORTHTOWN Product Data Sheet Pipe Protection Products TUBULAR POLYETHYLENE PROTECTION FOR CAST IRON, DUCTILE IRON AND STEEL PIPE PRODUCT HISTORY Certain soils and artificial environments have been shown to be corrosive to cast iron pipe. In severe environments, the life of the pipe has been significantly shortened extensive tests and field installations for over 47 years have shown that loose polyethylene encasement of the pipe is an effective and economical means of corrosion protection. PRODUCT USE I DESCRIPTION Polyethylene film prevents contact between the pipe and the surrounding soil for corrosion protection. However, it is not expected to be an airtight or watertight encasement. It is available in natural (clear), black, purple, blue, green and custom colors, and it is offered in widths suitable for all pipe sizes, INSTALLATION Per AWWA C10540 there are 3 installation methods. Method A, the most commonly used is described here. The 8 inil polyethylene tube should be cut to lengths that provide a one foot overlap beyond each end of a pipe section. Slip the tubing over the pipe with the printed side up, and bunch it back to clear both ends. A shallow bell We should be made to facilitate installation of the polyethylene. Lower, pipe into position and make up the joint. Pull tubing over the joint from the preceding pipe length and tape It securely to the new pipe length Overlap the polyethylene from the new pipe length back over the same joint and tape in place on the preceding pipe barrel. Pull the polyethylene along the length of the new pipe, folding excess tubing over the top of the pipe barrel and securing it every 3 to 4 feet. Keep the excess polyethylene for the overlap of the next joint bunched back from the joint in preparation for making the next joint Repeat this process for each polyethylene taped into place SPECIFICATIONS The 8 mil minimum, group 2, linear low density, flat tube, virgin polyethylene film provided meets or exceeds the requirements of AWWA C105-10, ANSI 421.5-10, ASTM 04976 and NT4112-10. The film is marked showing trademark year of manufacture type of resin, specification conformance applicable pipe sizes and the words 'warning corrosion protection-repair any damage." PROPERTIES Tensile Strength 3600 psi, minimum—ASTM 0882 Elongation 800%, minimum—ASTM D882 Dielectric Strength 800 V/mil, minimum—ASIM D149 Impact Resistance 600 g, minimum—AST'1 01709'B Propagation Tear Resistance 2550 gf, minimum—ASTM D1922 OPTIONS Northtown's Pol'iwrap is also made In 3' X 100' flat sheets for wrapping fittings and appurtenances and for use in Joint make-up, as described in 4,4,2,2 of the AWWA standard. 800 WRAP-A-PIPE P.O.
