APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the Arts Commission meeting held January 6, 2022. Motion by Commissioner Barker, seconded by Commissioner Miringoff, to approve the Minutes of the regular meeting held on January 6, 2022, as amended. Motion carried, 5/0/0/2 (Jadhav, Snyder-Abstain) PRESENTATIONS: Christine Davis, Executive Director of the Carlsbad Village Association, shared a final report presentation for Pop-up Art! A New Art Experience, a temporary public art pilot program to connect artists with local businesses in the Village. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. REVIEW, DISCUSS AND APPROVE STAFF SUGGESTED UPDATES TO THE COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS PROGRAM GUIDELINES FOR FISCAL YEAR 2022-23 (action): Cultural Arts Manager Richard Schultz and Arts Grants Coordinator Mimi Kim gave a brief presentation summarizing the staff recommendations to the Community Arts Grants guidelines, a result of the commissioner's feedback over the last three meetings. Motion by Commissioner Chung, seconded by Commissioner Snyder, to begin discussion. Motion by Chair Jadhav, seconded by Commissioner George, to approve all staff recommended updates, as revised by the commission, to the Community Arts Grants program guidelines for Fiscal Year 2022-23. Motion carried, 6/1/0 (Snyder-No) CULTURAL ARTS MANAGER REPORT: Mr. Schultz presented the commission with a Cultural Arts update that covered current arts education programs, online lessons celebrating Black History Month and upcoming Sculpture Garden tours. The presentation previewed the next Cannon Art Gallery exhibition, upcoming performing arts events, the new 25th Anniversary Carlsbad Sculpture Garden Coloring Book and a brief review of public art projects on the horizon. He closed the presentation by informing the commission that the Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 yearlong study would begin in May 2022. ARTS COMMISSION CHAIR REPORT: Chair Jadhav wanted to share that she had the opportunity to comment on the Jan. 18, 2022 City Council meeting when the Arts Commission Workplan was unanimously approved. She remarked that it was a wonderful opportunity to see the resounding support by the City Council for the arts. ARTS COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: Commissioners shared the highlights of their participation at local arts events.
