Page 2 Review Comments California Bank and Trust, 2501 Palomar Airport Road, Carlsbad, CA Sizes and lengths of underground piping segments not on plan. Scale dimensions agree with lengths show in calculations. Field verify minimum 6" UG supply to building. No indication as to type of construction per NFPA 13 designation (obstructed or unobstructed). Field verify that if obstructed, upright sprinklers no more than 1"-6" below bottom of framing member, and not more than 22" down from roof deck above. If unobstructed construction in concealed space, field verify that deflector position not more than 12" below bottom of deck above. A riser is shown on the drawing with a designation "1" x 10'-0" TOE to Calc Roof' is not clear where the pipe is connected. All mansard and high ceiling areas are accounted for. Field verify. Reference 110 in calculations is mislabeled on plans as reference 11, adjacent to reference 11. Field verify the main drain valve is at least 1-1/4" diameter. Field verify that a pressure relief valve is installed. None of the hanger details shown on the plans are for CPVC piping. Verify that the material used is listed for use with CPVC piping. As this system has both CPVC and steel pipe, provide AHJ with verification that materials to be used are compatible with CPVC. See manufacturer's website for details. This document should be on the jobsite at all times. The steel pipe risers up to the mansard piping require a 4-way brace at the top, and flexible couplings per section 9.3.2.3. One flexible coupling is required if the length is greater than 3'- 0", but less than 7'-0". Any steel pipe riser longer than 7'-0" requires a flexible coupling within 24" of each end. Since the system pressure is in excess of 100 psi, the hanger spacing for that pressure relative to a sprinkler drop, and spacing along a line should have been indicated on the plans. A sample of a detail is attached, but the detail provided should be from the specific manufacturer. The data sheet for this should be on the jobsite at all times. In the event that the t-bar ceilings are not rigidly braced per ASME E580, the sprinklers to be installed in the suspended panels will require either a 2" clearance around the penetration through the panel, or the use of a flexible drop fitting, per ASCE7-05, section 13.5.6.2.2(e), which is attached. However, gypsum board ceilings are assumed to be rigidly braced. All the above conditions can be field verified. One Hole Strap Two Hole Strap TECHNICAL DATA Q Pipe Bracing with Standard Band Hanger Tolco, Inc., Afcon and Erico make hanger/restraining devices that are available for use with BlazeMaster. A "one hole strap", shown below, can function as a hanger and as a restraining device. As a restraining device, invert the hanger so that the fastener is downward. Installation in this manner will prevent upward movement of the sprinkler during activation. A "two hole strap", shown below, can function as a hanger and as a restraining strap. UL Listed CPVC hangers incorporate features that protect the pipe from sharp edges and ease installation. The hex head self-threading screw (furnished with most UL Listed CPVC hangers) is easily installed using a rechargeable electric drill and a 5/8 inch (8,0 mm) socket attachment. No pre-drilling of a pilot hole is required. Local codes have final authority on which types of hangers can be used. Hanger/Support Spacing Because BlazeMaster pipe is more rigid than other types of plastic pipe systems, the support spacing shown in Table Q shall be adhered to when installing the system. For exposed installations, Listed support devices shall be used that mount piping directly to the ceiling or side wall, except when using upright sprinklers per the installation information in the Listings & 0 .E 2 /PP10Vd1 OLIUII UI LIII II1tIUUUUIS.. When the piping is supported by wood joists or trusses by laying the pipe directly on top of the structural members, the structure provides the support, assuming that the center spacing of the structural member does not exceed the requirements of Table Q. Vertical Restraint When a sprinkler activates, a significant reactive force is exerted on the pipe, especially at system pressures greater than 100 psi (6,9 bar). The reactive force will cause the pipe to lift vertically if it is not properly secured, especially if the sprinkler drop is from a small diameter pipe. x C CL CL M TableQ axi m Support Spacing "L" (Feet) CPVC SDR 13.5 Nominal Pipe Size 1 1-1/4 1-1/2 2 2-1/2 3 ANSI Inches DN20 DN32 DN40 DN50 DN65 DN80 (DN) Support Spacing 5-1/2 6 6-1/2 7 8 9 10 in Feet (m) (1,7) (1,8) (2,0) (2,1) (2,4) (2,7) (3,0) 0 TECHNICAL DATA When a sprinkler drop is 3/4 (DN19) to 1-1/4 inch (DN32) 'pipe, the closest hanger should : • brace the pipe against vertical 4 41ft. A number of techniques can be used to brace the pipe such as a standard band hanger positioning the threaded support I rod to 1/16 inch (1,6 mm) above 'the pipe or using a split ring or a wrap-around hanger for restrai nt. Note: Threaded rod shall not come in contact with CPVC when installed. It is advisable to use lift restraint devices such as those produced by Tolco and Afcon that prevent the threaded rod from coming in contact with the CPVC pipe (as shown above). Branch lines shall be braced at a distance from a tee or elbow to prevent lift of sprinklers as shown in Tables R or S on Page 53.. The hangers used for vertical restraint can also serve as the hangers for "Hanger/Support Spacing". The use of any other recessed escutcheon will void all at rovals and negate all warranties. When installing Model F 1 FA56, F1FR42, F1FRXLH & F1FR28 Sprinklers, use the Mode D Sprinkler Wrench. Use the Mod- el GFR2 Wrench for installing F1FR56, F1FR42, F1FRXLH & F1FR28 Recessed Pe dent Sprinklers. Any other type of wrench may damage tl'te e sprinklers. NOTE: A leak tight 1/2 PT (R1/2) sprinkler joint can be ob- tained with a torque of 8.18 ft-lbs (10,8 - 24,4 N-m), Do not tighten sprinklers over m4nt mum recommended torque. It may causeleakage or impair of the sprinklers. *DuPont Registered Traie Mark 5. 2 j. : I AIX CONCEALED, 5/16' ADJUSTMENT Figure 2 The Model F 1 FR56/ COP Concealed Sprinkler uses the 1/2" ori- fice, 1/2' NFl (A 1/2), 135°F (570C), 155°F (68°C), 175°F (79°C) or 200°F (93°C) Model Fl FR56 Pendent Sprinkler with a threaded Model COP cup which is factory attached to the sprinkler. The assembly is completed by the installation of the attractive, low profile, 135°F (57°C) or 165°F (74°C) rated Model COP push on cover plate assembly The cover plate and sprinkler cup as- semblies are joined using a cover plate skirt with flexible tabs for threaded engagement. A choice of two cover plate assemblies provide either 1/2(13mm) or (8mm) of cover adjustment. Do not install these sprinklers in ceiling which have positive pressure in the space above. After a 2/s" (67mm) diameter hole is cut in the ceiling, the sprinkler is easily installed with the Model RO1 Wrench. A Tef- lon* based thread sealant should be applied to the sprinkler threads only. The Reliable A Perforated Cover Plate The Model G5-56, 05-42 and 05-28 are designed for use where aesthetic appearance is important. Offices, hospitals. motels and restaurants are but a few of the applications where it can be used. The Model G5-56, 05-42 and 05-28 are UL Listed Quick Response Concealed sprinklers intended for use in accor- dance with NFPA 13. FM Approves the G5-56 and the 05-28 sprinkler as a standard response concealed sprinkler intended for use in accordance with FM Loss Prevention Data Sheet 2.0. Product Description The Reliable Model G5-56, 05-42 and G5-28 uses a proven quick response fusible element in a standard style sprinkler frame with a drop-down deflector. This assembly is recessed into the ceiling and concealed by a flat cover plate assem- bly. The threaded engagement provides 3/4" (19mm) of cover adjustment. The flat cover plate is attached to the skirt using either 135°F (57°C) or 165°F (74°C) ordinary temperature clas- sification solder. When the ceiling temperature rises, the solder holding the flat cover plate melts, the flat cover plate released thus expos- ing the sprinkler inside to the rising ambient temperature. The subsequent fusing of the element opens the waterway and causes the deflector to distribute the water. Any secure engagement between the cover plate and cup will assure that the drop-down deflector is properly located below the ceiling. matic Sprinkler Co., Inc., 103 Fairview Park Drive, Elmsford, New York 10523 gs ones Inc. and cULus - ht Hazard and Ordinary Hazard Hazard Occupancies Hazard Occupancies ch Corp.
