GEOTECHNICAL AND ENVIR.ONMENT AL ENGINEER.ING Sehgal Residence -Final Grading Report Project No. G-5505-02 This report provides a summary of the field geotechnical observations and compaction testing provided by this office during footing excavation, driveway construction and trench backfill. The pad grading was performed before and a rough grade report dated March 30, 2020, was prepared and was submitted. Grading Procedure For Grading Procedure please refer to our Rough Grading Report dated March 30, 2020. Laboratory and Field Testing The specified minimum degree of compaction was 90 percent of the ASTM D-1557 laboratory test standard. Laboratory testing including maximum density and optimum moisture value determined for typical sample of the on-site soils during compaction operations and was as follows: Mechanical Analysis (ASTM D422) The texture compositions of the upper material determined by the hydrometer test method are as follows: Soil Type Percent Percent Silt Percent Clay Sand I-On-site, Light Gray Silty Sand 87 10 3 The on-site soils, sandstone bedrock and fragments are non-expansive. 2 Sehgal Residence -Final Grading Report Project No. G-5505-02 Maximum Density & Optimum Moisture (ASTM D1557) Maximum density and optimum moisture contents were determined by the modified Proctor (ASTM D-1557) laboratory test standard on the site sample used for backfilling. Test results are as follows: Soil Soil Type Location Max. Density Optimum Moisture No. (pct) (%) I. Silty Sand On-Site 119.0 10.0 Field Density Test (ASTM D-6938) In-place compacted fill densities were determined in accordance with the current ASTM D-6938 and Sand Cone D-1556 field test procedures. Test results are tabulated on Table One and Table Two and approximate test locations are shown on Plot Plan and Compaction Test Location Map (Plate B) in Appendix A. It should be noted that test elevations and locations are approximate only, based upon available field staking and plan information. Footings of the Building The bottoms of the footings were inspected by this office, they were extended into sandstone bedrock. A field memo was issued, and the original memos are filed in our office. Subgrade Compaction (Driveway) The locations for the subgrade tests at the driveway are shown on Plot Plan and Compaction Test Location Map (Plate B, Appendix A) and the test results (Subgrade tests 12 to 24) are summarized on Table One. The subgrade was compacted to minimum 90 percent of ASTM D-1557 laboratory standard. 3 Sehgal Residence -Final Grading Report Project No. G-5505-02 Utility Trench The sewer trench was backfilled with on-site material and was compacted to minimum 90 percent of ASTM D-1557 laboratory standard. Test results (SI through S6) are tabulated on Table Two and are plotted on Compaction Test Location Map (Plate B) in Appendix A. Conclusions and Recommendation Based on the field observations and test results, it is concluded that the sewer trench and driveway subgrade for proposed development covered in this report has been accomplished in a satisfactory manner consistent with the project specifications and pertinent recommendations presented in our Geotechnical Investigation Report dated November 2, 2018, and the City of Carlsbad Grading Requirements, and is adequate for its intended use. The building was supported by continuous footings, minimum depth of 18 inches and width of 18 inches extended into competent subgrade soils was designed for an allowable bearing value of 2,500 pounds per square foot. Total settlement is estimated to be less than 1/2" and differential settlement is estimated to be less than 1/4" under static loading conditions at a horizontal distance of 30 feet. Remarks Survey lines relative to the proposed development location and elevations were established by others. Inspection services provided by this office were based on the field visual observations and field testing at random, in accordance with the standard of care applicable to similar projects at the time work was done. However, our tests were taken on-site call 4 Sehgal Residence -Final Grading Report Project No. G-5505-02 Table One -Relative Compaction Summary Driveway -Subgrade Depth Below Relative Test Date of Finish Surface Moisture Dry unit Comp.
