The purpose of this memorandum is to provide an overview the 2023 State of the City events
and video presentation.
Background
The City of Carlsbad prepares an annual State of the City video summarizing recent city
accomplishments and future plans. The video is shown ata city-hosted event at the Schulman
Auditorium and an event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.

City Council member participation
While all City Council members have traditionally made remarks at the city-hosted event, the
event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce has featured a speech by the Mayor. This year, the
Mayor has requested a format where all City Council members speak at both events.
Each City Council member will be requested to speak for approximately two minutes about
something related to one of the areas of the 5-Year Strategic Plan:
Keith Blackburn, Mayor
Priya Bhat-Patel, District 3
Melanie Burkholder, District 1
Carolyn Luna, District 2
Teresa Acosta, District 4
