This memorandum provides information on the San Diego Business Journal's recognition of city
staff.
Background
Since 2021, the San Diego Business Journal has recognized numerous professionals and women
of influence in different industries and categories such as technology, engineering, human
resources and diversity.
Last year, two city staff were recognized as Top 50 Women of Influence in Technology in 2022:
Laura Rocha, Deputy City Manager, Administrative Services, and Maria Callander, Information
Technology Director. The issue can be found at:

Discussion
This year, four additional city staff were recognized in different categories. Judy von Kalinowski,
Human Resources Director, received recognition as an honoree in the HR & Diversity
Professionals of the Year in 2023. The issue can be found at: https://images.sdbj.com/wp-

Additionally, Paz Gomez, Deputy City Manager, Public Works; Molly Amendt, Senior Engineer in
the Public Works Branch Fleet & Facilities Department; and Lauren Ferrell, Associate Engineer in
the Public Works Branch Transportation Department, received recognition as honorees in the
Top 50 Women of Influence in Engineering in 2023. The issue that was released earlier this week

Next Steps
The city will continue to support and recognize high-performing staff.
