IRRIGATION DESCRIPTION: THE PROPOSED IRRIGATION SYSTEM FOR 4464 ADAMS
AVENUE SHALL BE AN AUTOMATED WATER DELIVERY SYSTEM CAPABLE OF
PROVlDING SUFFICIENT WATER TO SUSTAIN PLANTS IN A HEALTHY GROWING
CONDITION. WATER SHALL BE DELIVERED TO INDIVIDUAL HYDRO-ZONES COMPRISED
OF COMPATIBLE PLANTING MATERIAL WHIT SIMILAR WATER AND SUN NEEDS AND
GROUPED SPATIALLY BY CHARACTERISTICALLY SIMILAR SITE CIRCUMSTANCES.
EACH HYDRO-ZONE SHALL BE ASSIGNED A SPECIFIC METHOD OF WATER DELIVERY
WITH MATCHED PRECIPITATION RATES. THE SYSTEM SHALL BE CAPABLE OF
OPERA TING MULTIPLE SCHEDULES WITH REPEAT CYCLES IN ORDER TO
EFFECTIVELY APPLY DEEP WATER DEEPLY AND INFREQUENTLY FOR PROMOTING
DEEP ROOT SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH A RAIN SENSING
OVERRIDE DEVICE AND THE SCHEDULING OF WATER TIME TO REDUCE WATER LOSS
DUE TO EVAPORATION. WATERING TIMES SHALL BE BASED UPON HISTORICAL
GEOGRAPHIC WEATHER DATA, SITE SOIL CONDITIONS, PLANT TYPE, IRRIGATION
DELIVERY METHOD AND INHERENT SITE CHARACTERISTICS; I.E. SUN / SHADE
EXPOSURE, SLOPE, ETC. THE IRRIGATION SYSTEM SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH
ISOLATION VALVES TO AVOID DRAINING LONG RUNS OF PIPING FOR SYSTEM
REPAIRS IN ADDITION TO ON-GOING MONITORING OF SYSTEM OPERATION TO
ELIMINATE RUNOFF, LOW HEAD DRAINAGE AND OVERSPRAY.
PLANT SELECTION, SOIL ANALYSIS AND ESTABLISHMENT PERIOD: PRIOR TO PLANTING A SOILS TEST SHALL BE CONDUCTED TO
DETERMINE THE NEED FOR SPECIFIC SOIL AMENDMENT. PRESCRIBED AMENDMENTS SHALL BE INCORPORATED INTO SOIL
PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF IRRIGATION AND PLANTING. PLANTS SHALL BE GROUPED TOGETHER IN HYDRO-ZONES ACCORDING
TO THEIR WATER AND SUN NEEDS. DURING THE PLANTING ESTABLISHMENT PERIOD ROOTS ARE EXPANDING INTO THE
LANDSCAPE SOIL. DEPENDING ON THE TIME OF THE YEAR AND UNDERSTANDING THE SPECIFIC PLANT'S WATER
REQUIREMENTS, SPECIAL WATERING PROCEDURES MAY BE NECESSARY TO FOSTER PLANT SURVIVAL FOR TREES AND
SHRUBS, SUPPLEMENTAL HAND WATERING IS PREFERENTIAL NEWLY PLANTED TREES SHALL BE HAND WATERED TO ENSURE
ADEQUATE MOISTURE CONTENT AT THE ROOT BALL. THE ROOT BALLS OF NEWLY PLANTED TREES SHALL NEVER BE ALLOWED
TO DRY OUT, NOR WATERED TO THE POINT OF SATURATION/IMMERSION. THE FREQUENCY AND AMOUNT OF WATER SUPPLIED
THROUGH THE ESTABLISHMENT PERIOD IS INFLUENCED BY WEATHER, SOIL CONDITIONS, AND SPECIFIC PLANT REQUIREMENTS.
ONCE SHOOT AND TRUNK GROWTH RATES MATCH THE RATES PREVIOUS TO PLANTING, THE TREE IS CONSIDERED
ESTABLISHED. THE AUTOMATED IRRIGATION SCHEDULE SHOULD BE INTRODUCED DURING THE ESTABLISHMENT PERIOD,
HOWEVER DAILY MONITORING OF ROOT BALL MOISTURE CONTENT AND MOISTURE AVAILABLE TO PLANT ROOTS IS NECESSARY
UNTIL ESTABLISHMENT PERIOD IS COMPLETE AND FIELD CAPACITY OF SOIL IS ACHIEVED. AT A MINIMUM THE CONTRACTOR
