GENERAL IRRIGATION SYSTEM 1 .1 SUMM.ARt The work covers an autoi~atically controlled irrigation system, complete, ir1c luding all trenching, backfilling, and compacting; sleeves , installati on of pipe , valVCs, irrigation heads, f it tings, and all other appurtences; connections to wa ter services, testing; installation of controllers, electrical connections aml wiri ng; adjustment of systems; necessary accessories as shown on the d~awings and specified herein. 1.2 REQUIREMENTS A. Al l work and materials shull be in a ccordance with the Uniform Plumbing Code published by tbe Western Plumbi ng Officials Association, ull state and local codes and regulations, and other epplications are to be construed to permit work not conforllling to these codes. Should the construction documents or instructions be at variance with the afor ementioned rules and regulations, notify the irrigation c onsultant and await his ins t r uctions before proceedi ng with t he work affected. B. The contractor shall prepare ''as-built" drawings which shrill show deviations from the bid documents made duri n.s construct.ion affecting t he l ocations of pipe, fittings, re~ote control valves , vire, controllers , irrigation heads, etc. B. Before final acceptance of work, contractor shall transfer all information onto best quality sepia prints and deliver to the consultant s. 1.5 GUARANTEE "as-built" irrigation Al l work shall be guaranteed for one (l ) year from date of acceptance against all defects in materials, equip11en t , and workrnm1ship. Guarantee crhall also cover repair or damage to any part of the premises resul t ing_· from leaks or Other 1defects in material , equipment , and workma nship to the satisfact ion o.E the irrigation consul tant. Repairs, if required shall be done promptl y upon notification by the projects o\o'ner'cr representative, at no c.ost to t h~ owner . 1.6 EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS The contractor shall aquaint himsdf wit h all site conditions. Should utilit i es not shO'Jll on the plans, an~ fount duri ng excavation~, cont ractor s hall promptl y notify the owner's represe1tta.tive for im1tructions as to further uction. Failure to do so will make contractor Liable for any and all damages thereto arising from his operations subsec_uent to discovery o f such utilities not shown on the drawings. PART II . MATERIALS 2. l SUMMARY All materials t h'.oughout the ~ystem shall be new, unused and in per fect condition. Refer to irrigation ms.terials legend, notes, and detail drawings fOr specific equipment. t o be used. Substitutions will only be accepted when approved by t he irri gution constltant. Equi pment or materials i nstftlled or furnished without prior approval of the irrigati on consultant maybe rejected and the contractor required to remc,ve such materials from the site at his own e xpense. 2. 2 EQUIPMENT TO BE FURNISHED ~. Supply as a part of t his contract the followi ng tools: 1. Two (2) sets of crpeci al tool s required for removing , disassembli ng, and adjusting each type of sprinkler and valve supplied on this project. 2. Two (2) f i ve foot valve keys for operation of gate valves. 3. Two (2) k1~ys for each automatic controller. 4. One (l) qu:lc.k coupler ke! and matching hose swivel for every five (S) or frnc tion tlmreof each type of quick coupling val ve installed. B. All pipe must meet requi rements u.'3 set forth in Federal Specification PS-22-70, with an appropriate standard dimension (S.D .R.) (Sol vent-weld Pipe). C. Pressure mainline piping for s izes I 1/4" and smaller shall be PVC Schedule 40 111th sol vent welded joints. D. Pipe shall Ue made from NSF approved Type I, Grade I PVC compound conforming t o ASTM resin specification D1785. All pipe must meet requirements as set forth in Federal Specification PS-21-70. E. PVC solvent-wel d fittings ahall be Schedule _40, 1-2, II-I NSF approved conforming to ASTI1 test procedure D2466. F. Solvent ce1nent and primer for PVC solvent-weld pipe and fittings shall be of t fpc and i nstallation method:i prescribed by the manufacturer . G. All PVC pipe must bear the following marking: 1) Manufacturer's name 2) Nominal pipe size 3) Schedu l e or class 4) Pressure r ating in P.S.I. 5) NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) appr oval 6) Date of extrusion JI. All fittings s hall bear the manufacturer 's name of Trademark, material designation, size , a pplicable T.P .S. schedule and NSF seal of approval. 2.4 PVC NON-PRESSURE LATERAL LI NE PIPING A. Non-pressure buried lateral line piping shall be PVC class 200 with solvent- weld joints. B. Pipe s hall be made from NSF approved, conforming to ASTM resin specification D1784. set forth in Federal Speci fication PS-22-70 dimension r atio. Type I, Grade I! PVC compound All pipe must meet requi rements with on appropriate standard C. Fit.tings shall be red brass conforming to Federnl Specificnt:l.on IWW-P-460. 2.6 BACKFLOW PREVENTION UNITS Backflow prevention units shall be of si7.e and type i ndicated on the irrigation drawi ngs. I nstall backflow pr evention units in accordance with irrigation construction detai ls. 2.7 CHECK VALVES Anti-drain valves shall be of heavy duty vi r gin PVC Construction with F.I.P. t hread i nlet and outlet, Internal perts shall be gtainless. steel and neoprene. Anti-drain valve shall be field adjusta ble against drawout from 5 to 40 feet of head. Ant i -drain valve uhall be similiar to the Valcon "ADV'' or approved equal. 2 .8 CONTROL WIRING A. Connections between the uutomatic controlltrs and the electric val vess shall be made wi th direct bu rial copper wire AWG--U.F . 600 Volt. in accordance with val ve manufacturer's specifications and wire chart. case shall wire be l ess than #14. control Install In no B. Automatic controllers shall be of size and type shown on the plans. B, Final location of autowatic controllers shall be approved by the owner's authorized representa tive. C. Unless otherwise noted on t he plans, the 120 volt electrical power to the automatic cont roller location to be f urnished by others. The f inal electrical hook-•up shnll be responsibility of the irrigation contractor. 2.10 ELECTRICAL CONTROL VALVES Provide a nd install one control box for each electric control val ve • 2 .11 CONTROL YALY8 BOXES A. Use IO" x 10 l/4" rn'und boK for all gate valves, Carson Indust ries #910-12B with green bolt down cover or approved equal. Extension slee ve shall be PVC-6" minimum size. B. Use 9 l/2" x 16" x 11" rectangular box for a ll electrical control valves, Carson Industries 1419-1 2D with green bolt down co,er or a pproved equal . 2.12 SPRINKLER HEADS A. All sprinkler heads shall be of the sume s ize , type, and deliver the sume rate of precipitation with the diallieter (or radius) of tbrow, pressure, and discharge as shown ort the plans and/or specified in these special provisions. B. Spray heads shall have a screw adjustment. C. Riser units s ha ll be fabricated in accordance with the details shown on plans. D. Riser nipples for. al_~ sprinkler heads shall be the same size as the riser openi ng in the sprinkler body . E. All sprinkl er heads of t he same typo ·shall be of the same manufacturer. PART III. INSTALLATION 3.1 LA YOUT A. All work shall be laid out in accordance with plans and details as shown on the drawings. Locate irrigation apparatuses, equipment, etc. in pl anted area wherever possible. n. If minor changes in location are required or as directed by the owner's representativ<:!, work shall be accomplished by the contractor at no additional cost to the owner, providing such changes ordered before items of work directly connected to same area are instal led, and providing no additional materi a ls are requi red. 3.2 EXCAVATING AND TRENCHING A. Perform all excavations as required for the installation of the irrigation system. Restore all surfaces, existing underground inst allations, etc. damaged or cut as a res ult of the excavations t o their original condition, and in a manner sa tisfactory to the owner's rapresentative. · · B. Trenches shall be made wide enough to allow a minimum of 2 inches between parallel pipe lines. Trenches for pipe lines shall be made of suff~cient depths to pr ovide the minimum cove r from finished grade as follows: 1. 18" inch cover over mainlines. 2. 12" i nch cove',' over PVC lateral lines. 3. 6" inch cov,:1 over poly tul.>ing l ateral lines. 4. 48" i nch cover sleeved lines under driveways (per r!etail).
