Memo ID# 2023082
To assist City Council members in planning their remarks for the upcoming State of the City/State
of the Community events, city staff is providing information about projects, issues and initiatives
that will be featured under each of the five themes within the 5-Year Strategic Plan in this year's
State of the City video.
Background/Discussion
The annual State of the City event will take place August 15, at the Schulman Auditorium,
followed by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce's State of the Community event August 18. At
both events, each City Council member will be asked to speak about one of the areas of the City
Council 5-Year Strategic Plan. Then, the State of the City video will be shown.
The video will cover projects, initiatives and programs related to each of the five goals in the
5-Year Strategic Plan. City Council remarks can help set the stage for the video by addressing
questions such as:
• Why is this goal important to the future of our city?
• Why is it important to you as a City Council member?
• What are you most excited about related to progress on this goal?
City Council members could also choose to share an anecdote that relates to the goal -perhaps
feedback you have received from a community member or your own experience seeing the
difference a particular project has made in the community.
Video topics
The 2023 State of the City video will summarize major work completed in the past 12 months for
each goal. Specific topics are included on the following page:
