Palomar Airport Ad · Committee Member Nomination (Districts -All)
This memorandum provides an update on the appointment of a Carlsbad resident to the San
Deigo County Palomar Airport Advisory Committee.
Background
On July 11, 2023, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2023-194 identifying Shirley Anderson
as the city's primary candidate and Gary Greening as an alternate candidate for nomination and
appointment to the San Diego County Palomar Airport Advisory Committee.
The resolution was submitted to the offices of District 5 Supervisor Jim Desmond and District 3
Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer on July 19, 2023.
Discussion
On August 18, 2023, staff received the following from Supervisor Desmond's office in response to
a recent inquiry regarding the next steps and timeline for finalizing Ms. Anderson's nomination
and appointment to the PAAC:
"Unfortunately, we are in a holding pattern on appointments to this committee. As you
know, due to redistricting, the PAAC is now split between Districts 5 & 3. In an effort to
allow both Supervisors to play a role in appointing qualified candidates, we are working
diligently to distribute the seats to each district. Once determined, we can proceed with the
appointments to the PAAC. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause & appreciate
your patience."
No additional information was provided.
Next Steps
Staff will continue to engage with San Diego County in an effort to gain an understanding of the
anticipated timeline for completing the appointment process.
