SUBJECT: RESPONSE TO THE CITY OF CARLSBAD CONSTRUCTION CHANGE
RESUBMITTAL CHECKLIST
Proposed Retaining Wall
4382 Adams Street
City of Carlsbad, San Diego County, California
Work Order No. 3011601. OOR
Dear Mr. Poizin:
Pursuant to a request from the City of Carlsbad, this response has been prepared to address the
checklist for the subject site performed by the City and provide verification of soil parameters in the
wall calculations. This response will address only Item 9, which concerned soil parameters, and the
City review sheet is attached to the back this letter report for easy reference. This Response
document shall be made inseparable from and a part of the references.
Item 9.
In accordance with Item 9 of the referenced City of Carlsbad Resubmittal Checklist, we have
reviewed the previous geotechnical reports (see references), the onsite wall calculations (Mike
Surprenant, 2018), a redlined copy of the Precise Grading Plans (reviewed by city, May 14, 2018),
the wall section detail (Spear & Associates, undated), and performed a site reconnaissance of the
wall backcuts (South Shore, 2018). Based on our site inspection of the existing wall backcuts, the
onsite bedrock is consistent with that encountered and tested during our preliminary geotechnical
investigation. It is our opinion that the wall calculations, prepared by Mike Surprenant &
Associates (2018) have incorporated the soil parameters presented in the referenced geotechnical
reports and are suitable for the job requirements.
