Subject: 2 nd Response to City Comments, on Plans Dated 10/13/2017
Dear Mr. Church:
Shoring Design Group is in receipt of the 2 nd plan review comments prepared by the City of Carlsbad,
regarding the above referenced project. In response, Shoring Design Group (SDG) offers the following
responses:
Response to "Redline" Comments
Sheet SH3 Drawing Redlines:
The back-lagged shoring alignment was offset against the existing PL, for installation of water
proofing & drainage against the exterior light well block face.
Upon discussion with the project's architect & structural engineer, it was decided that the back-wall
form alternate provided a more suitable means of construction, given the proximity of the existing
property line wall. Please see the revised soldier beam layout & structural details for the shoring
back-wall form, against the light-well cast in place concrete.
Please see the update title-block for the corrected "GR 2017-0048" & "DWN BY" reference, as
requested (Typical, all sheets).
The line type in question is the proposed setback as provided by the civil engineer. For reference,
please see updated call out to sheet SH3.
Sheet SH4 Drawing Redlines:
The dashed lines between beams #1-2 & #7-8 represents the temporary 1-1 daylight slope. Please
see the updated profile view for the corresponding call out.
Please see the updated profile view for the anticipated footing extents of the adjacent wall.
Please see call out identifying the proposed slab on grade, wall & footing. The legend on sheet SH3 &
SH4, is designated for temporary shoring improvements only.
Please see the updated profile view for more legible lagging lines & call out for the pressure treated
lagging.
Sheet SHS Drawing Redlines:
Please see revised detail 1/SH5. The shoring wall alignment has been revised to back-wall form & will
not require backfill between the lightwell structure. Additionally, the depressed area between the
pad & bottom of shoring wall is the cut required for the proposed footing. Please see structural light
well detail 2/SD7 for the proposed footing dimensions.
The shoring alignment has been revised to back-wall form the proposed light well (see updated
detail 2/SH5) & should clear the existing wall footing during installation. As a precaution, detail
4/SH5 has also been added to provide further offset (if required) from the existing wall, in the
unlikely event of conflict in the field.
Sheet SH6 Drawing Redlines
1. Please seethe updated title-block for the requested information.
Should you have any additional questions or comments regarding this matter, please advise.
Sincerely,
SHORING DESIGN GROUP,
