TDS-C900-1 Rev: AOL, Right, On Time, All the Time® www.northamericanpipe.com .343 .493 .646 .793 .943 0 AMERICAN Flanged Pipe The principal standards covering Flanged Pipe are ANSI/AWWA C115/A21.15 and ANSI/AWWA C110/A21.10. These and other standards are referenced throughout this Section either by the full ANSI/AWWA designation or by only the AWWA numbering such as AWWA C115. AMERICAN produces 4"- 64' ductile iron flanged pipe with threaded flanges for water or other liquids in accordance with AWWA Cli 5. Maximum length of flanged pipe is 176", 190", 19'6", or 20'0", de- pending on size; any length less than maxi- mum can be furnished down to minimum practical lengths, varying also with pipe size. Flanges generally are threaded on all flanged pipe, except for short lengths of pipe which may be produced statically with integrally cast flanges as shown in Table Nos. 8-9 and 8-10; static castings are man- ufactured in accordance with applicable re- quirements of AWWA C1 10. Flanged pipe is generally specified for aboveground service for air, water, sewage, oil and other liquids where rigid, restrained joints are needed. It is widely used in indus- trial piping systems, water treatment plants and sewage treatment plants, and for other interior piping. Long runs of flanged pipe should nor- mally include design provisions for thermal expansion and contraction, such as flexible joints or couplings at strategic intervals. Pipe may be furnished with one end flanged and the other end with Fastite bell, mechanical joint bell, restrained joint bell, plain end, grooved or shouldered end, or with other type end as may be required. The underground use of the flanged joint is generally not recommended due to the rigidity of the joint as noted in appendi- ces of appropriate ANSI/AWWA standards. Flanged pipe is rated for a maximum working pressure of at least 250 psi as specified in the tables in this Section. The AWWA C110 and C115 flanges (as well as the flanges faced and drilled per ANSI B16.1 Class 250) are also rated for maxi- mum water working pressure of at least 250 psi. The flanges faced and drilled per ANSI B16.1 Class 250 are special; they do not match other flanges and are infre- quently furnished. AMERICAN furnishes these only as a transition from equipment with these flanges to regular AWWA C1 10 or C115 flanges. These flanges faced and drilled per ANSI 1316.1 Class 250 are shown in Table Nos. 8-11, 8-12 and 8-13 which are shaded to signify their special nature. AMERICAN flanged pipe in sizes 24"and smaller is rated for 350 psi working pres- sure only when AMERICAN Toruseal® gas- kets are used. In some cases other sizes of flanged pipe have been supplied for work- ing pressures greater than 250 psi, again when joined with AMERICAN Toruseal® gaskets. Check AMERICAN for details. Coatings and Linings The standard outside coating for flanged pipe is a one-mil-thick asphaltic paint, but other outside coatings per Sec- tion 11 can be furnished when specified. 8-1 0 While other linings are available as described in Section 11, cement lining, per AWWA C104, is usually furnished in flanged pip- ing. Where AMERICAN is given the option, flanged pipe is normally furnished cement lined depending on availability. A rust preventive coating is applied to the machined faces of the flanges; this coat- ing may be removed prior to installation. Pipe Barrel and Flanges Ductile iron pipe barrels conform to the requirements of AWWA C151. All flanges furnished by AMERICAN for threading on ductile iron pipe are ductile iron in ac- cordance with AWWA C115. (AMERICAN recommends only ductile iron flanges for strength and safety, though AWWA C115 currently allows both ductile iron and gray iron flanges.) Flanges conform to the chemical and physical properties specified for ductile iron fittings in AWWA C1 10. The minus thickness tolerances of the pipe barrels are shown below. Table No. 8-1 Pipe Size In. Minus Tolerance AWWA C151 in. 4-8" 0.05 10-12" 0.06 14-42" 0.07 48" 0.08 54-64" 0.09 Pipe barrels and flanges have tapered pipe threads (NPT) in accordance with ANSI 132.1 adapted to the ductile iron pipe outside diameters. The flange is threaded onto the pipe and machine tightened until the pipe end projects beyond the face of the flange; it is then machined to give a flush finish of the pipe end and flange and to ensure that the flange face is perpendicular to the axis of the pipe. The flange is designed so that a shroud substantially covers the working threads of the pipe for thread protection. Prior to assembly of the flange on the pipe, a commercial-grade thread compound isap- plied to the threads to ensure leak-free fab- rication. 1—Ductile iron flange; 2—Ductile iron pipe barrel; 3—AMERICAN Standard Pipe Threads, ANSI B2.1, adapted to ductile iron outside diameters; 4—Pipe end and barrel machined simultaneously to a flush finish; and 5—Shroud. AMERICAN Flanged Pipe is shop fabri- cated in accordance with AWWA Cli 5 and threading at the job site is not recommend- ed. Flanges furnished on pipe are not inter- changeable in the field and generally cannot be removed after fabrication without dam- aging the pipe and/or flange threads. If in- stallation conditions require assembly of the flange on the job, the flange may be factory assembled to a "hand-tight" condition. This permits removal and re-assembly at the job site at which time suitable thread compound must be used. "Hand-tight" flanges should be limited to 16" and smaller sizes because of the difficulty in tightening larger flanges at the job site. JOINT MATERIALS Joint materials are normally furnished for all mechanical joint bell openings on pipe or fittings. With the exception of AMERI- CAN Toruseal® gaskets specifically recom- mended for superior performance, flanged joint materials are not normally furnished by AMERICAN, although they are generally available from stock. See Table Nos. 8-2 in this section and 8-3 in Details and Acces- sories. Since flanged bolts are not generally furnished by AMERICAN, the following is given for information only. 8-2 Bolts and Nuts Size, length and number of bolts and nuts are shown in Table Nos. 8-3 (Details and Accessories-AWWA C1 10 or C115 flange) and 8-11 (Details and Accessories-flange faced and drilled per ANSI B16.1 Class 250). Bolts are specified in ANSI B18.2.1 and nuts are specified in ANSI 1318.2.2. Bolts and nuts of low-carbon steel conforming to ASTM A307 are specified in the Appendix of AWWA C1 10 and C115 for flanged pipe when rubber gaskets are used. Nuts of reg- ular or heavy hex design are used accord- ing to customer specifications. Also, per the Appendix of AWWA C1 10 and Cli 5, high- strength bolts should not be used when a gray iron flange is involved in the connection. O AMERICAN ToruseaP Flange Gasket The AMERICAN Toruseal® flange gasket is available for improved joint performance. It is vastly superior to co-NSF 61 certified ventional full-face or Toruseal® Gasket ring gaskets. Although recommended for all normal water and sewer service, it especially must be used in demanding services such as very large diam- eter flanged piping, specially designed long- span installations (i.e. spans involving 2 or 3 lengths of pipe) or with any underground flanges* that could be subjected to unde- sirable beam loading. Toruseal® gaskets are normally furnished of high-quality black, molded SBR rubber with required properties per ANSI/AWWA C1 11 /A21.1 1. Standard Toruseal® SBR rubber gaskets are ANSI/NSF Standard 61 certified for contact with po- table water. Other type rubber is available on special order. AMERICAN Toruseal® gas- kets meet the description of specially de- signed gaskets" shown in the appendices of AWWA C110,C111, and Cll5,and special gaskets" shown in the body of AWWA Cl 11. 'As noted in the appendices of appropriate ANSI/AWWA slang dards, the use of flanged pets underground in generally not recomt mended because of the rigidity of the joint. Gaskets AMERICAN Toruseal® gaskets are rec- ommended for AWWA standard flanged joints in normal water and sewage service. The ANSI B16.21 standard specifies the in- side of 3-12" non-metallic full-face and ring gaskets to be greater (the same as standard steel pipe outside diameters) than nominal. Any flat gaskets used for ductile iron flanged pipe must have nominal" in- side diameters as shown in the appendix of ANSI/AWWA C1 15/A21.15, not the larger inside diameters per ANSI B16.21. The larger I.D. gaskets per ANSI B16.21 are not recommended by AMERICAN. lable No. 8-2 AMERICAN Toruseal" Flange GasW Full—Face Pipe Size in. Pressure I Rating psi Gasket Weight lbs I Approx. Studs with one hex nut each are required for tapped flanges. Bolts, studs and nuts are low-carbon steel per ASTta1 A307 Grade B; threads are ANSI B1.1 Coarse Thread Series, Class 2A external and Class 2B internal. Recommended studs are the same length as corresponding bolt length with "tap end" threaded approximately the same length as flange thickness. Facing: Flanges are plain-faced without projection and are furnished smooth or with shallow serrations. Back Facing: Flanges may be back-faced or spot-faced for compliance with the flange thickness tolerance. Flanges: The flanges are adequate for water service of 250 psi working pressure or 350 psi in 4"-24" sizes when employing Toruseal° gasket seals. The bolt circle and bolt holes match those of ANSI B16,1 Class 125 flanges and ANSI B16,5 Class 150 flanges. The flanges do not match and cannot be jointed with the ANSI B16,1 Class 250 flanges or with other type flanges. Drilling of flanges can be rotated when required; for those sizes with an even number of bolt holes in each quadrant, pipe can be rotated 45° with standard drilling. Series 2000PV: Mechanical Joint Restraint Gland for use With AWWA C900 or IPS Outside Diameter PVC Pipe The 2000PV MEGALUG Mechanical Joint Restraint is the fastest and most economical method of restraining PVC pipe to mechanical joints. Now the need for costly concrete thrust blocks and corrodible steel tie rods is eliminated. It can be used in straight alignment or at the preset deflection recommended for mechanical joints. The 2000PV was the first PVC joint restraint to be tested to UNI-13-13, Underwriters Laboratories, and Factory Mutual. Tested to and meets the requirements of ASTM F 1674-96 'Standard' Test Method for joint restraint products use with PVC pipe through 24 inch size. UL Listed in the four through twelve inch sizes for joining UL Listed ductile iron fittings to UL Listed, Class 150 PVC pressure pipe. The maximum allowable joint deflection is five degrees. Factory Mutual approved for use on DRI8 PVC pipe in four through twelve inch sizes. U:: ASTM (Q! F1674 AWWA APPROVED MEMBER The 2000PV MEGALUG Concept EBAA Iron started manufacturing joint restraint products for PVC pipe in the early 1980s. The testing of early prototypes of various configurations of restraints on large diameter PVC pipe indicated that a restraint device must be capable of consistently and reliably gripping the pipe. If not, the restraint can slip under pressure, resulting in a sudden impact, and cause the pipe to burst. Armed with this background knowledge and an appreciation for the capabilities of PVC pipe, EBAA purposefully deviated from what many in the industry once considered to be the 'only' way to grip PVC pipe. This led to development of the Series 2000PV MEGALUG Mechanical Joint Restraint for PVC pipe. The design of the 2000PV incorporates the gripping mechanism into the design of the mechanical joint gland and utilizes a simple two part assembly process. The first step involves assembling the joint the same as any standard mechanical joint. The assembly procedure we recommend is that established in AWWA C600. The second is the actuation of the restraint. Three Testing Methods The design philosophy behind the 2000PV joint restraint is that the pipe with the restraint should be capable of being tested to the same minimum requirements of the pipe alone. In doing so, the restraint is shown to have no detrimental effect on the pipe and will have the same pressure rating and safety factor as the pipe on which it is used. To that end the 2000PV has been subjected to hundreds of static and cyclic pressure tests to demonstrate the performance and reliability of the restraint. One of the primary tests of PVC is its quick burst strength. For pipe meeting the requirements of AWWA C900, AWWA C905 and ASTM 2241, the minimum quick burst requirement for the hoop stress is 6,400 PSI. For DR18, pipe pressure is 755 PSI. The second test is sustained pressure test at a hoop stress of 4,200 PSI. For DR18 pipe, that pressure is 500 PSI. Third, a conservative cyclic pressure surge design for the pipe exists in the form of Vinson Equation. The 2000PV restraint has been tested to over one million cycles to the peak pressures predicted by the Vinson Equation for that number of cycles. , Series 2000PV Takes the Load On April 11, 1997 EBAA Iron performed a remarkable force demonstration of their Series 2000PV joint restraint. With the use of EBAA's Series 2000PV using standard mechanical joint installation on 12 inch PVC pipe, and a 80 Ton Motor Crane, EBAA Iron lifted a D7 Caterpillar Track Type Tractor weighing in at 50,350 lbs. Along with this, the Series 2000PV has been tested to over 700 PSI. Concluding that EBAA's Series 2000PV MEGALUG can take the load. La—s E1j 1. Identify the pipe. The 2000PV is for use with PVC and HDPE pipe. The 4 inch through 12 inch size may be used on C900, and IPS PVC pipe as well as C906 HOPE pipe. Check to see if the spacers under the screws are in place. If the pipe is C900 or is ductile iron 0.D., pro- ceed with spacers in place. If the pipe is IPS 0.D., remove the spacers. Since 3 inch and 14 inch through 24 inch restraints are only used with one pipe diameter, no spacers are used. 2. Clean the socket and the plain end. Lubri- cation and additional cleaning should be provided by brushing both the gasket and plain end with soapy water or an approved pipe lubricate meeting the requirements of ANSI! AWWA C111/A21.11 just prior to slipping the gasket onto the plain end for joint assembly. Place the gland on the plain end with the lip extension toward the plain end; follow by the gasket with the narrow edge of the gasket toward the plain end [The gasket provided may be the EBM-Seal Improved Mechanical Joint Gasket for C900 PVC Pipe. This gasket is hi-directional having no front or back. For ASTM 2241 PVC Pipe Sizes (IPS O.D.) a Transition Gasket must be used. The use of a pipe wall stiffening insert is required on High Density Polyethylene pipe.]. 3 Insert the pipe into the socket and press the * gasket firmly and evenly into the gasket recess. Keep the joint straight during assembly. 4 Push the gland toward the socket and center * it around the pipe with the gland lip against the gasket. Insert bolts and hand-tighten nuts. Make deflection after joint assembly but before tightening bolts. NOTE: In cold weather it is preferable to warm the gasket to facilitate assembly of the joint. 5 Tighten the bolts to the normal range of bolt * torque [45-60 ft-lbs for 3 inch, 75-90 ft-lbs for 4 inch through 24 inch, 100-120 ft-lbs for 30 inch and 36 inch, and 120-150 ft-lbs for 42 inch and 48 inch.] while at all times maintain- ing approximately the same distance between the gland and the face of the flange at all points around the socket. This can be accom- plished by partially tightening the bottom bolt first, then the top bolt, next the bolts at either side, finally the remaining bolts. Repeat the process until all bolts are within the appropri- ate range of torque. In large sizes (30-48 inch), five or more repetitions may be required. The use of a torque-indicating wrench will facilitate the procedure. 7 If removal is necessary, utilize the 5/g inch hex heads provided. If reassembly is required, as- semble the joint in the same manner as above; tighten the screws to 60 to 80 ft-lbs. If the Series 2000PV restraint is removed from the pipe, be sure that all of the screws, spacers (if required), and wedges are in place before the restraint is reassembled. EBAA IRON Sales, Inc. P.O. RTIORTHTOWN Product Data Sheet I Pipe Protection Products POLYWRAP TUBULAR POLYETHYLENE PROTECTION FOR CAST IRON, DUCTILE IRON AND STEEL PIPE PRODUCT HISTORY Certain soils and artificial environments have been shown to be corrosive to cast iron pipe. In severe environments, the life of the pipe has been significantly shortened. Extensive tests and field installations for over 47 years have shown that loose polyethylene encasement of the pipe is an effective and economical means of corrosion protection. PRODUCT USE / DESCRIPTION Polyethylene film prevents contact between the pipe and the surrounding soil for corrosion protection. However, it is not expected to be an airtight or watertight encasement. It is available in natural (clear), black, purple, blue, green and custom colors, and it is offered in widths suitable for all pipe sizes. INSTALLATION Per AWWA C105-10 there are 3 installation methods. Method A, the most commonly used is described here. The 8 mil polyethylene tube should be cut to lengths that provide a one foot overlap beyond each end of a pipe section. Slip the tubing over the pipe with the printed side up, and bunch it back to clear both ends. A shallow bell hole should be made to facilitate Installation of the polyethylene. Lower pipe into position and make up the joint. Pull tubing over the joint from the preceding pipe length and tape it securely to the new pipe length. Overlap the polyethylene from the new pipe length back over the same joint and tape in place on the preceding pipe barrel. Pull the polyethylene along the length of the new pipe, folding excess tubing over the top of the pipe barrel and securing it every 3 to 4 feet. Keep the excess polyethylene for the overlap of the next joint bunched back from the joint in preparation for making the next joint. Repeat this process for each polyethylene taped into place. SPECIFICATIONS The 8 mil minimum, group 2, linear low density, flat tube, virgin polyethylene film provided meets or exceeds the requirements of AWWA C105-10, ANSI A21.5-10, ASTM D4976 and N14112-10. The film is marked showing trademark, year of manufacture, type of resin, specification conformance, applicable pipe sizes and the words "warning corrosion protection-repair any damage." PROPERTIES Tensile Strength 3600 psi, minimum—ASTM D882 Elongation 800%, minimum—ASTM D882 Dielectric Strength 800 V/mil, minimum—ASTM D149 Impact Resistance 600 g, minimum—ASTM D1709-B Propagation Tear Resistance 2550 gf, minimum—ASTM D1922 OPTIONS Northtown's Polywrap is also made in 3' X 100, flat sheets for wrapping fittings and appurtenances and for use in joint make-up, as described in 4.4.2.2 of the AWWA standard. 800 WRAP-A-PIPE P.O.
