The additional strength is provided by the ductile properties making up the fitting. This is accomplished by adding magnesium while the iron is being poured into its final cast shape. -. This provides an advantage as the ,) fittings are not as susceptible to leaks or cracking and they are also lighter than standard cast iron. Caution: Installers who have not used ductile iron threaded fittings before should be instructed that the fitting is stronger than the pipe and over-tightening the fitting can create leaks and cause damage to pipe threads. In general, there is about one-half a turn difference between cast iron and ductile Iron fittings. Apply Teflon tape or high quality pipe Joint compound on the pipe threads and tighten two to three turns beyond hand tight. if you are using an automatic make- on machine, please exercise caution In setting your machine to the proper parameters prior to tightening fittings onto the male pipe threads. Fire- Lock full-flow elbows and tees are a CAD-developed, hydrodynamic design that has a shorter center-to-end dimension than standard fittings. A noticeable bulge allows the water to make a smoother turn to maintain similar flow characteristics as standard full flow fit- tings. FireLock fittings are designed for use exclu- sively with Style 005 Fire- Lock couplings. Use of other couplings or flange adapters may result in bolt pad interference. Victaulic FireLock fittings pressure ratings conforth to the ratings of Victaulic Fire- Lock Style 005 couplings. VictauIic World Headquarters. P.O. General Notes: It is the Designer's responsibility to select products suitable for the intended service and to ensure that pressure ratings and performance data is not exceeded. Always read and understand the Installation Instructions (IH-1000). Never remove any piping component nor correct or modify any piping deficiencies without first depressurizing and draining the system. Material and gasket selection should be verified to be compatible for the specific application. tolo CEH112-IWCO1PAU1 tqco/Row Control/ Tyco Fire Pmducts Printed U.S.A. 3-02 Special Notes Engineering Note In 1996 the screws listed by UL were tested in plate steel that measured .188 and .118. Subsequent testing was done for purlin applica- tions on May 5, 1997 using .037 or 20 gauge steel. Metric Sizes Sammy Super ScrewsTm and SidewindersTm are available to hang metric threaded rod (6mm, 8mm, and 10mm) or bolt stock. Sammy Nut Drivers Special nut drivers were designed to be used with the Sammy Super ScrewTm anchoring system. When the appropriate nut drivers are used for installation the driver spins free on the screw after installation is complete and eliminates the expected wrist snap, reduces over-torque, and prevents screw failure. See installation procedures on pages 18 and 19. Stainless Steel Screws For standard stainless steel inventory, refer to pages 10 and 11. Additional screws can be made with mild screws and stainless steel heads. Please call 888.773.0001 for additional information. Steel Screws Due to variations in hardness of certain metals, it should be noted our self-drilling screws for steel will experience different drill rates. 500-1500 RPM drill speed should be tried. Resulting drill chips should not be blue in color. Residual drill chips that are blue in color indicate the drill RPM level is too high. Vibratory Environments For attaching or anchoring in high vibratory environments, special care should be taken not just for building attachments but also for the hangers or assemblies being supported. Consult local code authorities for accepted anchoring devices. TJI Joist I Truss Truss manufacturers vary installation recommendations for TJI joist. Sidewinders SWG 20 and SWG 25-380 can be installed into the top cord of a truss. Sammy (1ST 20 can be installed into the center of the lower cord of a TI!. Penetration of the upright center web is permitted by some joist manufacturers. Pre-drilling may be required by joist manufacturers. If so, pre-drill pilot 1/8" smaller than root diameter of fastener. Consult table below: Model Root Diameter Hole Size GST2O 0.182 1/8" CT 25-380 0.280 7/32" SWG20 0.182 1/8" SWG25-380 0.280 7/32" To increase efficiency of the installation process, sleeve tools, bit receivers and wood bits are available for pre-drilling. No. 1009680 Other Patents Pending Potter Electric, Rd., 1990 GENERAL INFORMATION The Model VSR-F is a vane type waterflow switch for use on wet sprinkler systems. It is UL Listed and FM Approved for use on steel pipe; schedules 10 through 40, sizes 2' thru 8". LPC approved sizes are 21 thru 8' (50mm thru 200mm). The unit may also be used as a sectional waterflow detector on large systems. The unit contains two single pole, double throw, snap action switches and an adjustable, instantly recycling pneumatic retard. The switches are actuated when a flow of 10 gallons per minute or more occurs downstream of the device. The flow condition must exist for a period of time necessary to overcome the selected retard period. ENCLOSURE: The unit is enclosed in a general purpose, die-cast housing. The cover is held in place with two tamper resistant screws which require a special key for removal. A field installable cover tamper switch is available as an option which may be used to indicate unauthorized removal of the cover. On horizontal pipe they should be installed on the top side of the pipe where they will be accessible. The units should not be installed within 6" of a fitting which changes the direction of the waterflow or within 24' of a valve or drain. Drain the system and drill a hole in the pipe using a circular saw in a slow speed drill. The 2' (50mm) and 2 1/2" (65mm) devices require a hole with a diameter of 1 1/4" i- 1/8" - 1/16' (33mm ±2mm). All other sizes require a hole with a diameter of 2' ±1/8" (50mm ±2mm). Clean the inside pipe of all growth or other material for a distance equal to the pipe diameter on either side of the hole. Roll the vane so that it may be inserted into the hole; do not bend or crease it. Insert the vane so that the arrow on the saddle points in the direction of the waterflow. Install the saddle strap and tighten nuts alternately to an eventual 50 if-lbs. of torque (see Fig. 2). The vane must not rub the inside of the pipe or bind in any way.
