DESCRIPTION Viking Freedoms Residential Concealed Pendent Sprinkler VK457 is a small high- sensitivity solder link and lever residential sprinkler designed for installation on con- cealed pipe systems where the appearance of a smooth ceiling is desired. The orifice design, with a K-Factor of 4.9 (70.6 metric*), allows the sprinkler's efficient use of available water supplies for the hydraulically designed fire-protection system. The fast response operating element and special deflector combine speed of operation and areas of coverage to meet residential sprinkler standards. The sprinkler is pre-assembled with a threaded adapter for installation with a low- profile small-diameter cover assembly installed flush to the ceiling. The two-piece design allows installation and testing of the sprinkler prior to installation of the cover plate. The "push-on", "thread-off' design of the concealed cover plate assembly allows easy installation of the cover plate after the system has been tested and the ceiling finish has been applied, while also providing up to ½" (12.7 mm) of vertical adjustment. The cover assembly can be removed and reinstalled, allowing temporary removal of ceiling panels without taking the sprinkler system out of service or removing the sprinkler. Sprinkler Wrenches**: Heavy Duty Part No. 13623W/B (available since 2006), or Head Cabinet Wrench Part No. 13619*** (available since 2006) Optional Concealed Cover Plate Installer Tool Part No. 14412 (available since 2007) Optional Large Concealed Cover Plate Installer Tool Part No. 14867 (available since 2007) **Requires a 1/2' ratchet (not available from Viking). """Also optional for removal of the protective cap. Ideal for sprinkler cabinets. Sprinkler Cabinet: Part No. 01731A, Capacity: five (5) sprinklers (available since 1971) INSTALLATION Refer to appropriate NFPA Installation Standards. OPERATION During fire conditions, when the temperature around the sprinkler approaches its operating temperature, the cover plate detaches, releasing the deflector. Continued heating of the exposed sprinkler causes the fusible element to disengage releasing the sealing assembly. Water flowing through the sprinkler orifice strikes the deflector, forming a uniform spray pattern over a specific area of coverage determined by the water supply pressure at the sprinkler to extinguish or control the fire. INSPECTIONS, TESTS AND MAINTENANCE Refer to NFPA 25 for Inspection, Testing and Maintenance requirements. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Exaggerated for clarify Standard Spray; Upright, Pendent and Recessed Pendent MODELS/SIN. V2703 AND V2707 STANDARD RESPONSE MODELS/SIN. V2704 AND V2708 QUICK RESPONSE These Model V27 standard spray sprinklers are designed to produce a hemispherical spray pattern for standard commercial applications. They are available with either standard or quick response bulbs. The design incorporates state-of-the-art, heat responsive, frangible glass bulb design (standard or quick response) for prompt, precise operation. The die cast frame is more streamlined and attractive than traditional sand cast frames. It is cast with a hex-shaped wrench boss to allow easy tightening from many angles, reducing assembly effort. This sprinkler is available in various temperature ratings (see chart on page 2) and finishes to meet many design requirements. The recessed pendent should be utilized with a Model V27 recessed escutcheon which provides up to 34"/l9mm of adjustments. frI UPRIGHT (82703 AND 82704) PENDENT (82707 AND V2708) RECESSED PENDENT (V2707 AND V2708) SPRINKLER OPERATION The operating mechanism is a frangible glass bulb which contains a heat responsive liquid. During a fire, the ambient temperature rises causing the liquid in the bulb to expand. When the ambient tem- perature reaches the rated temperature of the sprinkler, the bulb shatters. As a result, the waterway is cleared of all sealing parts and water is discharged towards the deflector. The deflector is designed to distribute the water in a pattern that is most effective in controlling the fire. COVERAGE For coverage area and sprinkler placement, refer to NFPA 13 standards.
