Fire Protection, Inc. Mr JbVII I 1-7 0 I : .. I r / I - 1--- ixx 2 S S PW Eagle is one of the largest producers of PVC pipe in North America, and our products are available from distributors throughout the United States. PW Eagle produces PVC pipe for a variety of applications servicing the potable water, well casing, sewer, turf, agriculture, plumbing, communications and electrical markets. Our eleven manufacturing facilities in Oregon, Washington, California, Utah, Nebraska, Texas, Missouri and West Virginia assure on-time delivery. PW Eagle C905 high pressure water pipe combines superior materials with the latest manufacturing technology. PW Eagle products meet or exceed industry standards because of our rigorous quality-control program. PW Eagle supports the PVC pipe industry's efforts to maintain the highest design and manufacturing standards. We are members of the Uni-Bell PVC Pipe Association and American Water Works Association (AWWA). [Ci Corrosion Resistance 0900 is immune to nearly all types of internal and external corrosion. Since PVC is a non-conductor, it is not affected by electrolysis. Nor is it sus- ceptible to alkaline or acid soil condi- tions. A correctly installed PW Eagle system will provide long-term service at reduced operating costs. Water Quality Extractant water purity tests performed by independent test laboratories ensure that our pipe meets the requirements for water purity as specified by ANSI/NSF Standard 61. Superior Flow Characteristics An extremely smooth inner surface gives 0900 a Hazen-Williams how coefficient of 0=150. This means less burden on pumps and reduced pumping costs, because there's less friction between moving water and pipe walls. Exceptional Strength and Durability Every piece of 0900 is hydrostatically proof tested at four times its pressure class. A 2.5-to-1 safety factor is applied to the long-term pressure capacity of the pipe. The resulting value is further reduced by a surge pressure value, which also incorporates a 2.5-to-1 safety factor. Burst test pressure capability of 0900 Class 150 is at least 755 psi, with sustained pressure test capability of 500 psi. Throughout the country, in all conditions and climates, 0900 has served admirably in municipal water mains, fire lines, and sewage force mains. Joint Integrity PW Eagle's integral bell gasketed joint meets the same strength requirements of the 0900 pipe, as well as the demanding test criteria of ASTM 0 3139. The ability of PVC to bend without breaking allows the joint and pipe assembly to compensate for minor earth movement, which can cause problems in more rigid, non-PVC assemblies. Certification 0900 is periodically tested to maintain listings from Factory Mutual System* (FM) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL). 0900 also conforms to applicable requirements of the Uniform Plumbing Code TM. *Factory Mutual is not applicable to Class 100, DR 25 products. Pipe Meets AWWA 0900. Class 100 meets requirements of DR 25. Class 150 meets requirements of DR 18. Class 200 meets requirements of DR 14. Elastromeric Seal Integral bell pipe provided with factory-installed gaskets meeting requirements of ASTM F 477. Gasketed Joint Assembly Meets requirements of ASTM D 3139. Installation A'MNA C605 and PW Eagle's Installation Guide for PVC Water Pipe. Product 0900 is suitable for use as a pressure conduit. Expansion and contraction are accommodated by a properly assembled gasketed joint. Each bell section meets the same pressure capacity requirements as the pipe. Standard laying lengths are 20 feet (plus or minus 1 inch). Hydrostatic Proof Testing Each standard and random length of 0900 is tested to four times the pressure class of the pipe, for a minimum of five seconds. The integral bell is tested with the pipe. Falling Weight Impact Test C900 withstands an impact energy of 100 ft-lbs, per the requirements of UL 1285. Quick Burst Test Randomly selected 0900 samples are tested in accordance with ASTM D 1599 to withstand pressures listed below. Class 100 has a minimum burst pressure of 535 psi; Class 150, a minimum burst pressure of 755 psi; Class 200, a minimum burst pressure of 985 psi. Pipe Stiffness 0900 meets these minimum stiffness requirements: Pressure Class DR Pipe Stiffness (psi) 100 25 129 150 18 364 200 14 814 -i-i-- I. 1' ' - -OF ,1 14 JOINT INTEGRITY HYDROSTATIC PROOF TEST 5 Nominal Minimum Pipe Size Bending Radius (inches) (feet 4 100 6 145 8 190 10 235 12 275 Pipe Embedment All PVC pipe should be installed with bedding that provides uniform longitudinal support under the pipe. Use embedment material that is free of large stones, frozen matter, or other debris. Use proper compaction procedures to provide soil densities as specified by the design engineer. Service Connections Direct Tapping: Direct taps may be made in C900 Class 150 and Class 200 in nominal sizes 6 inch through 12 inch. Corporation stops should be in sizes !Y8, 3/4, or 1 inch. When sizes larger than 1 inch are required, tapping saddles or sleeves should be used. Saddle Tapping: Saddle taps may be made in any size or class of C900 pipe. Maximum outlet size recommended for saddle taps is 2 inches. For sizes larger than 2 inches, a tapping sleeve should be used. Tapping Sleeves: Tapping sleeves may be used on all sizes and classes of C900. Sleeves are available up to size-on-size. Caution: Saddles and sleeves should not: Distort the pipe when tightened Have lugs that dig into the pipe when the bolts are tightened Have a clamping arrangement not fully contoured to the outside diameter of the pipe For more information on tapping, see Uni-Bell's tapping video and publications Uni-B-8 and Uni-Pub-8. Note: These values should be used only for estimating purposes. Values for design should be determined by an engineer familiar with site soil conditions. rcrrgj Axial deflection at the pipe joints is not recommended, However, it is possible to curve C900 to allow for slight changes in direction. Bending to these minimum radii will not jeopardize C900's design capability. See PW Eagle's Technical Bulletin "Longitudinal Bending of PVC Pipe" for more details. Adequate thrust restraint is necessary for all gasketed joint systems. The "push on" features of our joints provide many installation advantages, but without adequate thrust restraint they can become "push off" problems. The large thrust forces present in water-distribution systems (see Table 1) require thrust restraints designed to handle test and peak operating pressures. Concrete Thrust Blocks If concrete thrust blocks are used, the size and type of thrust blocking must be based on the load-bearing capacity of the soil, pressure in the pipe, and diameter of the pipe. Table 2 provides conservative estimates of load-bearing values for various soil types. When soil conditions are not known, samples should be tested to determine soil properties. Mechanical Restraints If mechanical thrust restraint devices are used, they should be a type designed for use with PVC pipe. The devices should meet the test requirements of Uni-Bell's Specification Uni-13-13 'Joint Restraint Devices for Use with PVC Pipe." Design manuals and computer software are available from the restraint manufacturers. For typical thrust blocking and mechanical thrust restraint examples, see Figures 1 through 6. THRUST BLOCKS S FIGURE 1: Through line connection, tee FIGURE 2: Direction change, elbow FIGURE 3: Change line size, reducer MECHANICAL THRUST RESTRAINT DEVICES FIGURE 4: Through line connection, FIGURE 5: Direction change, elbow FIGURE 6: Direction change, tee cross used as tee used as elbow 7 Place sufficient back-fill before pipe filing and field testing. Under conditions requiring immediate back- filling of trenches, test after backfilling but prior to placement of permanent surface. Testing short lengths of pipe first will verify proper installation and joint assembly. If concrete thrust blocks are required, allow sufficient curing before testing. Separate tests for pressure and leakage may be performed. If separate tests are done, the pressure test should be done first. See Table 4. Procedure While the line is under pressure, check for leaks in all exposed pipe, fittings, valves, and hydrants. Repair or replace all defective elements. Repeat the test until all visible leaks stop and the allowable leakage requirements are met, per Table 5. For detailed pressure-testing requirements, consult your engineer or the PW Eagle installation guide. WARNING: Do not use PVC pipe for pressurized air systems. Injury or death may result due to the cata- strophic nature of pipe failure should failure occur. Rapid expansion of compressed air could propel shards of plastic throughout the area. WARNING: Expel all air from the pipeline during filling and again be- fore testing for pressure or leaks. Automatic air-release valves are rec- ommended. Compressed entrapped air can greatly amplify surges or pumping pressures. Also, com- pressed air might leak through a joint that will not leak water. The Series 7800 Check Valve assembly is lighter and faster to install, and costs less than flanged and wafer valve assemblies. In the full-open position the Series 7800 swing clapper is held tightly against the valve body, out of the flow stream, to provide maximum flow area and prevention of clapper flutter. The clapper design produces quick, non-slam closure before flow reversal can occur, while meeting FM requirements for an anti-water hammer valve rating. ILach valve is hydrostatically tested for leak tightness to 500 PSI The clapper-seat design permits leak free sealing of back pressures in service conditions ranging from 300 P51 (207 bar) to as low as 1 PSI (007 bar) (28" water head), MATERiAL SPECIFICATIONS BODY. Figure A) are designed to operate non-rising stem (inside screw) gate valves, which are used to control an underground water supply to automatic sprinkler, water spray deluge, foam-water deluge, or standpipe fire protection systems. They permit operation of underground valves while providing an above ground visual indication as to whether the valves are open or shut, in addition to a means for locking the valves in a particular position. Indicator posts provide for valve operation from outside of the protected property and, therefore, the opportunity for more prompt valve operation in an emergency situation. Model A-20806/A-20807 Indicator Posts feature a telescoping Stem that can be adjusted to its final position without field cutting of the Stem. The telescoping Stem also permits: easier setting of the "OPEN" and "SHUT" Target Plates (before the Post is extended to its final position); easier adjustment of the post length during the initial installation; and, ready re-adjustment of the post length, if there is a modification in the location of the final grade. W-120806 Indicator Posts will accommodate 4 through 14 inch size post indicator valves (PIV) requiring 14 to 43 turns to open and that are listed or approved for fire protection system service. The A-20807 Post will accommodate 16-24 inch size post indicator valves requiring 49 to 75 turns to open. Indicator Posts are provided "standard order" for use with left hand opening valves; however, they may be "special ordered" for use with right hand opening valves or converted in the field for use with a right hand opening valve by changing the left hand opening Post Head to a right hand opening Post Head. Indicator Posts accept direct attachment of a 1/2 inch NPT mounting electric supervisory switching device which can be used by proprietary and central stations to monitor the open position of the Indicator Post. Detailed information on the attachment of the Model PCVS-2 Supervisory Control Valve Switch (supplied by customer), which has two sets of SPDT Form C contacts, is given in the Technical Data section. APPROVALS AND STANDARDS Model A-208061A-20807 Indicator Posts are listed by W nderwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) and Underwriters aboratories Inc. for use in Canada (C-UL). Model A-20806 Indicator Posts are approved by Factory Mutual Research Corporation. The Belt attaches to a PlV mounting flange having four bolt holes spaced at 900 on a 10-1/2 inch diameter bolt circle. The Bell has 3/4 inch clearance holes for the mounting bolts. The A-20806 Indicator Post has a Threaded Sleeve which can readily accommodate field positioning of the 'OPEN" and "SHUT" Targets for 4 through 14 inch PlVs requiring 14 to 43 turns to open. The A-20807 has a Threaded Sleeve for 16 through 24 inch PlVs requiring 49 to 75 turns to open. The A-20806/A-20807 Indicator Post is available in six different "Order Lengths." Each "Order Length" provides for adjustment of dimension "D" in Figure B, as indicated in Table 3. The Post Head can be adjusted relative to the Lower Barrel by using the two Set Screws located at the base of the Upper Barrel. The Stem requires no field cutting within the indicated adjustment range of each 'Order Length." STables 4a and 4b indicate the nominal trench depths which can be accommodated by each "Order Length," for the 4 through 24 inch Mueller Resilient Wedge PlVs based on the typical diameter of underground pipe. For PlVs with different 'B' dimensions, the minimum and maximum trench depths which will be accommodated by each "Order Length" can be calculated from the relationships given in Figure B. "Standard order" Posts are factory set with the "OPEN" and "SHUT" Targets positioned for use with left hand (counter- clockwise) opening valves. An arrow on the Post Head indicates the left hand direction of opening. The position of the Targets may be reversed in the field, in order to accommodate a right hand opening valve, provided that the Post Head is changed to one indicating right hand opening. The Post Heads are ductile iron per ASTM B536 (Grade 64- 45-12) and the Bells are cast iron per ASTM Al 26 (Grade B). The Cap is polypropylene. The Windows are made from plexiglass. The Lower Barrel is PVC DR14 (UL Listed). The Upper Barrel, Upper Stem, Lower Stem, Coupling, Coupling Insert, and A-20807 Wrench are carbon steel. The A-20806 Wrench and Operating Nut for both posts are ductile iron per ASTM A536. The Targets for both posts are Nylon. The A-20806 Threaded Sleeve is Nylon; the A-20807 Threaded leeve is Aluminum. The Post Head, Upper Barrel, and Wrench are painted red. 2 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS MUELLER® A-20806/A-20807 ADJUSTABLE VERTICAL ONSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INDICATOR POST Dimension 'B' iiri Dimension 'C' - 1/2 of Pipe O.D. for Mueller Resilient Wedge Post Indicator Valves (Typical for underground pipe) Valve Size Dimensions in Inches Turns To Open B 4" 10.95 14 6" 14.91 20-1/2 8" 18.02 26-1/2 101, 21.62 33 12" 24.52 38-1/2 14" 29.13 43-1/2 16" 32.35 49 18" 38.35 57 20" 41.48 63 24" 47.94 75 [IJ IFtfl Nominal Trench Depths for Mueller A-20806 Resilient Wedge Post Indicator Valves Pipe Size Dimension 'C' in Inches 4 2.40 6" 3.45 8" 4.53 10" 5.55 12" 6.60 14" 7.65 16" 8.70 18" 9.75 20" 10.80 24" 12.90 ircI Dimension 'D' Adjustment Range "ORDER LENGTH" MIN MAX A 17.25' 39.25' B 36.00" 60.25" C 57.00" 81.25" D 78.00" 102.25" E 99.00" 123.25" F 120.00" 144.25" Valve "ORDER LENGTH" A "ORDER LENGTH' B 'ORDER LENGTH C "ORDER LENGTH" D "ORDER LENGTH" E "ORDER LENGTH" F Size Mm. Each set of contacts is rated as follows: 125/250 VAC ... 5.00 Amps 0 to 30 VCD... 2.50 Amps INSTALLATION Post Targets must be positioned for use with the appropriate number of turns to open the post indicator valve. Improper positioning of the Targets can result in an erroneous indication of the open or shut position of the valve. The A-20806 Indicator Post will accommodate positioning of the Targets to operate PlVs requiring 1410 43 turns to open; the A-20807 Indicator Post will accommodate positioning the Targets to operate PlVs requiring 49 to 75 turns to open. NOTE The Targets for the A-20806 Indicator Post have been factory the for use with a 6 inch Mueller PIV and the Targets for the A-20807 Indicator Post have been factory set for a 24 inch Mueller P/V. Consequently, Steps 6 through 10 need not be performed when installing the A-20806 Post with a 6 inch Mueller PIV (or with a PIV that requires 20-1/2 turns to open) or the A-20807 Post with a 24 inch Mueller PIV (or with a PIV that requires 75 turns to open). Proceed to install the Post as follows: Completely close the PIV. Place approximately 5 inch high blocks onto the stuffing box flange of the installed valve. Set the Indicator Post onto the blocks and generally centered over the PIV operating nut. Slide out the Shipping Disk (17), and allow the Coupling (5b) to drop down over the PIV operating nut. Attach the Coupling to the operating nut with the Cotter Pin (5d). Remove the blocks and lower the Indicator Post onto the PIV stuffing box flange. Bolt the Bell and stuffing box flange together using the four Cap Screws and Nuts (18, 19). Also at this time make certain that the three Cap .Screws (6) securing the Bell (4) to the Lower Barrel (3) are uniformly tightened. 4 OINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INDICATOR POST NOTES OPEN TARGET: TOP SURFACE OF [1 THREADED FLANGE ri If the pipe is sloped, it may be necessary to shim some of ALIGNED WITH the Cap Screws (18) with steel washers, so that the Post I MUELLER VALVE I I SIZE MARK I will be plumb and the Stem will run true with the center of (10 VALVE SHOWN) I I I TO I the Post Head.
